* Probably as the result of hasty oversight, there is a mistaken reading of one document. The signet letter (Plate 6, p. 113) is to rhe Lord Chancellor, Bishop George Nevill, ordering that a commission of oyer et terminer be directed to John Shipwarde, mayor of Bristol, concerning insurrections ‘ayenst owe honoure & estate the Comune wele of our Lande & oure lawes and peaixe.’ It is incorrectly identified as written to the mayor, who hardly qualified for the address of ‘Right Reverend fadre in god Right trusti and entierly biloved Cousin.’ Dr Robert W. Dunning first brought this to my attention.
