In order to improve the regional applicability of existing evaporative misting systems, a new evaporative misting system based on photovoltaic/thermal and ventilation heat exchange is proposed for sow farms. Compared to traditional systems, the proposed system can help to improve their regional applicability and reduce their energy consumption. Meanwhile, its simulation model is constructed and the reliability is verified for its core equipment. The maximum error is less than 14.5% for the above models. Through simulation, the optimal regulation variable ranges in the proposed system are determined for mass flow rate of working fluid (MFWF) and misting power by analysing its operating characteristics. The results show that its optimal ranges of MFWF and misting power are 7245–9245 kg/h and 40–45 kW, respectively. The annual performance is further quantified and analysed under different load ratios for the proposed system in Guangzhou. It can be found that the annual exergy loss, heat exchange coefficient and solar energy benefits of the proposed system in Guangzhou are negatively correlated with load ratio, but its annual energy consumption and energy efficiency ratio are positively correlated. Meanwhile, the system performance and benefits are not significantly improved by increasing device investment and sow density when load ratio exceeds 120% in sow farms. The above conclusion can contribute to improving the existing evaporative misting systems in sow farms and guiding the operating regulation of the proposed system.

We designed a resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) sol–gel ink for direct ink writing of the microlattices. To improve the formability, the fresh microlattices were strengthened by surface catalysis with HCl atmosphere. After supercritical drying and carbonization, the sample’s specific surface area was 631 m2/g and the average pore size was 3.81 nm. Both RF aerogel and carbonized RF aerogel samples had millimeter-scale pore, micron-scale pore, and nanoscale skeleton. The pore and skeleton could provide high surface area and diffusion channels, which were beneficial to the adsorption performances. The carbonized RF aerogel sample fully adsorbed Dulbecco’s modified eagle medium in 250 min, which exhibited a good capacity of quick adsorption and indicated the potential application for cell supports.

To evaluate whether the photocatalysis efficiency of titanium oxide (TiO2) increases under the shading of carbon aerogel (CA), super black CA/TiO2 composite sheets were directly fabricated by physical mixing of CA, TiO2 powder, and binder. It was found that the photocatalysis efficiency of composite sheets were higher than that of pure TiO2 sheet. We attribute this phenomenon to the hot electrons coupling between CA and TiO2. Besides the direct light absorption of TiO2, the hot electrons generating and indirect energy transfer from CA to TiO2 may enhance the photocatalysis efficiency of TiO2.

Super-black carbon aerogel sleeves (CAS) with different reflectivities and a clear aperture had been made, by the sol–gel polycondensation of resorcinol (R) and formaldehyde (F) under the catalysis of sodium carbonate (C), and was used to eliminate stray light. We explained that the subwavelength structure is the main factor that leads to the low reflectivity of CA and constructed a simple optical system to measure the exit power from CAS in different directions. We proved that different CASs have different matting effects, and all of these CASs have better matting effects than that of monolithic graphite that has higher reflectivity. To show the fine angular resolution ability of CAS, we measured the faculae from the reflected light of a compact disc and found that the CAS with a clear aperture of 1.0 mm is the best. The super-black CAS could be used in precision optical instruments and to eliminate stray light in the optical.

A detailed magnetostratigraphic investigation, coupled with rock-magnetic studies, was carried out on a lacustrine sequence in the eastern Nihewan Basin, Northern China, which contains the Donggutuo and Maliang Paleolithic sites. Magnetite and hematite were identified as the main carriers for the characteristic remanent magnetizations. Magnetostratigraphic results show that the lacustrine sequence recorded the late Matuyama and Brunhes chrons. Furthermore, the Maliang artifact layer occurs just below the Brunhes/Matuyama boundary, and the Donggutuo artifact layer is just below the Jaramillo onset. Therefore, the age of the Maliang and Donggutuo artifact layers can be definitely estimated to be about 0.78 myr and 1.1 myr, respectively. These two paleomagnetic ages, coupled with previously obtained paleomagnetic data of the Majuangou, Xiaochangliang, Banshan, Lantian, and Xihoudu Paleolithic sites, suggest an expansion and lengthy flourishing of human groups from northern to north-central China during the entire Early Pleistocene.

Since the pioneer work by Bender and Boettcher on non-Hermitian Hamiltonian under paritytime (PT) symmetry [Phys. Rev. Lett. 80, 5243 (1998)], PT-symmetry optical coupled systems have been investigated extensively. Here we propose theoretically perfect transparency of a PT-symmetric acoustic coupled system which is comprised of a waveguide channel and two same-sized side-coupled resonators. Specifically, we demonstrate that with the change in the amplitude of attenuation and amplification coefficient, the spatial symmetry of two resonators is spontaneously broken which triggers an acoustic analog of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) by assigning anti-phase to the pressure field inside the two resonators.
