A compact 8-port eighth-mode substrate-integrated waveguide (EMSIW) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is presented in this paper. It consists of eight EMSIW cavities placed side by side sharing their open-ended edges which are separated by rectangular slots. High isolation (>22 dB) between the antenna elements over the entire operating band is obtained by the strategic placement of rectangular slots and vias. The open-ended region of EMSIW cavity resonator and the edges of the diagonal slots help in the excitation of TE110 mode at 5.5 GHz. The simulated bandwidth of MIMO antenna is 180 MHz, while the measured bandwidth is 220 MHz. The proposed MIMO antenna system has potential applications for sub-6 GHz communication systems.

This paper presents a methodology to design band-pass filters having ultrawide stopband characteristics using multilayer circular substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) cavities. The orthogonal microstrip feedlines are used as input and output ports that are present at the top and bottom layers, while the middle layers are used to couple the SIW cavities. Higher-order spurious modes of the circular SIW cavity are suppressed by using orthogonal feeding mechanism and properly adjusting the arc-shaped slots between the cavities. To validate the present approach, two filters (second- and fourth-order) have been designed and fabricated and their characteristics are measured. The second-order filter exhibits a stopband rejection below 25 dB up to nearly 5.07f0, while the fourth-order filter has a stopband characteristic of nearly 5.05f0 with 20 dB rejection. The filters allow only TM010 mode propagation and attenuate the higher-order spurious modes of the cavity.

This article presented a compact bandpass filter with wide-stopband performance. Two substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavities and a short-circuited coplanar line introduced between the two cavities are used to realize a compact third-order bandpass filter. The passband is generated by combining the resonant frequency of TE101 mode of the SIW cavities and the fundamental resonant frequency of the short-circuited coplanar line. The size of the proposed filter reduces significantly in comparison with conventional third-order SIW filters. Moreover, the center frequency (CF) and the bandwidth of the filter can be controlled by adjusting the structural parameters of the filter. In addition, the first higher-order mode TE102 of the SIW cavity is suppressed by minimizing the coupling of TE102 mode in order to obtain wide-stopband performance. The proposed filter is designed, fabricated, and measured, and the simulation and measurement results show a good agreement. The filter exhibits compact size, low loss, and a rejection higher than 20 dB up to 1.94f0.

The design of a circular-shaped differential wideband band pass filter (BPF) is described. The proposed filter is compact and provides good common mode (CM) suppression. It consists of four ports with a circular-shaped differential mode (DM). The analysis of the filter has been carried out by bisecting it into identical two-port networks along the symmetry plane, resulting in a band stop or band pass response under CM or DM excitations, respectively. The length and width of the stubs can be tuned to obtain the desired pass band and stop band of the differential BPF. The proposed design is fabricated and measured. The results obtained using measurements are in close agreement with those obtained using simulations.

This paper presents a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) mixed electric and magnetic coupling structure implemented on a single-layer substrate to create finite transmission zeros (TZs), which can be used to design microwave filters with higher frequency selectivity. Mixed coupling is realized by three slot-lines on the top metal plane combined with an iris-window between two adjacent SIW cavities. The electric and magnetic coupling can be separately controlled by adjusting the dimensions of the slot-lines and the width of the iris-window, and a controllable TZ below or above the passband can be produced. Furthermore, a detailed analysis of the mixed coupling structure is presented. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed structure, third- and fourth-order cross-coupled generalized Chebyshev bandpass filters are designed and fabricated using the standard printed circuit board process. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation results. The filters exhibit simple structure and good frequency selectivity.

In this paper, a novel two-stage fish spear-shaped multimode resonator (MMR)-based ultra wideband (UWB) bandpass filter (BPF) is presented. The fish spear-shaped MMR is loaded with stepped impedance resonator in order to improve the out-of-band performance of the proposed filter. The proposed UWB BPF filter has fractional bandwidth better than 110%. In order to validate the present design approach, the filter is fabricated on RT/Duroid 5880 having dielectric constant 2.2, thickness 0.787 mm and loss tangent of 0.0009. The measured passband bandwidth of the filter is from 3.3 to 11.85 GHz, with insertion loss of 1.5 dB and return loss better than 12 dB in the passband. The proposed filter has sharp selectivity and upper stopband with 20 dB attenuation from 12 to 24 GHz.

To maximize heterosis, it is important to understand the genetic diversity of germplasm and associate useful phenotypic traits such as fertility restoration for hybrid rice breeding. The objectives of the present study were to characterize genetic diversity within a set of rice germplasm groups using coefficient of parentage (COP) values and 58 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers for 124 genotypes having different attributes such as resistance/tolerance to various biotic and abiotic stresses. These lines were also used for identifying prospective restorers and maintainers for wild abortive-cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) line. The mean COP value for all the lines was 0.11, indicating that the genotypes do not share common ancestry. The SSR analysis generated a total of 268 alleles with an average of 4.62 alleles per locus. The mean polymorphism information content value was 0.53, indicating that the markers selected were highly polymorphic. Grouping based on COP analysis revealed three major clusters pertaining to the indica, tropical japonica and japonica lines. A similar grouping pattern with some variation was also observed for the SSR markers. Fertility restoration phenotype based on the test cross of the 124 genotypes with a CMS line helped identify 23 maintainers, 58 restorers and 43 genotypes as either partial maintainers or partial restorers. This study demonstrates that COP analysis along with molecular marker analysis might encourage better organization of germplasm diversity and its use in hybrid rice breeding. Potential restorers identified in the study can be used for breeding high-yielding stress-tolerant medium-duration rice hybrids, while maintainers would prove useful for developing new rice CMS lines.
