Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) shows spatiotemporal heterogeneity in China. A spatiotemporal filtering model was constructed and applied to HFMD data to explore the underlying spatiotemporal structure of the disease and determine the impact of different spatiotemporal weight matrices on the results. HFMD cases and covariate data in East China were collected between 2009 and 2015. The different spatiotemporal weight matrices formed by Rook, K-nearest neighbour (KNN; K = 1), distance, and second-order spatial weight matrices (SO-SWM) with first-order temporal weight matrices in contemporaneous and lagged forms were decomposed, and spatiotemporal filtering model was constructed by selecting eigenvectors according to MC and the AIC. We used MI, standard deviation of the regression coefficients, and five indices (AIC, BIC, DIC, R2, and MSE) to compare the spatiotemporal filtering model with a Bayesian spatiotemporal model. The eigenvectors effectively removed spatial correlation in the model residuals (Moran’s I < 0.2, p > 0.05). The Bayesian spatiotemporal model’s Rook weight matrix outperformed others. The spatiotemporal filtering model with SO-SWM was superior, as shown by lower AIC (92,029.60), BIC (92,681.20), and MSE (418,022.7) values, and higher R2 (0.56) value. All spatiotemporal contemporaneous structures outperformed the lagged structures. Additionally, eigenvector maps from the Rook and SO-SWM closely resembled incidence patterns of HFMD.

We replicate and extend Jia, You, and Du's (2012) study. We added samples from the last 13 years (from 2011 to 2023) and analyzed these new samples using the same methodology as the 2012 article. Our replication found that in the last 13 years, 4 articles in the six leading journals and 16 articles in Management and Organization Review (MOR) have the highest degree of Chinese contextualization in concepts (what), their relationships (how), and the logics underlying the relationships (why). The Chinese context continues to contribute novel knowledge. The extension study fully demonstrates that in the 20 years since its birth, MOR has been on the path of pursuing its original aspiration and realizing its mission. On the what, why, and joint contextualization dimensions, the proportion of articles published in MOR with high contextualized theoretical contributions is higher than the proportion in the six leading journals. On the theory-building dimension, the overall degree of the articles published in MOR is higher than that of those published in the six leading journals. This indicates that MOR publishes articles that are not only of high quality and make general theoretical contributions, but also are highly relevant to the Chinese context.

Broadband frequency-tripling pulses with high energy are attractive for scientific research, such as inertial confinement fusion, but are difficult to scale up. Third-harmonic generation via nonlinear frequency conversion, however, remains a trade-off between bandwidth and conversion efficiency. Based on gradient deuterium deuterated potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDxH2-xPO4, DKDP) crystal, here we report the generation of frequency-tripling pulses by rapid adiabatic passage with a low-coherence laser driver facility. The efficiency dependence on the phase-matching angle in a Type-II configuration is studied. We attained an output at 352 nm with a bandwidth of 4.4 THz and an efficiency of 36%. These results, to the best of our knowledge, represent the first experimental demonstration of gradient deuterium DKDP crystal in obtaining frequency-tripling pulses. Our research paves a new way for developing high-efficiency, large-bandwidth frequency-tripling technology.

Caryocaridids are a unique representative of pelagic arthropods from the Ordovician period. They are typically found as flattened carapaces in mudstones and shales. This study reports on a species of caryocaridids, Soomicaris cedarbergensis, discovered in the Lower Ordovician of northwestern Xinjiang, NW China. The species shows the rare enrolled carapaces with a preserved cuticular ultrastructure. These specimens of caryocaridids from Xinjiang are the first reported in the Yili Block, and provide the substantial evidence that the paleogeographic distribution of caryocaridid phyllocarids could extend to the Central Asian Orogenic Belt. This species existed from the late Tremadocian until the end of the Ordovician (Hirnantian), making it the longest-ranging known species of caryocaridids. The carapace cuticle of S. cedarbergensis is composed of carbonate-fluorapatite and can be divided into three mineralized lamellae: outer, middle, and inner. The outer and inner lamellae each consist of three layers that correspond to the epicuticle, exocuticle, and endocuticle of extant crustacean carapaces. Moreover, the polygonal reticulation structure of the carapace in archaeostracans appears to be similar in shape and size to the hemolymph sinuses of leptostracans. This unique ultrastructure of the carapace cuticle in caryocaridids is believed to be better suited for a pelagic lifestyle.

Saccharin is a widely used sugar substitute, but little is known about the long-term health effects of saccharin intake. Our study aimed to examine the association between saccharin intake and mortality in diabetic and pre-diabetic population and overweight population from NHANES 1988–1994. Cox proportional hazard models were used to evaluate the association between saccharin intake and CVD, cancer and all-cause mortality. After multivariable adjustment, increased absolute saccharin intake was associated with the risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio (HR): 1·41, 95 % CI: 1·05, 1·90), CVD mortality (HR: 1·93, 95 % CI: 1·15, 3·25) and cancer mortality (HR: 2·26, 95 % CI: 1·10, 4·45) in diabetic and pre-diabetic population. Among overweight population, higher absolute saccharin intake was associated with the risk of cancer mortality (HR: 7·369, 95 % CI: 2·122, 25·592). Replacing absolute saccharin intake with total sugar significantly reduced all-cause mortality by 12·5 % and CVD mortality by 49·7 % in an equivalent substitution analysis in the diabetic and pre-diabetic population. Aspartame substitution reduced all-cause mortality by 29·2 % and cancer mortality by 30·2 %. Notably, the relative daily intake of saccharin also had similar effects as the absolute intake on all-cause, cardiovascular and cancer mortality in all analyses. This was despite the fact that the relative daily intake in our study was below the Food and Drug Administration limit of 15 mg/kg. In conclusion, our study showed a considerable risk of increased saccharin intake on the all-cause, CVD mortality and cancer mortality.

In this paper, a novel tensioning and relaxing wearable system is introduced to improve the wearing comfort and load-bearing capabilities of knee exoskeletons. The research prototype of the novel system, which features a distinctive overrunning clutch drive, is presented. Through co-simulation with ANSYS, MATLAB, and SOLIDWORKS software, a comprehensive multi-objective optimization is performed to enhance the dynamics performance of the prototype. Firstly, the wearing contact stiffness of the prototype and the mechanical parameters of the relevant materials are simulated and fitted based on the principle of functional equivalence. And then, its equivalent nonlinear circumferential stiffness model is obtained. Secondly, to enhance the wearing comfort of the exoskeleton, a novel comprehensive performance evaluation index, termed wearing comfort, is introduced. The index considers multiple factors such as the duration of vibration transition, the acceleration encountered during wear, and the average pressure applied. Finally, through the utilization of this indicator, the system’s dynamics performance is optimized via multi-platform co-simulation, and the simulation results validate the effectiveness of the research method and the proposed wearable comfort index. The theoretical basis for the subsequent research on the effectiveness of prototype weight-bearing is provided.

Barnyardgrass [Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) P. Beauv.] is increasingly infesting imidazolinone-tolerant (IMI-T) rice (Oryza sativa L.) fields in China, and E. crus-galli imazamox resistance has become the major concern for weed management in IMI-T rice fields. In this study, the susceptible population JLGY-3 (S) and the suspected resistant population JHXY-2 (R) collected from IMI-T rice fields were used as research subjects. When treated with imazamox, the JHXY-2 (R) population showed a high level of herbicide resistance with a resistance index of 31.2. JHXY-2 (R) was cross-resistant to all five acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitors from different chemical families, but sensitive to herbicides inhibiting acetyl-CoA carboxylase. To understand the reason why JHXY-2 (R) was resistant to imazamox, we performed experiments to characterize potential target-site resistance (TSR) and non–target site resistance (NTSR) mechanisms. A Trp-574-Leu amino acid mutation in ALS and low imazamox ALS sensitivity were the main mechanisms underlying imazamox resistance in this JHXY-2 (R) population. There was no significant difference in ALS gene expression and ALS protein abundance between R and S populations. High-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry analysis showed enhanced metabolism of imazamox in JHXY-2 (R), which was in contrast to the results of pretreatment with a metabolic enzyme inhibitor. Treatments with cytochrome P450 monooxygenase/glutathione S-transferase (P450/GST) inhibitors did not alter the resistance level of JHXY-2 (R) against imazamox. Transcriptome sequencing showed that there was almost no significant difference in the expression of P450 and GST metabolic enzyme genes between R and S populations, and only GSTU1 showed a significant upregulation in the R population, further clarifying the NTSR mechanism of JHXY-2 (R). In conclusion, amino acid mutation and higher enzyme activity of ALS are the main causes of imazamox resistance in JHXY-2 (R). However, given the differences in imazamox residues in the leaves of E. crus-galli, there may still be undetectable NTSR mechanisms that are causing imazamox resistance in the R population.

The Weng'an Biota from the Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation in Guizhou Province, southwestern China, is known for its three-dimensionally phosphatized acritarchs, multicellular algae, and embryo-like animal fossils. Among these diverse microfossils, acanthomorphic acritarchs have played a significant role in the biostratigraphic subdivision and correlation of the lower-middle Ediacaran System. However, most previous studies on the biostratigraphy of the Doushantuo Formation in the Weng'an area have focused on large acanthomorphic acritarchs (LAAs, vesicle diameter >200 μm), whereas the smaller acanthomorphic acritarchs (SAAs, vesicle diameter <100 μm) from the Weng'an Biota have been largely overlooked. In this study, we examined >500 thin sections and discovered a large number of well-preserved, small (<100 μm) and medium-sized acanthomorphic acritarchs (MAAs, vesicle diameter ranging 100–200 μm). In total, we have identified SAAs in four genera and six species (Tanarium conoideum Kolosova, 1991, emend. Moczydłowska et al., 1993; Tanarium elegans Liu et al., 2014; Mengeosphaera membranifera Shang, Liu, and Moczydłowska, 2019; Mengeosphaera minima Liu et al., 2014; Estrella recta Liu and Moczydłowska, 2019; Variomargosphaeridium gracile Xiao et al., 2014), as well as two types of MAAs (Tanarium tuberosum Moczydłowska, Vidal, and Rudavskaya, 1993, emend. Moczydłowska, 2015; Weissiella cf. W. grandistella Vorob'eva, Sergeev, and Knoll, 2009, emend. Liu and Moczydłowska, 2019). This updated acritarch assemblage of the Weng'an Biota is valuable for correlating the Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation between the Weng'an and Yangtze Gorges areas. It also serves as a tool to test the proposed acritarch biozones in Ediacaran formations of South China and other localities, including Australia, Siberia, and the East European Platform.

This paper retrospectively analysed the prevalence of macrolide-resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MRMP) in some parts of China. Between January 2013 and December 2019, we collected 4,145 respiratory samples, including pharyngeal swabs and alveolar lavage fluid. The highest PCR-positive rate of M. pneumoniae was 74.5% in Beijing, the highest resistance rate was 100% in Shanghai, and Gansu was the lowest with 20%. The highest PCR-positive rate of M. pneumoniae was 74.5% in 2013, and the highest MRMP was 97.4% in 2019; the PCR-positive rate of M. pneumoniae for adults in Beijing was 17.9% and the MRMP was 10.48%. Among the children diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), the PCR-positive and macrolide-resistant rates of M. pneumoniae were both higher in the severe ones. A2063G in domain V of 23S rRNA was the major macrolide-resistant mutation, accounting for more than 90%. The MIC values of all MRMP to erythromycin and azithromycin were ≥ 64 μg/ml, and the MICs of tetracycline and levofloxacin were ≤ 0.5 μg/ml and ≤ 1 μg/ml, respectively. The macrolide resistance varied in different regions and years. Among inpatients, the macrolide-resistant rate was higher in severe pneumonia. A2063G was the common mutation, and we found no resistance to tetracycline and levofloxacin.

In the pipeline industry, it is often necessary to monitor cracks and damage in pipelines, or need to clean the inside of the pipeline regularly, or collect adhesive on the inner wall of the pipe, but the pipe is too narrow and difficult for humans to enter, it is necessary to use a pipe machine to complete the work. In this paper, a newly designed screw-driven in-pipe inspection robot (IPIR) is proposed. Compared with common robots, this robot innovatively designs adapting mechanism. The robot can not only adapt to the change of the inner diameter size of the pipeline by using the bionic principle and the deformation characteristics of flexible components but also can pass smoothly in the horizontal/oblique/vertical pipelines and has a certain ability to cross obstacles. In addition, it can transmit images of the inner wall of the pipeline wirelessly for data analysis. Finally, through theoretical analysis and prototype construction, the performance of the robot is verified. The results show that the prototype robot can not only smoothly pass through the acrylic pipe with inner diameter of 120–138 mm but also pass through boss with a height of 3 mm.

The laboratory generation and diagnosis of uniform near-critical-density (NCD) plasmas play critical roles in various studies and applications, such as fusion science, high energy density physics, astrophysics as well as relativistic electron beam generation. Here we successfully generated the quasistatic NCD plasma sample by heating a low-density tri-cellulose acetate (TCA) foam with the high-power-laser-driven hohlraum radiation. The temperature of the hohlraum is determined to be 20 eV by analyzing the spectra obtained with the transmission grating spectrometer. The single-order diffraction grating was employed to eliminate the high-order disturbance. The temperature of the heated foam is determined to be T = 16.8 ± 1.1 eV by analyzing the high-resolution spectra obtained with a flat-field grating spectrometer. The electron density of the heated foam is about $N_e=4.0\pm 0.3\times {10}^{20}{\text{cm}}^{-3}$ under the reasonable assumption of constant mass density.

In order to develop high-performance adsorbents to remove toxic methylene blue (MB) from wastewater, palygorskite (Plg) was utilized as a template to prepare palygorskite/carbon (Plg/C) composites by using a hydrothermal reaction in the presence of glucose. The porous Plg/C composites were then activated with ZnCl2. The effects of the dose of the activator and the activation temperature on the crystal structure, micro-morphology, specific surface area, and adsorption performance of the porous Plg/C composites were studied systematically here. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results indicated that the crystal structure of Plg was destroyed during the activation process and irregular porous carbon was closely attached to the residual aluminosilicate skeleton. The activation was optimized at 400°C with a ZnCl2:Plg/C impregnation ratio of 2:1. The sample had a specific surface area of 1497.88 m2/g, together with a total pore volume and micropore volume of 1.0355 and 0.5464 cm3/g, respectively. The MB adsorption capacity was 381.04 mg/g. Such inexpensive, high-performance, porous Plg/C composites could find potential applications in wastewater treatment.

To accelerate high-intensity heavy-ion beams to high energy in the booster ring (BRing) at the High-Intensity Heavy-Ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) project, we take the typical reference particle 238U35+, which can be accelerated from an injection energy of 17 MeV/u to the maximal extraction energy of 830 MeV/u, as an example to study the basic processes of longitudinal beam dynamics, including beam capture, acceleration, and bunch merging. The voltage amplitude, the synchronous phase, and the frequency program of the RF system during the operational cycle were given, and the beam properties such as bunch length, momentum spread, longitudinal beam emittance, and beam loss were derived, firstly. Then, the beam properties under different voltage amplitude and synchronous phase errors were also studied, and the results were compared with the cases without any errors. Next, the beam properties with the injection energy fluctuation were also studied. The tolerances of the RF errors and injection energy fluctuation were dictated based on the CISP simulations. Finally, the effect of space charge at the low injection energy with different beam intensities on longitudinal emittance and beam loss was evaluated.

Chlorite is a layered silicate mineral group of importance in geology, agriculture, and in the processing of mineral resources. A more detailed analysis of the surface charge of chlorite minerals is important in order to improve our fundamental understanding of such particle structures and their behavior in suspension. In this study, the anisotropic surface charging of chlorite has been established using Atomic Force Microscopy surface-force measurements with a silicon nitride tip. The surface-charge densities and surface potentials at the chlorite basal-plane surfaces and edge surface were obtained by fitting force curves with the Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek theoretical model. The results show that at pH 5.6, 8.0, and 9.0 the chlorite mica-like face is negatively charged with the isoelectric point (IEP) less than pH 5.6. In contrast, the chlorite brucite-like face is positively charged in this pH range and the IEP is greater than pH 9.0. The surface charging of the chlorite edge surface was found to be pH-dependent with the IEP occurring at pH 8.5, which is slightly greater than the edge surfaces of talc and muscovite due to the larger content of magnesium hydroxide at the chlorite edge surface. Findings from the present research are expected to provide a fundamental foundation for the analysis of industrial requirements, e.g. collector adsorption, slime coating, and particle interactions in the area of mineral-processing technology.

A local COVID-19 outbreak with two community clusters occurred in a large industrial city, Shaoxing, China, in December 2021 after serial interventions were imposed. We aimed to understand the reason by analysing the characteristics of the outbreak and evaluating the effects of phase-adjusted interventions. Publicly available data from 7 December 2021 to 25 January 2022 were collected to analyse the epidemiological characteristics of this outbreak. The incubation period was estimated using Hamiltonian Monte Carlo method. A well-fitted extended susceptible-exposed-infectious-recovered model was used to simulate the impact of different interventions under various combination of scenarios. There were 387 SARS-CoV-2-infected cases identified, and 8.3% of them were initially diagnosed as asymptomatic cases. The estimated incubation period was 5.4 (95% CI 5.2–5.7) days for all patients. Strengthened measures of comprehensive quarantine based on tracing led to less infections and a shorter duration of epidemic. With a same period of incubation, comprehensive quarantine was more effective in containing the transmission than other interventions. Our findings reveal an important role of tracing and comprehensive quarantine in blocking community spread when a cluster occurred. Regions with tense resources can adopt home quarantine as a relatively affordable and low-impact intervention measure compared with centralized quarantine.

In this paper, we investigate the constrained attitude control problem of hypersonic vehicles (HVs). An improved prescribed performance dynamic surface control method is proposed based on an adaptive scaling strategy. Because of the uncertain time-varying disturbances, the controlled state may violate the constraint in the prescribed performance control (PPC) framework. An adaptive scaling strategy is introduced in the PPC method to avoid state violation. The performance function is scaled with respect to the state adaptively. Moreover, a nonlinear disturbance observer is used to compensate the sum of external and other internal disturbances of the system. The proposed method improves the system dynamic performance while ensuring the system robustness. Furthermore, the stability of the closed-loop system is proved by Lyapunov analysis. Finally, numerical simulations are implemented to verify the effectiveness of the PPC method and superiority over other methods.
