MRS Advances Call for Papers: Mechanically Coupled and Defect-Enabled Functionality in Atomically Thin Materials
MRS Advances Mechanical Behavior and Structural Materials
Issue date: Spring 2020
Submission deadline: December 18, 2019
MRS Advances is accepting full-paper submissions on Mechanical Behavior topics related to the symposium topic Mechanically Coupled and Defect-Enabled Functionality in Atomically Thin Materials from the 2019 MRS Fall Meeting. Submissions, the review process, and the final decision are not contingent on presentation at the meeting itself.
MRS Advances publishes short papers that provide a “snapshot” of an advance within the field of materials research. Such work may include important early indications from a research project that has not yet reached a conclusion, or related results that are significant but not central to the goal of the project. The scientific methods and logic should be rigorous, technically sound, and of interest to other specialists in the area of research.
Of particular interest are topics in Mechanically Coupled and Defect-Enabled Functionality in Atomically Thin Materials:
• Role of strain coupling and defects in modifying physico-chemical properties of 2D materials such as electronic band gap, carrier mobility, piezoelectric effects, magnetism, optical, thermal, thermoelectric, and catalytic/electrochemical (e.g. hydrogen evolution reaction)
• Computational and theoretical approaches to model/predict defect-enabled and strain-coupled behavior in 2D materials
• Advancements in the development of new computational methodologies, experimental techniques, and synthesis strategies for deterministic creation of defect- and strain-engineered 2D materials
• Device-level performance relationships including predictions or demonstration of nanoscale architectures & heterostructures whose behavior benefits from strain coupling or defect structures
Manuscript Submission:
To be considered for MRS Advances, new and previously unpublished results significant to the development of this field should be presented. The manuscripts must be submitted via the MRS Advances electronic submission system by December 18, 2019.
EARLY SUBMISSION OPPORTUNITY: Submissions received by October 1, 2019 and accepted for publication by November 18, 2019, will get limited-time free access to MRS member and non-members alike upon publication, and promotion onsite at the MRS meeting, to appropriate symposia and at the MRS-Cambridge University Press Publications booth.
All manuscripts will be reviewed in the standard rapid timeframe of MRS Advances to ensure timely publication in the issue related to the submission topic. Please see manuscript preparation instructions, length restrictions, and the required template for submission at www.mrs.org/mrs-advances-manuscript-instructions. At submission, indicate Mechanical Behavior as the topical area of your paper.
