The malicious use of artificial intelligence is growing rapidly, creating major security threats for individuals and the healthcare sector. Individuals with mental illness may be especially vulnerable. Healthcare provider data are a prime target for cybercriminals. There is a need to improve cybersecurity to detect and prevent cyberattacks against individuals and the healthcare sector, including the use of artificial intelligence predictive tools.

With the recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), patients are increasingly exposed to misleading medical information. Generative AI models, including large language models such as ChatGPT, create and modify text, images, audio and video information based on training data. Commercial use of generative AI is expanding rapidly and the public will routinely receive messages created by generative AI. However, generative AI models may be unreliable, routinely make errors and widely spread misinformation. Misinformation created by generative AI about mental illness may include factual errors, nonsense, fabricated sources and dangerous advice. Psychiatrists need to recognise that patients may receive misinformation online, including about medicine and psychiatry.

We describe an algorithm that can fit the properties of the dwarf galaxy progenitor of a tidal stream, given the properties of that stream. We show that under ideal conditions (the Milky Way potential, the orbit of the dwarf galaxy progenitor, and the functional form of the dwarf galaxy progenitor are known exactly), the density and angular width of stars along the stream can be used to constrain the mass and radial profile of both the stellar and dark matter components of the progenitor dwarf galaxy that was ripped apart to create the stream. Our provisional fit for the parameters of the dwarf galaxy progenitor of the Orphan Stream indicates that it is less massive and has fewer stars than previous works have indicated.

Titanium-based ceramic supports designed for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells were synthesized, and catalytic activity was explored using electrochemical analysis. Synthesis of high surface area TiO2 and TiO supports was accomplished by rapidly heating a gel of polyethyleneimine-bound titanium in a tube furnace under a forming gas atmosphere. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed anatase phase formation for the TiO2 materials and crystallite sizes of less than 10 nm in both cases. Subsequent disposition of platinum through an incipient wetness approach leads to highly dispersed crystallites of platinum, less than 6 nm each, on the conductive supports. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)/energy dispersive x-ray analysis results showed a highly uniform Ti and Pt distribution on the surface of both materials. The supports without platinum are highly stable to acidic aqueous conditions and show no signs of oxygen reduction reactivity (ORR). However, once the 20 wt% platinum is added to the material, ORR activity comparable to XC-72-based materials is observed.

The electronic structure of delta plutonium (δ-Pu) and plutonium compounds is investigated using photoelectron spectroscopy (PES). Results for δ-Pu show a small component of the valence electronic structure which might reasonably be associated with a 5f6 configuration. PES results for PuTe are used as an indication for the 5f6 configuration due to the presence of atomic multiplet structure. Temperature dependent PES data on δ-Pu indicate a narrow peak centered 20 meV below the Fermi energy and 100 meV wide. The first PES data for PuCoIn5 indicate a 5f electronic structure more localized than the 5fs in the closely related PuCoGa5. There is support from the PES data for a description of Pu materials with an electronic configuration of 5f5 with some admixture of 5f6 as well as a localized/delocalized 5f5 description.

The anisotropy of antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations has been investigated microscopically in the heavy fermion systems of CeMIn5 and PuMGa5 (M=Co, Rh) by means of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Both systems are known to be relatively high-Tc superconductors among the heavy fermion systems, especially PuCoGa5, which has a Tc=18.5 K almost one order of magnitude larger than for CeCoIn5 ( Tc=2.3 K). Analysis of the Knight shift and spin-lattice relaxation rates suggests XY-type anisotropy in the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in the normal states of these unconventional superconductors. Moreover, the 115 superconductors with larger XY-type fluctuations have a higher Tc, compared to the anisotropy of spin fluctuations in the related paramagnetic system UFeGa5 and antiferromagnets UPtGa5, NpCoGa5, NpFeGa5.

We examine the electronic structure of δ-Pu, PuCoGa5, and PuO2 using high resolution as well as angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. The fermiology of the strongly correlated metals δ-Pu and PuCoGa5 is investigated by determining the primary quasiparticle peak position with respect to the Fermi energy as well as the crystal momentum dependence of this peak for PuCoGa5. For the Mott insulator PuO2, the photoemission results are compared against the hybrid functional calculations and the prediction of significant covalency, is found to be reasonable.

We have achieved what we believe to be the first atomic resolution STM images for a uranium compound taken at room temperature. The a, b, and c lattice parameters in the images confirm that the USb2 crystals cleave on the (001) basal plane as expected. The a and b dimensions were equal, with the atoms arranged in a cubic pattern. Our calculations indicate a symmetric cut between Sb planes to be the most favorable cleavage plane and U atoms to be responsible for most of the DOS measured by STM. Some strange features observed in the STM will be discussed in conjunction with ab initio calculations.

The electronic structure of the Pu-based superconductor PuCoGa5 and the Pauli paramagnet UCoGa5 is investigated using photoemission spectroscopy. The photoemission data of PuCoGa5 reveal features at the Fermi energy EF and about 1-1.5 eV below EF indicative of itinerant and localized f-electrons, respectively. Angle-resolved spectra of UCoGa5 show two peaks at similar energies that are highly dispersive, providing evidence for itinerant character of the f-electrons in this material. A comparison of the PuCoGa5 and UCoGa5 data to the spectra of α-Pu and δ-Pu serves to place PuCoGa5 within the context of the more general electronic structure problem in elemental Pu.

We investigate nanostructures that are formed when dendrimers act as hosts. Poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers can be used as templates for inorganic nanocrystals, both in aqueous solution1-3 and in a polymeric matrix4. SANS, SAXS and TEM are used to characterize the resulting hybrid structures. Different inorganic colloids like noble metal and cadmium sulfide colloids are studied1,2. With increasing dendrimer generation, we observe a transition from low molecular colloid stabilizing to an effective polymer templating in terms of a “host-guest nanoscale synthesis”. For these higher generation dendrimers, inorganic colloids are formed inside single dendrimer molecules and the size of the nanocrystal can precisely be controlled by the dendrimer generation (“fixed loading law”). Hydrophobically modified dendrimers in organic solvent represent a further, different kind of host system that we have investigated using scattering methods5.

Poly (amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers are used to create organic-inorganic hybrid colloids in aqueous solution. The formation of gold colloids upon reduction of a gold salt precursor serves as a model reaction to study the influence of reaction conditions and dendrimer generation on the resulting nanostructures. The hybrid particles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), small angle neutron scattering (SANS), and small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS). A transition is found from “colloid stabilization” by low molecular mass molecules to “polymer nanotemplating” with increasing dendrimer generation, i.e, increasing molecular mass but retaining the chemical nature of the stabilizing species.
