Childhood trauma can cause deficits in emotional regulation. However, few studies have investigated childhood trauma and emotional regulation skills in patients with mood disorders. We aimed to investigate how childhood trauma and Emotion Regulation Skills Questionnaire (ERSQ) scores are associated with mood disorders.

This study included 779 patients with mood disorders (major depressive disorder [MDD, n = 240], bipolar I disorder [BDI, n = 121], and bipolar II disorder [BDII, n = 418]). We used their Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form (CTQ) and ERSQ scores for the evaluation.

The between-group differences in CTQ and ERSQ scores were examined. The CTQ and ERSQ total scores were negatively correlated. Among the CTQ subscales, emotional neglect showed a significant correlation with the ERSQ total score, whereas acceptance and tolerance showed higher negative correlations with the CTQ than with the other ERSQ subscales. The negative relationship between emotional regulation and childhood trauma varied significantly depending on the group, with the BDI group showing a more prominent association than the other groups.

Based on various mood disorders, we observed associations between childhood trauma and emotional regulation skills. Consequently, our study offers notable insights for future research on the impact of childhood trauma on ERSQ.

Ohiocrinus byeongseoni n. sp. from the Middle Ordovician (Darriwilian) Jigunsan Formation of South Korea in the Sino-Korean (North China) block is the oldest species of Ohiocrinus of the Cincinnaticrinidae and the first record outside Laurentia. O. byeongseoni is characterized by a loosely clockwise-coiled anal sac, isotomous branching throughout arms, long, slender xenomorphic column, and small lichenocrinid-type holdfast. The new species occurs in association with a deep-water siliciclastic environment, unlike the Laurentian species with a shallow-water carbonate environment. The monospecific crinoid assemblage is interpreted as parautochthonous, considering that the crinoids were reworked by relatively weak down-current probably caused by storm but preserved within the environment where they lived. The occurrence of O. byeongseoni presents a considerable spatiotemporal gap and ecologic disparity in evolution of Ohiocrinus and the Cincinnaticrinidae.

Disease-related malnutrition is prevalent among older adults; therefore, identifying the modifiable risk factors in the diet is essential for the prevention and management of disease-related malnutrition. The present study examined the cross-sectional association between dietary patterns and malnutrition in Chinese community-dwelling older adults aged ≥65 years in Hong Kong. Dietary patterns, including Diet Quality Index International (DQI-I), Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH), the Mediterranean Diet Score, ‘vegetable–fruit’ pattern, ‘snack–drink–milk product’ pattern and ‘meat–fish’ pattern, were estimated and generated from a validated food frequency questionnaire. Malnutrition was classified according to the modified Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria based on two phenotypic components (low body mass index and reduced muscle mass) and one aetiologic component (inflammation/disease burden). The association between the tertile or level of adherence of each dietary pattern and modified GLIM criteria was analysed using adjusted binary logistic regression models. Data of 3694 participants were available (49 % men). Malnutrition was present in 397 participants (10⋅7 %). In men, a higher DQI-I score, a higher ‘vegetable–fruit’ pattern score and a lower ‘meat–fish’ pattern score were associated with a lower risk of malnutrition. In women, higher adherence to the DASH diet was associated with a lower risk of malnutrition. After the Bonferroni correction, the association remained statistically significant only in men for the DQI-I score. To conclude, a higher DQI-I score was associated with a lower risk of malnutrition in Chinese older men. Nutritional strategies for the prevention and management of malnutrition could potentially be targeted on dietary quality.

Recent studies suggest that ketamine produces antidepressant actions via stimulation of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), leading to increased levels of synaptic proteins in the prefrontal cortex. Thus, mTOR activation may be related to antidepressant action. However, the mTOR signalling underlying antidepressant drug action has not been well investigated. The aim of the present study was to determine whether alterations in mTOR signalling were observed following treatment with antidepressant drugs, using ketamine as a positive control. Using Western blotting, we measured changes in the mTOR-mediated proteins and synaptic proteins in rat hippocampal cultures. Dendritic outgrowth was determined by neurite assay. Our findings demonstrated that escitalopram, paroxetine and tranylcypromine significantly increased levels of phospho-mTOR and its down-stream regulators (phospho-4E-BP-1 and phospho-p70S6K); fluoxetine, sertraline and imipramine had no effect. All drugs tested increased up-stream regulators (phospho-Akt and phospho-ERK) levels. Increased phospho-mTOR induced by escitalopram, paroxetine or tranylcypromine was significantly blocked in the presence of specific PI3K, MEK or mTOR inhibitors, respectively. All drugs tested also increased hippocampal dendritic outgrowth and synaptic proteins levels. The mTOR inhibitor, rapamycin, significantly blocked these effects on escitalopram, paroxetine and tranylcypromine whereas fluoxetine, sertraline and imipramine effects were not affected. The effects of escitalopram, paroxetine and tranylcypromine paralleled those of ketamine. This study presents novel in vitro evidence indicating that some antidepressant drugs promote dendritic outgrowth and increase synaptic protein levels through mTOR signalling; however, other antidepressant drugs seem to act via a different pathway. mTOR signalling may be a promising target for the development of new antidepressant drugs.

We investigated the pressure dependence of the inductive coupled plasma (ICP) oxidation on the electrical characteristics of the thin oxide films. Activation energies and electron temperatures with different pressures were estimated. To demonstrate the pressure effect on the plasma oxide quality, simple N type metal-oxide-semiconductor (NMOS) transistors were fabricated and investigated in a few electrical properties. At higher pressure than 200mTorr, plasma oxide has a slightly higher on-current and a lower interfacial trap density. The on-current gain seems to be related to the field mobility increase and the lower defective interface to the electron temperature during oxidation.

A novel route to organic-inorganic composites was described based on biomineralization of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-based hydrogels. The 3-dimensional hydrogels were synthesized by radical crosslinking polymerization of poly(ethylene glycol fumarate) (PEGF) in the presence of ethylene glycol methacrylate phosphate (EGMP) as an apatite-nuclating monomer, acrylamide (AAm) as a composition-modulating comonomer, and potassium persulfate (PPS) as a radical initiator. We used the urea-mediated solution precipitation technique for biomineralization of hydrogels. The apatite grown on the surface and interior of the hydrogel was similar to biological apatites in the composition and crystalline structure. Powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that the calcium phosphate crystalline platelets on hydrogels are preferentially aligned along the crystallographic c-axis direction. Inductively-coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) analysis showed that the Ca/P molar ratio of apatites grown on the hydrogel template was found to be 1.60, which is identical to that of natural bones. In vitro cell experiments showed that the cell adhesion/proliferation on the mineralized hydrogel was more pronounced than on the pure polymer hydrogel.

We synthesized bulk amorphous alloy systems of Cu43Zr43Al7X7 (X = Be, Ag; numbers indicate at.%), with the objective of simultaneously enhancing the glass-forming ability (GFA) and the plasticity. The alloys not only exhibit high plasticity (∼7%, ∼8%), but also possess enhanced GFA (alloys with 12 and 8 mm diameter). The possible mechanisms underlying this enhanced GFA and plasticity exhibited by these alloys are discussed based on the atomic-packing state and atomistic-scale compositional separation associated with the mixing enthalpy difference. A strategy for designing bulk amorphous alloys with simultaneous improvement in the GFA and the plasticity is proposed from the viewpoint of atomic-packing state and atomistic-scale phase separation.

We have fabricated a new magnetic field enhanced solid phase crystallization (FESPC) polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin film transistors (TFTs), which shows the excellent electrical characteristics and superior stability compared with hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) TFTs. The mobility (μ) and threshold voltage (VTH) of p-type TFTs of which the channel width and length are 5 μm and 7 μm, respectively are 31.98 cm2/Vs and -6.14 V, at VDS=-0.1 V. In the FESPC TFTs, the characteristics caused by grain boundary are remarkable due to large number of grain boundaries in the channel compared with poly-Si TFTs. The VTH of the TFT which have 5 μm channel length is smaller than that of 18 μm channel length by 1.36 V, which is considerably large value. It is due to the large number of grain boundaries in the channel and the high lateral electric field. The grain boundary potential barrier height is decreased, when the large lateral electric field is applied (which is called DIGBL effect). As a result of increased mobility, the drain current is increased, and VTH can be decreased. The activation energy (Ea) is strongly depended on the drain bias and the number of grain boundaries. is decreased, caused by the large drain bias and/or smaller number of grain boundaries. This decreased Ea can be reduced VTH due to increased the drain current. VTH of p-type poly-Si TFT employing FESPC on the glass substrate is affected by channel length and VDS due to energy barrier lowering effect at the grain boundary by increased lateral electrical field.

Micro- or nano-particles encapsulating hydrophobic quantum dots were prepared by the emulsion technique. Films containing quantum dots were also prepared by film casting methods. Quantum dots without hydrophilic coating were directly mixed with polymer solution to prepared extremely stable films or particles that do not phase-separate with time. The surface of the particles or films could be modified to have different hydrophilicity and/or functional groups. Particles with 1.5 ± 0.16 μm and 320 ± 26 nm in diameters and films of 300 μm in thickness were prepared. NIH 3T3 and EMT-6 were culture on the films containing quantum dots for 8 – 20 h. Compared to the control, quantum dot were delivered directly and efficiently into the cells without toxicity. When implanted near tumor cells in Balb/C mice, quantum dots migrated from the films into the tumor cells for at least 3 days. Considering that the quantum dot dispersion in aqueous media is relatively unstable and difficult to handle, our stable particles or films containing hydrophobic quantum dots can become versatile probes for biological applications.

A new self-aligned poly-Si TFT has been fabricated by employing a photoresist backside exposure technique. A pre-patterned aluminum (Al) layer on a-Si film not only induces the lateral grain growth (∼1.6 μm) in excimer laser crystallization but also implements the selfalignment of the gate region with the lateral grain region. Photoresist backside exposure through poly-Si film has been successfully performed because crystallized poly-Si has a fairly high UV transmittance. A self-aligned poly-Si TFT with a single grain boundary within the 2 μm channel was successfully fabricated and high on/off current ratio (∼107) was obtained.

A work cell with multiple robots increases manufacturing flexibility and productivity. Robots in the work cell equipped in a sparse area usually share a motion path, resources and workspace. In this paper, an embedded Markov chain model for a multi-robot system that has a common workspace is constructed on the basis of the concept of a multi-processor system. With the presented model, we measure the performance of error recovery schemes under different workloads and analyze the sensitivity of the execution time with respect to the robot speed. We verify the presented model with an experimental multi-robot work cell. This study is useful in evaluating the performance of a robotic work cell and presents a guide for designing a complex work cell.

Oxygen plasma treatment was performed on the excimer laser annealed poly-Si surface, followed by gate oxide deposition with low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) in order to control the threshold voltage of excimer laser annealed poly-Si thin film transistors (TFTs).

Threshold voltages of n-channel TFTs increase from 0.4 to 2.8 V by varying the treatment time from 0 to 7 min. It is shown the effective charge density increased toward negative direction with increase of the treatment time.

In addition to the increase of threshold voltage, the oxygen plasma treatment on the Si surface led to an increase in the deposition rate of LPCVD oxide films with an apparent reduction of carbon around the interface between gate insulator and poly-Si film after oxygen plasma treatment.

The hydrogenation effect was studied in the fabrication of amorphous silicon thin film transistor using APCVD technique. The inverse staggered type a-Si TFTs were fabricated with the deposited a-Si and SiO2 films by the atmospheric pressure (AP) CVD. The field effect mobility of the fabricated a-Si TFT is 0.79 cm2/Vs and threshold voltage is 5.4V after post hydrogenation. These results can be applied to make low cost a-Si TFT array using an in-line APCVD system.
