    Obstetrics and gynaecology claims account for 20% of the number of all clinical negligence claims notified to the NHS Litigation Authority (predecessor to NHS Resolution) and 49% of the total value of clinical negligence claims. Many clinicians in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology will be involved in the litigation process at some point in their career, whether as a defendant, as a witness or as an expert. The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the pre-litigation and litigation process.
