^{page 13 note 1} Bailey adds the consideration that in Aen. viii. 416 the adjective Aeolia is ‘applied to Lipare as one of the Aeolian islands, but may well have been used also of the south-western coast of Italy, as it would be if the reading Lipare were adopted’. But the reading Lipare is clearly false.
