OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Partnering with the Housing Authority of Los Angeles, we launched a place-based initiative in the Nickerson Gardens housing development in South Los Angeles, where we apply our community engagement approach of listening and learning, and trust and relationship building, to deliver public health interventions in a discrete community. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Nickerson Gardens is the largest housing development in Los Angeles, with 1,066 units and over 3,000 residents. 58% and 40% of the residents are Hispanic and Black/African American respectively with an average yearly income of less than $30,000. To build trust and establish relationships, our team began attending community events, holding weekly educational workshops, and participating in the summer program for youth. We also held listening sessions in English and Spanish that asked aboutthe overall health of the Nickerson Gardens community, environment and public space, access and barriers to care, needed healthcare services, and the lived experience within Nickerson Gardens. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: To date, we have held eight 90-minute listening sessions in English and Spanish with 59 participants. The sessions provided insight into theneeded health and educational resources and services, the organizational structure of the housing development and how that impacts access to information and services, as well as the nuanced and area-specific transportation issues and the connection to safety concerns. These findings will inform the next phase of this initiative which includes convening a Coordinating Council composed of service providers and Nickerson Gardens residents. This council will oversee the coordination and implementation of needed services, help maintain accountability of the providers, and offer residents the opportunity to take ownership of the process. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: Academic-community partnerships are an effective strategy to deliver public health interventions and promote health equity in under-resourced communities. We tested and measured impact in a distinct community to reinforce a widely-applicable place-based model.
Effects of surface roughness on the propulsive performance of pitching foils

The hydrodynamic influence of surface texture on static surfaces ranges from large drag penalties (roughness) to potential performance benefits (shark-like skin). Although it is of wide-ranging research interest, the impact of roughness on flapping systems has received limited attention. In this work, we explore the effect of roughness on the unsteady performance of a harmonically pitching foil through experiments using foils with different surface roughness, at a fixed Strouhal number and within the Reynolds number ($Re$) range of $17\,000\unicode{x2013}33\,000$. The foils’ surface roughness is altered by changing the distribution of spherical-cap-shaped elements over the propulsor area. We find that the addition of surface roughness does not improve the performance compared with a smooth surface over the $Re$ range considered. The analysis of the flow fields shows near-identical wakes regardless of the foil's surface roughness. The performance reduction mainly occurs due to an increase in profile drag. However, we find that the drag penalty due to roughness is reduced from $76\,\%$ for a static foil to $16\,\%$ for a flapping foil at the same mean angle of attack, with the strongest decrease measured at the highest $Re$. Our findings highlight that the effect of roughness on dynamic systems is very different than that on static systems; thereby, it cannot be estimated by only using information obtained from static cases. This also indicates that the performance of unsteady, flapping systems is more robust to the changes in surface roughness.
Somatic multicomorbidity and disability in patients with psychiatric disorders in comparison to the general population: a quasi-epidemiological investigation in 54,826 subjects from 40 countries (COMET-G study)

Background
The prevalence of medical illnesses is high among patients with psychiatric disorders. The current study aimed to investigate multi-comorbidity in patients with psychiatric disorders in comparison to the general population. Secondary aims were to investigate factors associated with metabolic syndrome and treatment appropriateness of mental disorders.
MethodsThe sample included 54,826 subjects (64.73% females; 34.15% males; 1.11% nonbinary gender) from 40 countries (COMET-G study). The analysis was based on the registration of previous history that could serve as a fair approximation for the lifetime prevalence of various medical conditions.
ResultsAbout 24.5% reported a history of somatic and 26.14% of mental disorders. Mental disorders were by far the most prevalent group of medical conditions. Comorbidity of any somatic with any mental disorder was reported by 8.21%. One-third to almost two-thirds of somatic patients were also suffering from a mental disorder depending on the severity and multicomorbidity. Bipolar and psychotic patients and to a lesser extent depressives, manifested an earlier (15–20 years) manifestation of somatic multicomorbidity, severe disability, and probably earlier death. The overwhelming majority of patients with mental disorders were not receiving treatment or were being treated in a way that was not recommended. Antipsychotics and antidepressants were not related to the development of metabolic syndrome.
ConclusionsThe finding that one-third to almost two-thirds of somatic patients also suffered from a mental disorder strongly suggests that psychiatry is the field with the most trans-specialty and interdisciplinary value and application points to the importance of teaching psychiatry and mental health in medical schools and also to the need for more technocratically oriented training of psychiatric residents.
A viscous vortex model for predicting the drag reduction of riblet surfaces

This paper introduces a viscous vortex model for predicting the optimal drag reduction of riblet surfaces, eliminating the need for expensive direct numerical simulations (DNSs) or experiments. The footprint of a typical quasi-streamwise vortex, in terms of the spanwise and wall-normal velocities, is extracted from smooth-wall DNS flow fields in close proximity to the surface. The extracted velocities are then averaged and used as boundary conditions in a Stokes-flow problem, wherein riblets with various cross-sectional shapes are embedded. Here, the same smooth-wall-based boundary conditions can be used for riblets, as we observe from the DNSs that the quasi-streamwise vortices remain unmodified apart from an offset. In particular, the position of these vortices remain unpinned above small riblets. The present approach is compared with the protrusion-height model of Luchini et al. (J. Fluid Mech., vol. 228, 1991, pp. 87–109), which is also based on a Stokes calculation, but represents the vortex with only a uniform spanwise velocity boundary condition. The key novelty of the present model is the introduction of a wall-normal velocity component into the boundary condition, thus inducing transpiration at the riblet crests, which becomes relevant as the riblet size increases. Consequently, the present model allows for the drag-reduction prediction of riblets up to the optimal size. The present approach does not rely on the scale separation formally required by homogenisation techniques, which are only applicable for vanishingly small riblets.
Aflatoxin B1 Sorption and Safety of Dietary Sodium Bentonite in Sprague-Dawley Rats

Bentonites are readily available clays used in the livestock industry as feed additives to reduce aflatoxin (AF) exposure; their potential interaction with nutrients is the main concern limiting their use, however. The objective of the present study was to determine the safety of a dietary sodium-bentonite (Na-bentonite) supplement as a potential AF adsorbent, using juvenile Sprague Dawley (SD) rats as a research model. Animals were fed either a control diet or a diet containing Na-bentonite at 0.25% and 2% (w/w) inclusion rate. Growth, serum, and blood biochemical parameters, including selected serum vitamins (A and E) and elements such as calcium (Ca), potassium (K), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) were measured. The mineral characteristics and the aflatoxin B1 sorption capacity of Na-bentonite were also determined. By the end of the study, males gained more weight than females in control and Na-bentonite groups (p ≤ 0.0001); the interaction between treatment and sex was not significant (p = 0.6780), however. Some significant differences between the control group and bentonite treatments were observed in serum biochemistry and vitamin and minerals measurements; however, parameters fell within reference clinical values reported for SD rats and no evidence of dose-dependency was found. Serum Na and Na/K ratios were increased, while K levels were decreased in males and females from Na-bentonite groups. Serum Zn levels were decreased only in males from Na-bentonite treatments. Overall, results showed that inclusion of Na-bentonite at 0.25% and 2% did not cause any observable toxicity in a 3-month rodent study.
Preparation and Characterization of Magnetic Composites Based on a Natural Zeolite

A magnetic composite was prepared by wet-impregnating a powder of a natural zeolite with a magnetic Fe oxide-containing synthetic material. Both starting materials were first characterized with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy, and by isoelectric-point using vibrating-sample magnetometry. The synthetic Fe oxide-containing material was characterized as a mixture of magnetite (Fe3O4) and goethite (α-FeOOH). From the Fe Mössbauer analysis, the relative subspectral area for magnetite corresponds to 93(2)%; the remaining spectrum is assignable to goethite. After the impregnation process, magnetite was still identified in the composite material as a magnetic layer surrounding the zeolite particles; no magnetically ordered goethite could be detected. The Mössbauer pattern for this sample indicates a much more complex structure than for the precursor material, based on Fe oxides, with some more altered magnetite and an intense central doublet of (super)paramagnetic Fe3+, probably due to small Fe (hydr)oxides and/or to a residual contribution of Fe-bearing species from the starting zeolite material. The composite preparation procedure also promoted the change of the characteristic A-type zeolite to mordenite. The resulting magnetic composite presented a magnetic coercivity of as much as 0.140 A m−1, at 77 K. The final composite is now being evaluated as an adsorbent: results to date confirm that this novel magnetic material may have applications in the remediation of contaminated water bodies.
Nitrate removal by calcined hydrotalcite-type compounds

The sorption of nitrate ions on calcined hydrotalcite-type compounds at 550°C (HT550), 650°C (HT650), and 850°C (HT850) from pure water solution at 25°C has been studied. The influence of the temperature was also investigated for the sample calcined at 850°C by studying the sorption process at 10 and 40°C. The experimental sorption data points were fitted to the Langmuir equation in order to calculate the sorption capacities (Xm) of the samples; Xm values range from 61.7 g kg−1 (HT550 at 25°C) to 147.0 g kg−1 (HT850 at 40°C). The values for the removal efficiency (R) obtained ranged from 70.5% for HT550 at 25°C to 99.5% for HT850 at 40°C. The sorption experiments showed that the greater the calcination temperature (850°C), the more effective the removal of nitrate. The increase in the temperature from 10 to 40°C for sample HT850 also tends to increase the sorption of nitrate from 63.3 g kg−1 to 147 g kg−1 and the corresponding removal efficiency from 71.5 to 99.5%.

Objective:
The Cordoba Naming Test (CNT) is a 30-item confrontation naming test developed in Argentina. A common confrontation naming task used in the United States is the Boston Naming Test (BNT). Research shows that age affects BNT performance in the 60-item long form. In fact, studies show that scores on confrontation naming tasks increase in childhood and continue to improve until approximately 40 years of age. However, after this period, scores start to subsequently decline, and especially so after 70 years of age. On the other hand, some studies have reported that older adults maintain high BNT performance despite advancing age. To our knowledge, no study has investigated the aging effects of the CNT across various age groups. We expected CNT scores to increase significantly from young adulthood to mid-adulthood and then significantly decline with advancing age.
Participants and Methods:The present study sample consisted of 272 neurologically and psychologically healthy participants with a mean age of 27.06 (SD = 12.21) with 14.29 years of education completed (SD = 2.46). Participants were divided into six different age groups: 18-19-year-old group, 20-29-year-old group, 30-39-year-old group, 40-49-year-old group, 50-59-year-old group, and 60-69-year-old group. All participants consented to voluntary participation and completed the CNT and a comprehensive background questionnaire in English. The CNT consisted of 30 black and white line drawings, ranging from easy to hard difficulty. An ANCOVA, controlling for gender, was used to evaluate CNT performance between the six age groups. We used a threshold of p < .05 for statistical significance.
Results:Results revealed significant group differences between the six age groups on the CNT, p = .000, ηp2 = .14. A post-hoc test revealed that the 30-39-year-old group outperformed the 18-19-year-old, 20-29-yearold, and 60-69-year-old groups on the CNT. Finally, the 40-49-year-old group outperformed the 18-19-year-old and 60-69-year-old groups on the CNT.
Conclusions:As we predicted, participants demonstrated steady improvement in the CNT until the age of 40. However, we found that until the age of 60, CNT performance started to decline significantly. Our data suggests that CNT performance declines significantly at the age of 60 compared to previous research using the BNT. Research shows other demographic variables (e.g., gender, linguistic factors) influence BNT performance. Future investigations on the CNT using a healthy sample should use a multivariate statistical analysis method to help explain influencing factors across aging. This research can have the potential to improve public health to better support and understand individuals from diverse backgrounds.
32 Effects of Emotion Regulation and Emotional Lability/Negativity on Academic Achievement Among Youth With and Without ADHD

Objective:
Youth with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), characterized by symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity, often experience challenges with emotion regulation (ER) and/or emotional lability/negativity (ELN).1-3 Prior work has shown that difficulties with ER and ELN among young children contribute to lower academic achievement.4-6 To date, research examining associations between ADHD and academic achievement have primarily focused on the roles of inattentive symptoms and executive functioning.7-8 However, preliminary work among youth with ADHD suggests significant associations between disruptions in emotional functioning and poor academic outcomes.9-10 The current study will examine associations between ER, ELN, and specific subdomains of academic achievement (i.e., reading, spelling, math) among youth with and without ADHD.
Participants and Methods:Forty-six youth (52% male; Mage=9.52 years; 76.1% Hispanic/Latino; 21 with ADHD) and their parents were recruited as part of an ongoing study. Parents completed the Disruptive Behavior Disorders Rating Scale11 and Emotion Regulation Checklist12 about their child. Youth completed the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence-II13 and three subtests [Spelling (SP), Numerical Operations (NO), Word Reading (WR)] of the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test-III.14 Univariate analysis of variance assessed differences in emotional functioning and academic achievement among youth with and without ADHD. Correlation and regression analyses were conducted to examine the association between emotional factors and the three subtests of academic achievement.
Results:Youth with ADHD exhibited significantly higher ELN (M=30.7, SD=8.7) compared to their peers (M=23.2, SD=5.8), when controlling for child age, sex, and diagnoses of conduct disorder and/or oppositional defiant disorder [F(1,41)=8.96, p<.01, ŋp2=.18]. With respect to ER, youth with (M=24.8, SD=4.2) and without ADHD (M=25.8, SD=4.3) did not differ [F(1,41)=.51, p=.48]. Surprisingly, within this sample, ADHD diagnostic status was not significantly associated with performance on any of the academic achievement subtests [WR: F(1,41)=.29, p=.59; NO: F(1,41)=.91, p=.35; SP: F(1,41)=2.14, p=.15]. Among all youth, ER was significantly associated with WR (r=.31, p=.04) and SP (r=.35, p=.02), whereas ELN was associated with performance on NO (r=-.30, p=.04). When controlling for child age, sex, IQ, and ER within the full sample, higher ELN was associated with lower scores on the NO subtest (b=-.56, SE=.26, p=.04). The associations between higher ER and WR scores (b=1.12, SE=.51, p=.03), as well as higher ER and SP scores (b=1.47, SE=.56, p=.01), were significant when controlling for child age and sex, but not ELN and IQ (p=.73 and p=.64, respectively).
Conclusions:As expected, youth with ADHD had higher ELN, although they did not differ from their peers in terms of ER. Results identified distinct associations between ER and higher reading/spelling performance, as well as ELN and lower math performance across all youth. Thus, findings suggest that appropriate emotional coping skills may be most important for reading and spelling, while emotional reactivity appears most salient to math performance outcomes. In particular, ELN may be a beneficial target for intervention, especially with respect to improvement in math problem-solving skills. Future work should account for executive functioning skills, expand the academic achievement domains to include fluency and more complex academic skills, and assess longitudinal pathways within a larger sample.

Objective:
Evaluate measures used to operationalize apathy in relation to cognitive impairment among Hispanic/Latin Americans and synthesize associations of apathy with cognitive impairment.
Participants and Methods:A systematic review of the available literature following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines was conducted. This review covered studies on the relationship between apathy and cognitive impairment among Hispanic/Latin Americans across normal aging and neurocognitive disorders. The first stage of the review consisted of collecting all publications that contained (1) English or Spanish-speaking participants, (2) with measures for reported apathy, (3) assessment of cognitive functioning or diagnosis of neurocognitive disorder, (4) with Hispanic/Latin Americans represented in the sample. There was no limit regarding publication date. The required minimum of H/L participants in selected studies was determined based on a standard of representation in the United States general population, which is around 18.5%. In the second stage of the review, studies were screened excluding all studies that did not meet the criteria.
Results:Thirteen, 37, and 17 studies were identified by APA PsychInfo, EMBASE, and PubMed, respectively. After removing 19 duplicate records, 48 reports were then assessed for eligibility. Thirty-five of those reports were missing apathy and cognition associations, were under-reported in information such as conference abstracts, or were missing adequate representation of H/L participants. This resulted in a total of 13 papers included in this review. Of the eleven cross-sectional studies, nine demonstrated significant differences or associations between apathy and cognitive status, one demonstrated a descriptive difference between apathy and cognitive status (i.e., no hypothesis test conducted), while one demonstrated null effects. All effects suggested that as apathy increased, cognitive impairment increased. These cross-sectional studies spanned across Säo Paulo, Brazil, Los Angeles, California, West Texas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Southwestern United States. This included community and clinic samples of participants. Of the two longitudinal studies, they both demonstrated non-significant associations of apathy and cognitive status. One study in Mexico suggested a risk ratio over 1 where apathy was non-significantly associated with dementia risk, while the other study in Texas, United States had hazard ratios below 1 where apathy was non-significantly associated with mild cognitive impairment risk.
Conclusions:The Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI) apathy subscale was the most used measure for apathy in this review (81.8% of included studies). However, a recent systematic review on apathy measurement in older adults and people with dementia specifically stated that the apathy dimension commonly used in the NPI should not be employed outside of screening for apathy. This suggests potential bias and poor evidence in the current literature consisting of apathy research with H/Ls. Longitudinal studies evaluating the utility of examining apathy in relation to cognitive impairment with diverse ethnoracial groups, in addition to Hispanic/Latin Americans, are warranted. Assessing construct equivalence of apathy across demographic characteristics such as language, education, and informant characteristics should be conducted to elucidate potential biases in measurement.

Objective:
To examine relationships between history of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), neuropsychological measures of executive function, and lifetime history of criminal justice (CJ) involvement among combat-exposed Veterans and Service Members (V/SM).
Participants and Methods:Participants were combat-exposed V/SM who completed a baseline assessment for the multicenter Long-term Impact of Military-Relevant Brain Injury Consortium - Chronic Effects of Neurotrauma Consortium study (N=1,341) and had adequate engagement/symptom reporting on measures of performance and symptom validity (i.e., Medical Symptom Validity Test and Mild Brain Injury Atypical Symptoms Scale). Neuropsychological battery included the Trail Making Test (A and B), Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-IV (WAIS-IV) Digit Span subtest, and the National Institute of Health (NIH) Toolbox Flanker subtest. Lifetime history of brain injury, criminal justice involvement, and demographics were collected. Participants were 87% male, 72% white, with a mean age of 40 years (SD=9.67). Eighty-one percent had at least some college education. Nineteen percent were active duty. Eighty percent of Veterans and 86% of Service Members reported a history of >1 mTBI, and of these 31% and 47% respectively experienced 3+ mTBIs.
Results:Three groups were composed based on level of involvement with the CJ system: 1.) No history of arrests or incarcerations (3+ mTBIs: 64%), 2.) A lifetime history of arrest but no felony incarceration (3+ mTBIs: 34%), and 3.) A lifetime history of felony incarceration (3+ mTBIs: 2%). Ordinal regression analyses revealed that performance on a working memory task (Digit Span; b= 0.024, p= .041; OR= 1.024) was significantly associated with increased CJ involvement after adjusting for age, education, service status, and mTBIs. Performance on measures of processing speed (Trails A), set-shifting (Trails B), and inhibition (Flanker) were not significantly associated with CJ involvement. Number of mTBIs was significantly and positively associated with level of CJ involvement in all four models; Digit Span (p= .016), Trails A (p= .016), Trails B (p= .020), and Flanker (p= .008).
Conclusions:Performance on most measures of executive functioning was not significantly associated with CJ involvement in this large, representative sample of V/SM who served in combat. Although performance on a working memory task was significantly associated with CJ involvement, the size of the effect was small and the association was in the opposite direction as expected. Number of mTBIs was significantly associated with level of CJ involvement, indicating that sustaining multiple mTBI may be linked to greater risk of CJ involvement. These findings suggest that social and psychological factors beyond executive dysfunction may better explain the relationship between history mTBIs and CJ involvement. Some aspects of military service and veteran status, such as interdisciplinary treatment for brain injury and physical, mental, and psychosocial health needs, may be protective against previously identified risk factors for arrest (e.g., deficits in executive functioning). Contextualizing mTBI within the larger behavioral health profile of V/SM, with emphasis placed on intervention for related co-morbidities, may reduce the impact of previous arrest on wellbeing and/or reduce the risk of future CJ involvement.

Objective:
There is equivocal evidence that acculturation is associated with cognition. Various factors may contribute to ambiguous findings in the neuropsychology setting, including psychometric limitations of tools available for assessing acculturation as well as the frequent conflation of bilingualism with acculturation. Additionally, neuropsychological research on acculturation and cognition has largely failed to account for bidimensional models of acculturation, which have greater empirical support over unidimensional models. In response to these limitations and the theoretical literature on acculturation, we developed the Perceived Identity & Ethnicity Scales (PIES), a brief rating scale system to quickly (<2 minutes) capture an individual's perceived acculturative identity across several domains. In the current study, we sought to (1) provide initial psychometric support of the PIES and (2) examine how it relates to cognition in a culturally and linguistically diverse sample.
Participants and Methods:We recruited 242 individuals from both university and community samples (age=23.7±7.6, range 18-72; <12 Years of Education=4%; 78% Female; 58% Hispanic/Latin American; 69% middle SES; 22% educated outside the USA). In addition to demographic questionnaires, participants completed the PIES; an established measure of acculturation (the Bicultural Involvement Questionnaire, BIQ) and bilingualism (Bilingual Language Profile, BLP); measures of mood (the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scales, DASS; Apathy Evaluation Scale, AES); and of self-reported cognitive functioning (Everyday Cognition, ECog). A subsample of Spanish speakers (n=86) also completed a cognitive battery validated for use in this population (the Spanish English Neuropsychological Assessment Scales, SENAS). For the first aim, we examined the reliability, validity, and dimensionality of the PIES in the full sample. In the Spanish-speaking subsample, we examined the relationship between the tool and both subjective and objective cognition using linear regression controlling for age, education, sex/gender, and premorbid intellectual functioning.
Results:Measures of internal consistency and dimensionality supported a bidimensional model of acculturation; identification with culture of family origin (PIES-O) was not related to identification with US American culture (PIES-U; r=0.036, p>0.05). Cultural preference scores from the BIQ were associated with PIES-O (r=-0.322) and PIES-U (r=0.277; both ps<0.001) in the expected directions. PIES-O (r=0.350) and PIES-U (r=-0.432) were associated with the ability to speak a language other than English on the BLP (both ps<0.001). PIES-U, but not PIES-O, was also strongly associated with other BIQ and BLP scores as well as with receiving education outside of the USA at medium to large effect sizes (rs=0.3 to 0.6; all ps<0.001). In the subsample, PIES-O and PIES-U were not associated with subjective cognition as measured by the ECog (AR2=0.016, p>0.05); global cognition as measured by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA; AR2=0.046, p>0.05); or SENAS cognitive composite scores (AR2=0.016, p>0.05) after controlling for covariates.
Conclusions:Findings provide strong initial psychometric support for the utility of the PIES in the assessment of acculturation. Moreover, these results further support the bidimensional model of acculturation. Acculturation as measured by the PIES was not associated with cognitive abilities in this highly educated and mainly female cross-sectional sample. Longitudinal research accounting for acculturation is needed to elucidate these relationships.

Objective:
The Cordoba Naming Test (CNT) is a 30-item confrontation naming task. The administration of the CNT can be administered in multiple languages. Hardy and Wright (2018) conditionally validated a measure of perceived mental workload called the National Aeronautic Space Administration Task Load Index (NASA-TLX). They found that workload ratings on the NASA-TLX increased with increased demands on a cognitive task. Researchers found interactions in a study examining language proficiency and language (i.e., in which the test was administered) on several tasks of the Golden Stroop Test. Their results revealed that unbalanced bilinguals’ best-spoken language showed significantly better results compared to balanced bilinguals’ where language use did not matter. To our knowledge, no study has examined the order effects of Spanish-English bilingual speakers’ CNT performance and perceived workloads when completed in Spanish first compared to English second and vice-versa. We predicted that persons that completed the CNT in English first would demonstrate better performances and report lower perceived workloads on the CNT compared to completing the CNT in Spanish second. In addition, we predicted that persons that completed the CNT in Spanish first would demonstrate worse performance and higher perceived workloads on the CNT compared to completing the CNT in English second.
Participants and Methods:The sample consisted of 62 Spanish-English healthy and neurologically bilingual speakers with a mean age of 19.94 (SD= 3.36). Thirty-seven participants completed the CNT in English first and then in Spanish (English-to-Spanish) and 25 participants completed the CNT in Spanish first and then in English (Spanish-to-English). The NASA-TLX was used to evaluate CNT perceived workloads. All the participants completed the NASA-TLX in English and Spanish after completing the CNT in the language given, respectfully. A series of paired-samples T-Tests were completed to evaluate groups CNT performance and perceived workload.
Results:We found that the English-to-Spanish group performed better on the CNT in English first than completing it in Spanish second, p = .000. We also found that the English-to-Spanish group reported better performance and less mentally demanding on the CNT when it was completed in English first compared to completing it in Spanish second, p’s < .05. Regarding the Spanish-to-English group, we found participants performed worse when they completed the CNT in Spanish first compared to completing the CNT in English second, p = .000. Finally, the Spanish-to-English group reported worse performance completing the CNT in Spanish first, more temporal demanding, and more frustrating compared to completing the CNT in English second, p’s < .05.
Conclusions:As expected, when participants completed the CNT in English, regardless of the order, they performed better and reported lower perceived workloads compared to completing the CNT in Spanish. Our data suggests that language order effect influenced participants CNT performance possibly due to not knowing specific items in Spanish compared to in English. Future studies using larger sample sizes should evaluate language order effects on the CNT in Spanish-English balanced bilingual speakers compared to unbalanced bilingual speakers.

Aims
Depression and anxiety are the leading contributors to the global burden of disease among young people, accounting for over a third (34.8%) of years lived with disability. Yet there is limited evidence for interventions that prevent adolescent depression and anxiety in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where 90% of adolescents live. This article introduces the ‘Improving Adolescent mentaL health by reducing the Impact of poVErty (ALIVE)’ study, its conceptual framework, objectives, methods and expected outcomes. The aim of the ALIVE study is to develop and pilot-test an intervention that combines poverty reduction with strengthening self-regulation to prevent depression and anxiety among adolescents living in urban poverty in Colombia, Nepal and South Africa.
MethodsThis aim will be achieved by addressing four objectives: (1) develop a conceptual framework that identifies the causal mechanisms linking poverty, self-regulation and depression and anxiety; (2) develop a multi-component selective prevention intervention targeting self-regulation and poverty among adolescents at high risk of developing depression or anxiety; (3) adapt and validate instruments to measure incidence of depression and anxiety, mediators and implementation parameters of the prevention intervention; and (4) undertake a four-arm pilot cluster randomised controlled trial to assess the feasibility, acceptability and cost of the selective prevention intervention in the three study sites.
ResultsThe contributions of this study include the active engagement and participation of adolescents in the research process; a focus on the causal mechanisms of the intervention; building an evidence base for prevention interventions in LMICs; and the use of an interdisciplinary approach.
ConclusionsBy developing and evaluating an intervention that addresses multidimensional poverty and self-regulation, ALIVE can make contributions to evidence on the integration of mental health into broader development policy and practice.

Despite the considerable advances in the last years, the health information systems for health surveillance still need to overcome some critical issues so that epidemic detection can be performed in real time. For instance, despite the efforts of the Brazilian Ministry of Health (MoH) to make COVID-19 data available during the pandemic, delays due to data entry and data availability posed an additional threat to disease monitoring. Here, we propose a complementary approach by using electronic medical records (EMRs) data collected in real time to generate a system to enable insights from the local health surveillance system personnel. As a proof of concept, we assessed data from São Caetano do Sul City (SCS), São Paulo, Brazil. We used the “fever” term as a sentinel event. Regular expression techniques were applied to detect febrile diseases. Other specific terms such as “malaria,” “dengue,” “Zika,” or any infectious disease were included in the dictionary and mapped to “fever.” Additionally, after “tokenizing,” we assessed the frequencies of most mentioned terms when fever was also mentioned in the patient complaint. The findings allowed us to detect the overlapping outbreaks of both COVID-19 Omicron BA.1 subvariant and Influenza A virus, which were confirmed by our team by analyzing data from private laboratories and another COVID-19 public monitoring system. Timely information generated from EMRs will be a very important tool to the decision-making process as well as research in epidemiology. Quality and security on the data produced is of paramount importance to allow the use by health surveillance systems.
Human-induced mortality an overlooked threat for raptors in Nepal

Raptors play a unique role in ecosystem services and are regarded as effective indicators of ecosystem health. In recent years, varieties of anthropogenic factors have threatened the majority of raptor species worldwide. Nepal is considered a global hotspot for threatened and declining raptor species, but there is limited information on the direct human threats to the raptor populations living in the country. In this paper, we identify important anthropogenic threats to raptors in Nepal based on raptor mortality data collected by powerline surveys and from monitoring of GPS-tagged raptors, complete various reports, and social media. We found that powerlines, poisoning, and persecution, mainly shooting, are significant threats to raptors in Nepal that were largely overlooked previously. We report 54 electrocuted raptors affecting eight species, 310 poisoned raptors of 11 species, and five persecuted raptors of four species; among them vultures are the most affected (>88%). Based on our findings, to safeguard the future of Nepal’s raptors, we propose the retrofitting of power poles and the use of flight diverters on powerlines in the most affected areas to reduce raptor interactions with powerlines, as well as an effective conservation education programme to prevent the use of unintentional poisoning.

Objective:
The aim of this study was to identify and prioritize strategies for strengthening public health system resilience for pandemics, disasters, and other emergencies using a scorecard approach.
Methods:The United Nations Public Health System Resilience Scorecard (Scorecard) was applied across 5 workshops in Slovenia, Turkey, and the United States of America. The workshops focused on participants reviewing and discussing 23 questions/indicators. A Likert type scale was used for scoring with zero being the lowest and 5 the highest. The workshop scores were analyzed and discussed by participants to prioritize areas of need and develop resilience strategies. Data from all workshops were aggregated, analyzed, and interpreted to develop priorities representative of participating locations.
Results:Eight themes emerged representing the need for better integration of public health and disaster management systems. These include: assessing community disease burden; embedding long-term recovery groups in emergency systems; exploring mental health care needs; examining ecosystem risks; evaluating reserve funds; identifying what crisis communication strategies worked well; providing non-medical services; and reviewing resilience of existing facilities, alternate care sites, and institutions.
Conclusions:The Scorecard is an effective tool for establishing baseline resilience and prioritizing actions. The strategies identified reflect areas in most need for investment to improve public health system resilience.

Introduction:
Clinical trials provide the “gold standard” evidence for advancing the practice of medicine, even as they evolve to integrate real-world data sources. Modern clinical trials are increasingly incorporating real-world data sources – data not intended for research and often collected in free-living contexts. We refer to trials that incorporate real-world data sources as real-world trials. Such trials may have the potential to enhance the generalizability of findings, facilitate pragmatic study designs, and evaluate real-world effectiveness. However, key differences in the design, conduct, and implementation of real-world vs traditional trials have ramifications in data management that can threaten their desired rigor.
Methods:Three examples of real-world trials that leverage different types of data sources – wearables, medical devices, and electronic health records are described. Key insights applicable to all three trials in their relationship to Data and Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMBs) are derived.
Results:Insight and recommendations are given on four topic areas: A. Charge of the DSMB; B. Composition of the DSMB; C. Pre-launch Activities; and D. Post-launch Activities. We recommend stronger and additional focus on data integrity.
Conclusions:Clinical trials can benefit from incorporating real-world data sources, potentially increasing the generalizability of findings and overall trial scale and efficiency. The data, however, present a level of informatic complexity that relies heavily on a robust data science infrastructure. The nature of monitoring the data and safety must evolve to adapt to new trial scenarios to protect the rigor of clinical trials.

Summary
This chapter introduces Bayesian data analysis and shows how such an approach can better deal with the intricacies of Ln acquisition data. The data analyzed is simulated based on Rothman’s (2010) study to demonstrate how we can use Bayesian models to estimate variables of interest in R. The chapter discusses (1) how to tackle smaller sample sizes and (2) how to incorporate theoretical principles and assumptions into our statistical analysis. As will be shown, in addition to its general advantages, Bayesian data analysis provides an effective toolset to address both (1) and (2). It also offers a much more nuanced and comprehensive approach to meet the methodological needs in the field.

Introduction
Previous research has shown that neurocognitive deficits, especially deficits in executive functions, may persist during euthymia in in patients with bipolar disorder (BD) and that those are associated with an impairment of psychosocial functioning. The assessment of executive functions (EFs) is normally carried out using laboratory tests. Novel methodologies such as virtual reality (VR) allow the creation of immersive environments, to evaluate executive performance with greater potential for ecological validity than evaluations with standard tasks.
ObjectivesThe objectives of this project are to evaluate executive performance in euthymic patients with BD with a novel virtual reality task compared to standard computerized tasks, and to find predictors of functioning associated with cognitive performance.
MethodsThis is a cross sectional study in which 46 euthymic patients with BD treated at La Fe University and Polytechnic Hospital were assessed with a battery of standard computerized tasks (ST) (TMT/Stroop,/Go-No-Go/TOL/DOT) and with the Cooking Task virtual reality task. The Cooking Task presents 4 tasks of increasing difficulty in which you must cook food in a specific time. It records total time to complete the task, whether food is cooled or burned, the simultaneous use of two fires, the proper use of seasonings and the time to set the table.
Functioning was assessed with the Functioning Assessment Short Test (FAST) that evaluates the overall functioning of patients with a mental illness in 6 subscales.
Correlation analyses between cognitive performance variables and clinical variables were done. Multiple linear regression was performed with the FAST score as a dependent variable and cognitive performance variables and relevant clinical variables to executive functioning (months of euthymia, age, and number of total episodes) were included as independent variables.
ResultsA worse psychosocial functioning was significantly associated with a worse performance in standard tasks (TMTA, TMTB, STROOP, and TOL) and cooking task (total time spent on task 2, burning time and total time spent on task 3, and total time spent on task 4). In the regression analysis, the correct simultaneous use of the two fires was the best predictor of a better psychosocial functioning in BD patient. This implies the preserved ability of planning and performing dual tasks.
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that euthymic patients with BD present deficits in executive functions related with a worse psychosocial functioning. Among the tasks, the cooking task may have a greater sensitivity than standards task to predict real functioning. This in an opportunity to design virtual applications for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
