This study reports on the feasibility of using the Test of Complex Syntax- Electronic (TECS-E), as a self-directed app, to measure sentence comprehension in children aged 4 to 5 ½ years old; how testing apps might be adapted for effective independent use; and agreement levels between face-to-face supported computerized and independent computerized testing with this cohort. A pilot phase was completed with 4 to 4;06-year-old children, to determine the appropriate functional app features required to facilitate independent test completion. Following the integration of identified features, children completed the app independently or with adult support (4–4;05 (n = 22) 4;06–4;11 months (n = 55) and 5 to 5;05 (n = 113)) and test re-test reliability was examined. Independent test completion posed problems for children under 5 years but for those over 5, TECS-E is a reliable method to assess children’s understanding of complex sentences, when used independently.

The coral reefs of the Pitcairn Islands are in one of the most remote areas of the Pacific Ocean, and yet they are exposed to the impacts of anthropogenic climate change. The Pitcairn Islands Marine Protected Area was designated in 2016 and is one of the largest in the world, but the marine environment around these highly isolated islands remains poorly documented. Evidence collated here indicates that while the Pitcairn Islands' reefs have thus far been relatively sheltered from the effect of warming sea temperatures, there is substantial risk of future coral decalcification due to ocean acidification. The projected acceleration in the rate of sea level rise, and the reefs' exposure to risks from distant ocean swells and cold-water intrusions, add further uncertainty as to whether these islands and their reefs will continue to adapt and persist into the future. Coordinated action within the context of the Pitcairn Islands Marine Protected Area can help enhance the resilience of the reefs in the Pitcairn Islands. Options include management of other human pressures, control of invasive species and active reef interventions. More research, however, is needed in order to better assess what are the most appropriate and feasible options to protect these reefs.

Since 1975 Richard had been based in Australia, where he taught at the Sydney Conservatorium, but he was born in England, in Chichester, and studied at Hull University. In the late 60s and early 70s he was active as a contemporary music pianist and in the mid-70s became part of the Cologne music scene, working as Stockhausen's Teaching Assistant at the Cologne Staatliche Musikhochschule from 1973 until his move to Australia. But his most significant contribution to new music was as a writer. His 1999 book on the life and work of Ligeti is a superb introduction to the composer's work, and in 2005 it was followed by his book of lectures on Stockhausen, Six Lectures from the Stockhausen Courses Kürten 2002; he also co-edited the collected writings of Ferneyhough with James Boros.

Background: The evidence base for behavioural activation (BA) is mainly grounded in the individual delivery method, with much less known about the impact of group delivery. Aims: To conduct a pilot study of behavioural activation in groups (BAG) for depression delivered in a routine service setting, in order to explore acceptability, effectiveness and predictors of outcome. Methods: The manualized group treatment format was delivered in a Primary Care mental health setting, at step three of an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service. BAG was facilitated by cognitive behavioural psychotherapists, and outcome measures (depression, anxiety and functional impairment) were taken at each session. Seventy-three participants were referred and treated within nine groups. Results: BAG was an acceptable treatment generating a low drop-out rate (7%). Significant pre–post differences were found across all measures. There was a moderate to large depression effect size (d+ = 0.74), and 20% met the criteria for a reliable recovery in depression. Greater severity of initial depression and attendance of at least four BAG sessions predicted better outcomes. Conclusions: BAG appears to be an effective depression treatment option that shows some clinical promise. Further larger and more controlled studies are nevertheless required.

In this paper, fabrication of nanocomposite thin films with introduction of fullerene (C60) molecules in PolyMethyl MethAcrylate resist (PMMA) was investigated from a material and electrical point of view. The effective inclusion of C60 molecules in the samples was characterized by using UV-vis and Tof-SIMS instruments. The modified resist PMMA:C60 was also studied with Thermal analysis (TGA, DSC) where modification of physical properties is reported. Films were included in MIS and MIM devices and results on non volatile trapping of C60 doped PMMA are presented. Moreover, e-beam exposure tests showed that PMMA:C60 active layers for memory devices, were scalable in size.

Objective: To determine the effect on clinical response to clozapine of increasing the plasma levels of clozapine and its major metabolite N-desmethylclozapine in 19 patients with schizophrenia who had plasma clozapine levels ≤ 370ng/ml, a level previously determined to identify patients who were unlikely to have an adequate response to clozapine.

Method: The dosage of clozapine was increased by 20% in 11 patients and left unaltered in the other eight patients. Clozapine and N-desmethylclozapine plasma levels were measured after six weeks at the higher dose.

Results: Nine of the 11 patients in whom clozapine dosage was increased subsequently achieved plasma clozapine levels ≥ 370ng/ml. However, in this group of patients who already had partially responded to clozapine, increasing the dosage of clozapine did not produce additional clinical improvement.

Conclusion: Clozapine plasma levels are useful in clinical practice to guide dosage strategies. However, these results suggest that increasing the dosage of clozapine to achieve plasma levels ≥ 370ng/ml is unlikely to produce further improvement in patients who have already achieved a partial response to clozapine at plasma levels ≤ 370ng/ml.

According to the 1995 Northern Territory Department of Education Directory, the numberof schools within the Territory which cater for Aboriginal students are as follows:

• 40 preschools in predominantly Aboriginal communities

• 67 primary schools of predominantly Aboriginal communities

• 53 outstations and Homeland Learning Centres in predominantly Aboriginal communities

• 33 Community Education Centres and other post-primary schools in predominantly Aboriginal communities.

The interviews and discussions which are the main focus of this paper were conducted with five experienced teachers involved with Aboriginal education in remote rural schools in the Northern Territory – the minimum experience being five continuous years and the most being 15 years. Although the teachers have had greater experience working in the southern regions of the Northern Territory, many have experience in the Top End, interstate or overseas experience in indigenous and special education. As all ofthe teachers are stationed in the Northern Territory and all are currently teaching or supporting teachers in remote Aboriginal schools, the discussions regarding Aboriginal teacher training specifically concerned courses offered by Batchelor College and predominantly by the Remote Access Teacher Education Course (RATE).

Both passive and active electronic applications of CVD diamond have been proposed since the earliest stages of its development, largely based on an extrapolation of the superlative properties of single crystal diamond. Consequently, CVD diamond research has striven hard to match up to this expectation and significant advances have been made.

CVD diamond compares favourably with natural or high pressure synthetic single crystal material for passive electronic applications. The development of CVD diamond deposition technology for thermal management has led producers to address issues such as production cost, yield and quality. CVD polycrystalline diamond is becoming a commodity material and commercial applications in thermal management are emerging. Many of these developments are expected to feed into active electronic applications and will act as a springboard for diamond into commercial technology.

The active electronic applications for diamond are more demanding in terms of materials and process technologies. For example, doping, structure delineation and contact schemes have been widely demonstrated and prototype devices are showing potential benefits in sensors, detectors, photonics and cold cathodes. The current and future status of diamond electronics is reviewed.

Studies of the shapes of X-ray diffraction peaks from synthetic polymers are still rather uncommon. One probable cause of this situation is the small peak-to-background ratio in most polymer diffraction experiments; it is difficult to achieve precise line profiles for quantitative analysis. Increased utilization of automated data collection/analysis systems and more intense X-ray sources should alleviate this restriction. We suspect, furthermore, that confusion about nomenclature has impeded the acceptance of lineshape analysis for polymers. The peak broadening mechanisms which are generally considered are finite coherence length or crystal size, lattice parameter fluctuation, and displacement disorder of the second kind. Both latter mechanisms have, unfortunately, been referred to as “strains” or “microstrains”. Metallurgists have traditionally expressed displacement disorder as a (length dependent) “microstrain”, and this convention has been adopted in some studies of polymer diffraction. Other work on polymers, however, has termed lattice parameter fluctuation as “microstrain“. The inconsistent use of this term can imply a nonexistent relation between two distinct phenomena.
