Structural Modifications of Rigid-Rod Polymers

Abstract

Research in our laboratory on lyotropic liquid crystalline polymers has provided a series of high modulus, high tenacity materials derived from benzobisazole rigid-rod polymers. A number of different structural modifications on these systems have been carried out in our laboratory. This paper will be focused on those structural variations made by maintaining the para-ordered geometry while modifying the structure with pendent groups.
