Serine protease inhibitors (serpins) play essential physiological roles in a wide range of biological processes. Serpins are researched limited in Taenia solium, although some are considered to participate in host immune responses. Tsserpins were identified as typical serpins due to the primary structure of characteristic features: the serpin motif, serpin signature and reaction centre loop (RCL). RCLs of four serpin genes (TsB6, Ts4848, Ts12383 and Ts570) contained the conserved sequences of inhibitory serpins, which may involve in immune regulation. TsEP45 differed greatly from the patterns of representative serpins, suggesting that TsEP45 may be non-inhibitory. The bioinformatic analyses were supposed that Tsserpins might be a potential antigen for diagnosis. The five recombinant Tsserpin proteins were expressed and identified reacting with Cysticercus cellulosae-positive serum samples. The indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (iELISAs) based on Tsserpins were developed and validated, one of the five Tsserpins, TsEP45, showed excellent diagnostic results with 93·33% sensitivity and 94·12% specificity, respectively. This performance was in perfect accordance with the results of the bioinformatic analysis. This study provided a comprehensive demonstration of sequences and structural-based analysis of Tsserpins. The iELISAs based on five Tsserpins were developed and compared. TsEP45 was the potential species-specific antigen for developing iELISA to detect porcine cysticercosis.

Guanxi, a social network tie drawing on connections in business relations, has been identified as a powerful strategic tool helping organizations maintain competitive advantages and achieve superior performance. However, prior empirical studies on die gM/m-performance link provide indefinite conclusions. The purpose of this study is to systematically review and quandfy the guanxi-performance link in a meta-analytic framework by decomposing guanxi into business ties (i.e., guanxi with business partners) and government ties (i.e., guanxi with government authorities) and organizational performance into economic performance and operational performance. Based on effect sizes from fifty-three studies encompassing 20,212 organizations, we estimate that the overall effect size of the guanxi-pertormance relationship is positive and significant, thus endorsing the argument that guanxi does enhance organizational performance. Specifically, our meta-analysis results demonstrate that both business and government ties lead to both economic and operational performance. However, business ties have a bigger impact on operational performance, whereas government ties exert larger effects on economic performance. Further meta-analytic regression results suggest that ownership (state-owned vs. non-state-owned) and location (Mainland vs. overseas China) explain some of the variations of the guanxi-performance link. Both business and government ties are more important to organizations in Mainland China than to those in overseas China. Government ties are more important to state-owned than to non-state-owned organizations. Lasdy, while business ties remain a valuable strategic tool in China, the importance of government ties is time-variant and has been declining with the development of the institutional environment in China.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been considered as a promising interconnect material to replace the solder bump used in the flip chip package because of their special electrical, mechanical and thermal properties, which may promote both the performance and reliability of the flip chip packaging. In this paper, electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of CNTs on substrates has been demonstrated for the interconnect application. EPD is a simple, low cost and high throughput process that is capable to produce densely packed film with good homogeneity at low temperature. By altering the electric fields and deposition time during the EPD process, the thickness of the CNTs film could be controlled. In this study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were successfully coated on the various substrates using the EPD method. A highly uniform CNTs microstructure film with thickness over 5 µm was achieved. In addition, the selective depositions of CNTs on the pre-defined bond pads to form CNTs bumps were also accomplished. By employing typical flip-chip bonding technique, high density CNTs bumps were aligned to form a test chip/host substrate interconnects. The electrical conductivity of the CNTs interconnects was carried out using four-point probe measurement. Reliable electrical contacts with linear relationship in the current-voltage (I-V) characteristic suggesting ohmic behaviour were attained. The overall resistances extracted were also relatively low. These superior electrical properties have demonstrated that the CNTs bumps deposited using EPD method is a viable way to serve as an alternative to current metal solder interconnects material such as Sn-Pb alloys. Hence, it offers a promising interconnect application in the quest for device miniaturization in microelectronic industry.

Shape control of nanocrystals has become an indispensable part in material research, such as developing new battery raw materials and synthesizing high activity catalysts. In this work, one-dimensional LiV3O8 nanorods have been fabricated by high temperature solid-state reaction using V2O5 nanowires as precursors obtained via a hydrothermal method. The as-prepared LiV3O8 nanorods were characterized by x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and galvanostatic tests, compared with LiV3O8 samples synthesized by the traditional one-step solid-state method. The results show that LiV3O8 nanorods exhibited better electrochemical performance than those synthesized by the traditional method, indicating that a different shape will lead to huge distinctions in electrochemical properties. This work demonstrates that Li-insertion/deintercalation dynamics might be crystal morphology-sensitive.

The transient electroluminescence (EL) of phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) was investigated. The behaviors of the transient characteristics are analyzed using the triplet-triplet annihilation model. The device exhibited a gradual decrease in quantum current efficiency owing to the triplet-triplet annihilation at a high current density. At a higher current density, the reduced rise and decay times are due to high-density triplet excitons related to the enhanced triplet-triplet annihilation and the increase of the nonradiative process. The modulation speed of the devices is mainly limited by the phosphorescent recombination lifetime.

Temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectra were measured to characterize the In-doped cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe, or CZT) crystals along the growth direction in the range of 10 to 60 K. High-resistivity CZT samples with 1.2 ppm In dopant at the tip and low-resistivity samples with 60 ppm In dopant at the heel have been assessed. The PL intensity quenching of D0X were fitted with two activation energies for high-resistivity CZT sample and only one activation energy for low-resistivity sample, respectively, suggesting different recombination mechanisms. The C-line was observed in the PL spectra of low-resistivity CZT sample and considered to the results of the isoelectronic complexes, InCd–VCd–InCd, while in high-resistivity CZT sample, shallow donor accepted pair (DAP) transition was identified, and thought to be related to InCd–VCd. The A-center in PL spectra was observed in low-resistivity CZT sample, which is indicative of more cadmium vacancies. It turns out that indium in low-resistivity CZT sample has not been doped as efficiently as in high-resistivity CZT sample because of the self-compensation.

Biodegradable polymers have significant potential in biotechnology and bioengineering. However, for some applications, they are limited by their inferior mechanical properties and unsatisfactory compatibility with cells and tissues. A strong, biodegradable, and biocompatible elastomer could be useful for fields such as tissue engineering, drug delivery, and in vivo sensing [1, 2]. We designed, synthesized, and characterized a tough biodegradable elastomer from biocompatible monomers. This elastomer forms a covalently crosslinked three-dimensional network of random coils with hydroxyl groups attached to its backbone. Both crosslinking and the hydrogen bonding interactions between the hydroxyl groups likely contributes to the unique properties of the elastomer. In vitro and in vivo studies show the polymer has good biocompatibility. Subcutaneous (SC) polymer implants are absorbed completely within 60 days with restoration of the implantation sites to their normal architecture.

A bulk sample of La0.6Mg0.4MnO3 has been prepared from coprecipitated carbonate precursor for the first time in this study. Structure analysis conducted by powder x-ray diffraction indicates that the sample is in the cubic perovskite phase. It shows a metal-insulator transition at 115 K (Tp) When applied to an external field, GMR effects are observed in the whole measured temperature range. The maximum negative MR value reaches as large as 480% at 105 K and 5 T. There may be two different mechanisms governing the GMR effects in the sample for the temperatures below and above Tp.
