The experiments reported in this research paper aimed to determine the effect of supplementing different forms of L-methionine (L-Met) and acetate on protein synthesis in immortalized bovine mammary epithelial cell line (MAC-T cells). Treatments were Control, L-Met, conjugated L-Met and acetate (CMA), and non-conjugated L-Met and Acetate (NMA). Protein synthesis mechanism was determined by omics method. NMA group had the highest protein content in the media and CSN2 mRNA expression levels (P < 0.05). The number of upregulated and downregulated proteins observed were 39 and 77 in L-Met group, 62 and 80 in CMA group and 50 and 81 in NMA group from 448 proteins, respectively (P < 0.05). L-Met, NMA and CMA treatments stimulated pathways related to protein and energy metabolism (P < 0.05). Metabolomic analysis also revealed that L-Met, CMA and NMA treatments resulted in increases of several metabolites (P < 0.05). In conclusion, NMA treatment increased protein concentration and expression level of CSN2 mRNA in MAC-T cells compared to control as well as L-Met and CMA treatments through increased expression of milk protein synthesis-related genes and production of the proteins and metabolites involved in energy and protein synthesis pathways.

Crystalline silicon dominates the solar panel industry today but remains relatively expensive to manufacture. If devices could be fabricated from inexpensive materials by a simple solution process without the need for high-temperature annealing, their cost could be considerably reduced. Recently, inorganic–organic (I/O) hybrid systems based on inorganic nanoparticles (including quantum dots) and perovskite materials as light harvesters with organic hole-conducting materials have shown great potential for efficient solar cells due to the combination of superior optical properties and solution-based processes. In this review, we describe the relevant morphological factors and the performance of perovskite solar cells with tuned heterojunctions. In particular, we describe the mediator retarding the rapid crystallization of perovskite layers for a bilayer configuration. Appropriate processes and chemical engineering induced the formation of well-crystallized perovskite materials with extremely uniform and dense perovskite layers and remarkably improved the performance of the cells with a National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)-certified record efficiency of 20.1%.

The growth of high-quality indium (In)-rich InXGa1−XN alloys is technologically important for applications to attain highly efficient green light-emitting diodes and solar cells. However, phase separation and composition modulation in In-rich InXGa1−XN alloys are inevitable phenomena that degrade the crystal quality of In-rich InXGa1−XN layers. Composition modulations were observed in the In-rich InXGa1−XN layers with various In compositions. The In composition modulation in the InXGa1−XN alloys formed in samples with In compositions exceeding 47%. The misfit strain between the InGaN layer and the GaN buffer retarded the composition modulation, which resulted in the formation of modulated regions 100 nm above the In0.67Ga0.33N/GaN interface. The composition modulations were formed on the specific crystallographic planes of both the {0001} and {0114} planes of InGaN.

The catalytic activity of Pt nanoparticles (NPs) significantly influences the electrochemical performance of direct methanol fuel cells. Information about the factors that influence the electrochemical activity of the catalyst themselves is scarce; hence, guidelines for the preparation of Pt NPs that yields the best performances are lacking. With consideration for this situation, we systematically investigated the relationship(s) between the characteristics of Pt NPs and their electrochemical performance. The general characteristics of Pt NPs, such as the average size, loading density, and dispersion status on the support, were varied in the presence of poly(acrylic acid)-wrapped multiwalled carbon nanotubes by controlling the preparation conditions, including the pH of the aqueous solution, the reaction temperature, and the reaction time. The enhanced catalytic activity is attributable to higher degree of dispersion, specific surface area, and electrochemically active surface area of Pt NPs. The optimized catalyst exhibits a ∼165% higher catalytic activity toward methanol oxidation than the commercial E-TEK.

The laser annealing effects on the TEOS (Tetra-Ethyl-Ortho-Silicate) oxide of MOS (Al/TEOS/n+ Silicon ) structures was investigated with different initial oxide conditions, such as breakdown field. The breakdown field increased upto the 170 mJ/cm2 with increasing laser energy density and decreased at 220 mJ/cm2. It is considered that the increase of breakdown field is originated from the restore of strains which exist mainly at the metal/oxide interface.

The material properties of laser-annealed a-Si:Nx films were investigated. The a-Si:Nx films for laser-annealing were deposited by rf plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) with NH3 and SiH4 gas mixtures. At the 0.35 of NH3/SiH4 ratio, the optical band-gap was abruptly increased to 2.82 eV from 2.05 eV by laser-annealing which indicates that Si-N bonding comes to be notable at that ratio. The electrical conductivity showed the maximum value of 4× 10-6 S/cm at the 0.11 of NH3/SiH4 ratio where the grain growth and the increase of Si-N bonding are optimized for the enhancement of electrical conductivity. The σP/σD ratio which is related to the defects states for photo generation centers was decreased with increasing NH 3/SiH 4 ratio. Our experimental data showed that the optical band gap and electrical conductivity of laserannealed a-Si:Nx films were dominantly affected by the NH3/SiH4 ratio at the 250 mJ/cm2 of laser-annealing energy density.
