Since August 2014, a monitoring survey at a frequency of 111 MHz has been conducted on the Large Phased Array (LPA) radio telescope of the P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute (LPI). We report the discovery of a bright pulse having a dispersion measure (DM) equal to 134.4 ± 2 pc cm–3, a peak flux density (Sp) equal to 20 ± 4 Jy and a half-width (We) equal to 211 ± 6 ms. The excessive DM of the pulse, after taking into account the MilkyWay contribution, is 114 pc cm–3 that indicates its extragalactic origin. Such value of DM corresponds to the luminosity distance 713 Mpc. The above parameters make the pulse to be a reliable candidate to the fast radio burst (FRB) event, and then it is the second FRB detected at such a large λ ∼ 2.7 m wavelength and the first one among non-repeating FRBs. The normalized luminosity Lν of the event, which we have designated as FRB 20190203, estimated under assumption that the whole excessive DM is determined by the intergalactic environment toward the host galaxy, is equal to ≃ 1034 erg s–1Hz–1. In addition to the study of radio data we analyzed data from the quasi-simultaneous observations of the sky in the high energy (≥ 80 keV) band by the omnidirectional detector SPI/ACS aboard the INTEGRAL orbital observatory (in order to look for a possible gamma-ray counterpart of FRB 20190203). We did not detect any transient events exceeding the background at a statistically significant level. In the INTEGRAL archive, the FRB 20190203 localization region has been observed many times with with a total exposure of ∼ 73.2 days. We have analyzed the data but were unable to find any reliable short gamma-ray bursts from the FRB 20190203 position. Finally we note that the observed properties of FRB 20190203 can be reproduced well in the framework of a maser synchrotron model operating in the far reverse shock (at a distance of ∼ 1015 cm) of a magnetar. However, triggering the burst requires a high conversion efficiency (at the level of 1%) of the shock wave energy into the radio emission.

Hydroxylbastnäsite-(La), the OH- and La-dominant member of the bastnäsite group, in fact known for many years, was studied in detail and has been approved by the IMA–CNMNC as a new mineral species with the ideal, end-member formula La(CO3)(OH). The holotype originates from the Vuoriyarvi (another spelling: Vuorijärvi) alkaline-ultrabasic complex, Northern Karelia, and the cotype from the Mochalin Log REE deposit, Potaniny Mts, South Urals, both in Russia. At Vuoriyarvi, hydroxylbastnäsite-(La) occurs as clusters (up to 1 mm) of light brown, honey-yellow or colourless hexagonal tabular to short-prismatic crystals up to 0.15 mm associated with fluorite and ancylite-(Ce) in cavities of calcite–dolomite carbonatites. At Mochalin Log, hydroxylbastnäsite-(La) forms light brown grains up to 0.2 mm included in massive aggregates of other LREE minerals: bastnäsite-(Ce), bastnäsite-(La), percleveite-(Ce), percleveite-(La), biraite-(Ce), biraite-(La), törnebohmite-(La), ferriperbøeite-(Ce), allanite-(Ce), etc. Dmeas is 4.75(2) and Dcalc is 4.778 g cm–3 (holotype). Hydroxylbastnäsite-(La) is optically uniaxial (+), ω = 1.76(1) and ε = 1.86(1) (holotype). The chemical composition (wt.%, electron microprobe, CO2 and H2O calculated: holotype/cotype) is: CaO 0.23/0.00, SrO 0.07/0.00, La2O3 39.47/39.58, Ce2O3 33.51/31.99, Pr2O3 1.03/1.51, Nd2O3 1.95/2.38, F 0.76/3.33, CO2 20.49/20.34, H2O 3.77/2.58, –O=F 0.32/1.40, total 100.96/100.31. The empirical formulae, calculated based on the sum of metal cations of 1 apfu and one CO3 group pfu, are (La0.52Ce0.44Nd0.02Pr0.01Ca0.01)Σ1.00(CO3)[(OH)0.90F0.09]Σ0.99 (holotype) and (La0.53Ce0.42Nd0.03Pr0.02)Σ1.00(CO3)[(OH)0.62F0.38]Σ1.00 (cotype). Hydroxylbastnäsite-(La) is hexagonal, P6̅, unit-cell parameters (from powder XRD data, holotype/cotype) are: a = 12.537(3)/12.533(1), c = 9.968(2)/9.908(1) Å, V = 1356.8(5)/1347.9(3) Å3 and Z = 18. Strong reflections of the powder XRD pattern [d,Å(I)(hkl)] are (holotype): 4.98(39)(002), 3.616(88)(300), 2.926(100)(302), 2.089(41)(330), 2.052(46)(304) and 1.927(40)(332). The crystal structure of holotype hydroxylbastnäsite-(La) was refined by the Rietveld method, Rwp = 0.0071, Rp = 0.0050, Robs = 0.0466. It is isostructural to hydroxylbastnäsite-(Ce) and synthetic bastnäsite-type hydroxyl-carbonates REE3+(CO3)(OH) (REE = La–Er), but differs from fluorine-dominant bastnäsites which adopt the space group P6̅2c.

We present the Pilot Survey Phase 2 data release for the Wide-field ASKAP L-band Legacy All-sky Blind surveY (WALLABY), carried-out using the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP). We present 1760 H i detections (with a default spatial resolution of 30′′) from three pilot fields including the NGC 5044 and NGC 4808 groups as well as the Vela field, covering a total of $\sim 180$ deg$^2$ of the sky and spanning a redshift up to $z \simeq 0.09$. This release also includes kinematic models for over 126 spatially resolved galaxies. The observed median rms noise in the image cubes is 1.7 mJy per 30′′ beam and 18.5 kHz channel. This corresponds to a 5$\sigma$ H i column density sensitivity of $\sim 9.1\times10^{19}(1 + z)^4$ cm$^{-2}$ per 30′′ beam and $\sim 20$ km s$^{-1}$ channel and a 5$\sigma$ H i mass sensitivity of $\sim 5.5\times10^8 (D/100$ Mpc)$^{2}$ M$_{\odot}$ for point sources. Furthermore, we also present for the first time 12′′ high-resolution images (“cut-outs”) and catalogues for a sub-sample of 80 sources from the Pilot Survey Phase 2 fields. While we are able to recover sources with lower signal-to-noise ratio compared to sources in the Public Data Release 1, we do note that some data quality issues still persist, notably, flux discrepancies that are linked to the impact of side lobes associated with the dirty beams due to inadequate deconvolution. However, in spite of these limitations, the WALLABY Pilot Survey Phase 2 has already produced roughly a third of the number of HIPASS sources, making this the largest spatially resolved H i sample from a single survey to date.

SARS-CoV-2 superspreading occurs when transmission is highly efficient and/or an individual infects many others, contributing to rapid spread. To better quantify heterogeneity in SARS-CoV-2 transmission, particularly superspreading, we performed a systematic review of transmission events with data on secondary attack rates or contact tracing of individual index cases published before September 2021 prior to the emergence of variants of concern and widespread vaccination. We reviewed 592 distinct events and 9,883 index cases from 491 papers. A meta-analysis of secondary attack rates identified substantial heterogeneity across 12 chosen event types/settings, with the highest transmission (25–35%) in co-living situations including households, nursing homes, and other congregate housing. Among index cases, 67% reported zero secondary cases and only 3% (287) infected >5 secondary cases (“superspreaders”). Index case demographic data were limited, with only 55% of individuals reporting age, sex, symptoms, real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) cycle threshold values, or total contacts. With the data available, we identified a higher percentage of superspreaders among symptomatic individuals, individuals aged 49–64 years, and individuals with over 100 total contacts. Addressing gaps in the literature regarding transmission events and contact tracing is needed to properly explain the heterogeneity in transmission and facilitate control efforts for SARS-CoV-2 and other infections.

With the development of overall design methodologies for hypersonic vehicles and their propulsion systems, nozzles should expand airflow in a short length and provide sufficient thrust. Therefore, the large expansion ratio single expansion ramp nozzle (LSERN) is widely used. The form of the overexpanded flow field in the nozzle is complex, under the conditions of nozzle start-up, low speed and low nozzle pressure ratio (NPR), thereby negatively influencing the entire propulsion system. Thus, the nozzle flow separation pattern and the key factors affecting the flow separation pattern also deserve considerable attention. In this study, the design of SERN is completed using the cubic curve design method, and the model is numerically simulated for specific operating conditions to study the flow separation patterns and the transition processes of different patterns. Furthermore, the key factors affecting the various flow separation patterns in the nozzle are investigated in detail. Results show that the LSERN in different NPRs appeared in two types of restricted shock separation (RSS) pattern and free shock separation (FSS) pattern, as well as their corresponding flow separation pattern transition processes. The initial expansion angle and the nozzle length affect the range of NPRs maintained by the FSS pattern. The initial expansion angle affects the pattern of flow separation, whereas the nozzle length remarkably influences the critical NPR during transition.

The new ludwigite-group mineral savelievaite, ideally Mg2Cr3+O2(BO3), was found in the chromitite body at the Malaya Kharamatalou river valley, Voikar–Syninskiy ultrabasic complex, Polar Urals, Russia. Savelievaite and Cr-enriched ludwigite occur in clinochlore veinlets and are associated with earlier magnesiochromite, spinel, chromite, pargasite, diopside, forsterite, serpentine, magnetite and pentlandite. Savelievaite forms prismatic, acicular or fibrous crystals up to 0.05 × 0.4 mm, usually assembled in radiating or chaotic clusters up to 1 × 1.5 mm across. It is opaque, black to greenish-black. The lustre is vitreous for prismatic crystals and silky for fibrous aggregates. D(calc.) = 3.91 g cm–3. Under the microscope in reflected light, savelievaite is grey, non-pleochroic, with weak bireflectance and anisotropism. The chemical composition (wt.%, EMPA, Fe2+:Fe3+ ratio by stoichiometry) is: MgO 34.88, FeO 10.83, NiO 0.36, B2O3 16.80, Al2O3 2.97, V2O3 0.21, Cr2O3 21.97, Fe2O3 12.40, TiO2 0.43, total 100.85. The empirical formula calculated on the basis of 5 O apfu is (Mg1.72Fe2+0.30Ni0.01)Σ2.03(Cr3+0.57Fe3+0.31Al0.12Ti0.01V3+0.01)Σ1.02B0.96O5. Savelievaite is orthorhombic, space group Pbam, a = 9.2631(6), b = 12.2298(8), c = 3.0104(2) Å, V = 341.04(4) Å3 and Z = 4. The strongest reflections of the powder X-ray diffraction pattern [d,Å(I)(hkl)] are: 5.101(100)(120); 2.551(90)(240); 2.524(88)(201); 2.163(36)(250); and 2.033(55)(321). The crystal structure was solved from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data and refined to R1 = 0.0405. Savelievaite is isostructural with ludwigite, Cr3+ is concentrated at the M4 site. The mineral is named in honour of the Russian petrologist and geologist Dr. Galina Nikolaevna Savelieva (b. 1936). Ludwigite, ideally Mg2Fe3+O2(BO3), and savelievaite form a continuous isomorphous series in which Cr3+ content varies from 0 to 0.60 apfu. Occurrences of Cr-enriched (>1 wt.% Cr2O3) varieties of ludwigite are mainly related to ultrabasic complexes. The Cr-richest (>10 wt.% Cr2O3) ludwigite–savelievaite-series members are found in chromite ores at the Voikar–Syninskiy complex and Volchiegorskoe and Tatishchevskoe deposits, both in the South Urals.

For the launch vehicle attitude control problem, traditional methods can seldom accurately identify the fault types, making the control method lack of pertinence, which largely affects the effect of attitude control. This paper proposes an active fault tolerant control strategy, which mainly includes fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control. In the fault diagnosis part, a small deviation attitude dynamics model of the launch vehicle is established, Kalman filters with different structures are designed to detect and isolate faults through residual changes, and the fault quantity of the actuator is further estimated. In the fault tolerant control part, the following control scheme is adopted according to the above diagnostic information: when the sensor fault is detected, the sensor measurement data is reconstructed; when the actuator fault is identified, the control allocation matrix is reconstructed. Simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively diagnose sensor fault and actuator faults, and significantly improve attitude tracking accuracy and control adjustment time.

Fluor-rossmanite, ideally □(Al2Li)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3F, is a new mineral of the tourmaline supergroup, found at the Krutaya pegmatite, Malkhan pegmatite field, Zabaykalskiy Krai, Western Siberia, Russia. It forms an intermediate zone up to 3 mm thick in a chemically heterogeneous, concentrically zoned, polychrome tourmaline crystal 3 × 2 cm in size. The new mineral is light pink, transparent with a white streak and a vitreous lustre. It is brittle, with conchoidal fracture. The Mohs hardness is 7. The Dmeas = 3.07(2) g cm–3 and Dcalc = 3.071 g cm–3. Optically, fluor-rossmanite is non-pleochroic, uniaxial (–), ω = 1.647(2) and ɛ = 1.628(2) (589 nm). The empirical formula calculated on the basis of 31 anions (O+OH+F) is: X(□0.46Na0.32Ca0.20Pb0.02)Σ1.00 Y(Al1.84Li1.05Mn0.05Fe2+0.02Ti0.02Cr0.01)Σ2.99 ZAl6.00 T(Si5.79Al0.21)Σ6.00B2.99O27 V(OH)3 W[F0.44(OH)0.20O0.36]Σ1.00. Fluor-rossmanite is trigonal, R3m; the unit-cell parameters are: a = 15.7951(3), c = 7.08646(17) Å, V = 1531.11(7) Å3 and Z = 3. The crystal structure is refined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data [R = 0.0211 for 1178 unique reflections with I > 2σ(I)]. The new mineral is a ‘fluor-’ species belonging to the X-vacant group of the tourmaline supergroup. The closest end-member compositions of valid tourmaline species are those of rossmanite and fluor-elbaite, to which fluor-rossmanite is related by the substitutions WF– ↔ WOH– and X2□ + YAl3+ ↔ X2Na+ + YLi+, respectively.

Scanning, transmission, and analytical electron microscopy studies of shales from the Salton Sea geothermal field revealed that phyllosilicates progress through zones of illite-muscovite (115°−220°C), chlorite (220°−310°C), and biotite (310°C). These phyllosilicates occur principally as discrete, euhedral to subhedral crystals which partly fill pore space. The structural and chemical heterogeneity, which is typical of phyllosilicates in shales subject to diagenesis, is generally absent. Textures and microstructures indicate that the mineral progression involves dissolution of detrital phases, mass transport through interconnecting pore space, and direct crystallization of phyllosilicates from solution.

Phyllosilicate stability relations indicate that either increase in temperature or changing ion concentrations in solutions with depth are capable of explaining the observed mineral zoning. Textural and compositional data suggest that the observed mineral assemblages and the interstitial fluids approach equilibrium relative to the original detrital suites. The alteration process may have occurred in a single, short-lived, episodic hydrothermal event in which the original detrital phases (smectite, etc.) reacted directly to precipitate illite, chlorite, or biotite at different temperatures (depths) without producing intermediate phases.

Using a life tables approach with 2011–2017 claims data, we calculated lifetime risks of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) beginning at age 18 years. The lifetime CDI risk rates were 32% in female patients insured by Medicaid, 10% in commercially insured male patients, and almost 40% in females with end-stage renal disease.

This paper explores the feasibility of a break-even-class mirror referred to as BEAM (break-even axisymmetric mirror): a neutral-beam-heated simple mirror capable of thermonuclear-grade parameters and $Q\sim 1$ conditions. Compared with earlier mirror experiments in the 1980s, BEAM would have: higher-energy neutral beams, a larger and denser plasma at higher magnetic field, both an edge and a core and capabilities to address both magnetohydrodynamic and kinetic stability of the simple mirror in higher-temperature plasmas. Axisymmetry and high-field magnets make this possible at a modest scale enabling a short development time and lower capital cost. Such a $Q\sim 1$ configuration will be useful as a fusion technology development platform, in which tritium handling, materials and blankets can be tested in a real fusion environment, and as a base for development of higher-$Q$ mirrors.

Earlier, the experiments on the aneutronic proton-boron (pB) fusion in a miniature nanosecond vacuum discharge (NVD) with oscillatory plasma confinement and correspondent α particles yield were presented. In this work, we consider some specific features of oscillatory confinement as a relatively new type of plasma confinement for fusion. Particle-in-cell (PiC) simulations of pB fusion processes have shown that the plasma in NVD, and especially on the discharge axis, is in a state close to a quasineutral one, which is rather different from the conditions in the well-known scheme of periodically oscillating plasma spheres (POPSs) suggested earlier for fusion. Apparently, small-scale oscillations in NVD are a mechanism of resonant ion heating, unlike coherent compressions in the original POPS scheme. Nevertheless, the favorable scaling of the fusion power in NVD turns out to be close to the POPS fusion but differs significantly both in the compression ratio and in the values of the parameter of quasineutrality. In addition, unlike the POPS scheme, PiC simulation reveals that the distribution functions of protons and boron ions in NVD are non-Maxwellian. Therefore, we have an aneutronic pB synthesis in a nonequilibrium plasma remaining “nonignited” on the discharge axis.

The influence of epigenetic (pre-pedogenetic) alteration of basic and ultrabasic rocks leading to the formation of phyllosilicate mineral associations is not well known. The purpose of this study was to gain further understanding of the processes involved by investigating the mineral associations of shallow soils underlain by amphibolites and metamorphosed gabbro-diabases (East Fennoscandia) and by serpentinous dunites (olivinite) and metagabbro amphibolites (the Ural Mountains). Where phyllosilicates were absent from the bedrock, they were also absent from the sola. The pedogenic alteration of the initial mineral soil matrix was very weak and did not result in a significant accumulation of phyllosilicates in the soils (East Fennoscandia). Pedogenesis enhanced the transformation of phyllosilicates, a process initiated by epigenic rock alteration.

Phyllosilicates in the sola from basic and ultrabasic rocks of the Polar Urals were largely inherited according to their origin. The inherited phyllosilicate association of the sola from ultrabasic rocks included talc, serpentine, and chlorite. Saponite resulted from pedogenesis; its distribution in various thin soils depending on the processes of neoformation and decomposition, the latter probably taking place under the influence of lichens and moss.

Chlorite and illite and products of their transformation, including vermiculite, comprise the phyllosilicate association of a solum from basic rock, and traces of talc were found. The distribution of vermiculite and randomly interstratified chlorite-vermiculite (C-V) depended on the processes of chlorite vermiculitization and vermiculite decomposition.
