While the cross-sectional relationship between internet gaming disorder (IGD) and depression is well-established, whether IGD predicts future depression remains debated, and the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. This large-scale, three-wave longitudinal study aimed to clarify the predictive role of IGD in depression and explore the mediating effects of resilience and sleep distress.
Methods
A cohort of 41,215 middle school students from Zigong City was assessed at three time points: November 2021 (T1), November 2022 (T2) and November 2023 (T3). IGD, depression, sleep distress and resilience were measured using standardized questionnaires. Multiple logistic regression was used to examine the associations between baseline IGD and both concurrent and subsequent depression. Mediation analyses were conducted with T1 IGD as the predictor, T2 sleep distress and resilience as serial mediators and T3 depression as the outcome. To test the robustness of the findings, a series of sensitivity analyses were performed. Additionally, sex differences in the mediation pathways were explored.
Results
(1) IGD was independently associated with depression at baseline (T1: adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 4.76, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.79–5.98, p < 0.001), 1 year later (T2: AOR = 1.42, 95% CI: 1.16–1.74, p < 0.001) and 2 years later (T3: AOR = 1.24, 95% CI: 1.01–1.53, p = 0.042); (2) A serial multiple mediation effect of sleep distress and resilience was identified in the relationship between IGD and depression. The mediation ratio was 60.7% in the unadjusted model and 33.3% in the fully adjusted model, accounting for baseline depression, sleep distress, resilience and other covariates. The robustness of our findings was supported by various sensitivity analyses; and (3) Sex differences were observed in the mediating roles of sleep distress and resilience, with the mediation ratio being higher in boys compared to girls.
Conclusions
IGD is a significant predictor of depression in adolescents, with resilience and sleep distress serving as key mediators. Early identification and targeted interventions for IGD may help prevent depression. Intervention strategies should prioritize enhancing resilience and improving sleep quality, particularly among boys at risk.
Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) formations for bearing-only passive detection are increasingly important in modern military confrontations, and the array of the formation is one of the decisive factors affecting the detection accuracy of the system. How to plan the optimal geometric array in bearing-only detection is a complex nondeterministic polynomial problem, and this paper proposed the distributed stochastic subgradient projection algorithm (DSSPA) with layered constraints to solve this challenge. Firstly, based on the constraints of safe flight altitude and fixed baseline, the UAV formation is layered, and the system model for bearing-only cooperative localisation is constructed and analysed. Then, the calculation formula for geometric dilution of precision (GDOP) in the observation plane is provided, this nonlinear objective function is appropriately simplified to obtain its quadratic form, ensuring that it can be adapted and used efficiently in the system model. Finally, the proposed distributed stochastic subgradient projection algorithm (DSSPA) combines the idea of stochastic gradient descent with the projection method. By performing a projection operation on each feasible solution, it ensures that the updated parameters can satisfy the constraints while efficiently solving the convex optimisation problem of array planning. In addition to theoretical proof, this paper also conducts three simulation experiments of different scales, validating the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method for bearing-only detection array planning in UAV formations. This research provides essential guidance and technical reference for the deployment of UAV formations and path planning of detection platforms.
This paper proposes a cooperative midcourse guidance law with target changing and topology switching for multiple interceptors intercepting targets in the case of target loss and communication topology switching. Firstly, a three-dimensional guidance model is established and a cooperative trajectory shaping guidance law is given. Secondly, the average position consistency protocol of virtual interception points is designed for communication topology switching, and the convergence of the average position of virtual interception points under communication topology switching is proved by Lyapunov stability theory. Then, in the case of the target changing, the target handover law and the handover phase guidance law are designed to ensure the acceleration smoothing, at last, the whole cooperative midcourse guidance law is given based on the combination of the above guidance laws. Finally, numerical simulation results show the effectiveness and the superiority of the proposed cooperative midcourse guidance law.
The axisymmetric nozzle mechanism is the core part for thrust vectoring of aero engine, which contains complex rigid-flexible coupled multibody system with joints clearance and significantly reduces the efficiency in modeling and calculation, therefore the kinematics and dynamics analysis of axisymmetric vectoring nozzle mechanism based on deep neural network is proposed. The deep neural network model of the axisymmetric vector nozzle is established according to the limited training data from the physical dynamic model and then used to predict the kinematics and dynamics response of the axisymmetric vector nozzle. This study analyses the effects of joint clearance on the kinematics and dynamics of the axisymmetric vector nozzle mechanism by a data-driven model. It is found that the angular acceleration of the expanding blade and the driving force are mostly affected by joint clearance followed by the angle, angular velocity and position of the expanding blade. Larger joint clearance results in more pronounced fluctuations of the dynamic response of the mechanism, which is due to the greater relative velocity and contact force between the bushing and the pin. Since axisymmetric vector nozzles are highly complex nonlinear systems, traditional numerical methods of dynamics are extremely time-consuming. Our work indicates that the data-driven approach greatly reduces the computational cost while maintaining accuracy, and can be used for rapid evaluation and iterative computation of complex multibody dynamics of engine nozzle mechanism.
The high-altitude balloon proposed in this paper is a long-life balloon carrying a payload through a cable that flies at 20km altitude in near space. A dynamic model of the system, including the thermodynamics of the buoyancy body coupled with a hanging model of the pod, is developed using the Newton–Euler method. The buoyancy body consists of a helium balloon and a ballonet. A differential pressure difference-based altitude adjustment is achieved by tracking the pressure difference at the target altitude. A dynamic simulation of the buoyancy body with a slung pod in autonomous vertical takeoff and altitude regulation processes is presented. The internal thermodynamic variations and pressure differential of the buoyancy body are given. The air mass exchange and blower flow control of the ballonet are validated. The altitude holding error is analysed. The maximum pull force that the cable can withstand is calculated, and the maximum attitude angles of the pod during the ascending and descending processes are depicted. Simulation results provide basic knowledge for the structural design and payload installation of pods.
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a global health burden, more prevalent among individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) compared to the general population. To extend the knowledge base on how ADHD links to T2D, this study aimed to estimate causal effects of ADHD on T2D and to explore mediating pathways.
Methods
We applied a two-step, two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) design, using single nucleotide polymorphisms to genetically predict ADHD and a range of potential mediators. First, a wide range of univariable MR methods was used to investigate associations between genetically predicted ADHD and T2D, and between ADHD and the purported mediators: body mass index (BMI), childhood obesity, childhood BMI, sedentary behaviour (daily hours of TV watching), blood pressure (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure), C-reactive protein and educational attainment (EA). A mixture-of-experts method was then applied to select the MR method most likely to return a reliable estimate. We used estimates derived from multivariable MR to estimate indirect effects of ADHD on T2D through mediators.
Results
Genetically predicted ADHD liability associated with 10% higher odds of T2D (OR: 1.10; 95% CI: 1.02, 1.18). From nine purported mediators studied, three showed significant individual mediation effects: EA (39.44% mediation; 95% CI: 29.00%, 49.73%), BMI (44.23% mediation; 95% CI: 34.34%, 52.03%) and TV watching (44.10% mediation; 95% CI: 30.76%, 57.80%). The combination of BMI and EA explained the largest mediating effect (53.31%, 95% CI: −1.99%, 110.38%) of the ADHD–T2D association.
Conclusions
These findings suggest a potentially causal, positive relationship between ADHD liability and T2D, with mediation through higher BMI, more TV watching and lower EA. Intervention on these factors may thus have beneficial effects on T2D risk in individuals with ADHD.
With the rapid expansion of the aviation industry, an increasing number of Close Spaced Parallel Runway (CSPR) airports are either planning or constructing End Around Taxiways (EAT) to alleviate field operation pressures and enhance safety. Taking Shanghai Hongqiao Airport’s typical CSPR EAT configuration as a case study, this research integrates the airport’s current operational status with the anticipated requirements for future structural renovations and increased flight volumes. Various operational scenarios are established, and simulation research on optimising EAT operations is conducted in advance. The simulation study proceeds as follows: first, an AirTOP simulation model is constructed based on Hongqiao Airport’s actual operational construction. Subsequently, leveraging existing operational scenarios, five simulation scenarios are devised by activating EATs at the departure and approach ends of the eastern zone. The merits and drawbacks of these scenarios are thoroughly analysed. The findings indicate that, with escalating flight volumes, the utilisation of EAT for larger aircraft can curtail their holding duration by nearly 8 min, consequently reducing overall arrival holding duration by 6 min. Departures from gates proximate to T1 experience a 3-min reduction in holding duration through the adoption of EAT at the approach end. Despite an increase in taxi distance due to a higher proportion of aircraft taxiing around, the overall taxi time is diminished. Activating EATs at the departure and approach ends of the eastern zone effectively mitigates the adverse effects of heightened flight volumes on field operational efficiency.
Background: Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a rare cause of stroke, with 10–15% of patients experiencing dependence or death. The role of endovascular therapy (EVT) in the management of CVT remains controversial and practice patterns are not well-known. Methods: We distributed a comprehensive 53-question survey to neurologists, neuro-interventionalists, neurosurgeons and other relevant clinicians globally from May 2023 to October 2023. The survey asked about practice patterns and perspectives on EVT for CVT and assessed opinions regarding future clinical trials. Results: The overall response rate was 31% (863 respondents from 2744 invited participants) across 61 countries. A majority (74%) supported use of EVT for certain CVT cases. Key considerations for EVT included worsening level of consciousness (86%) and other clinical deficits (76%). Mechanical thrombectomy with aspiration (22%) and stent retriever (19%) were the most utilized techniques, with regional variations. Post-procedurally, low molecular weight heparin was the predominant anticoagulant administered (40%), although North American respondents favored unfractionated heparin. Most respondents supported future trials of EVT (90%). Conclusions: Our survey reveals significant heterogeneity in approaches to EVT for CVT, highlighting the necessity for adequately powered clinical trials to guide standard-of-care practices.
The status of the genera Euparagonimus Chen, 1963 and Pagumogonimus Chen, 1963 relative to Paragonimus Braun, 1899 was investigated using DNA sequences from the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (CO1) gene (partial) and the nuclear ribosomal DNA second internal transcribed spacer (ITS2). In the phylogenetic trees constructed, the genus Pagumogonimus is clearly not monophyletic and therefore not a natural taxon. Indeed, the type species of Pagumogonimus,P. skrjabini from China, is very closely related to Paragonimusmiyazakii from Japan. The status of Euparagonimus is less obvious. Euparagonimus cenocopiosus lies distant from other lungflukes included in the analysis. It can be placed as sister to Paragonimus in some analyses and falls within the genus in others. A recently published morphological study placed E. cenocopiosus within the genus Paragonimus and probably this is where it should remain.
Designing a reasonable M/G/1 retrial queue system that enhances service efficiency and reduces energy consumption is a challenging issue in Information and Communication Technology systems. This paper presents an M/G/1 retrial queue system incorporating random working vacation (RWV) and improved service efficiency during vacation (ISEV) policies, and examines its optimal queuing strategies. The RWV policy suggests that the server takes random working vacations during reserved idle periods, effectively reducing energy consumption. In contrast, the ISEV policy strives to augment service efficiency during regular working periods by updating, inspecting or maintaining the server on vacations. The system is transformed into a Cauchy problem to investigate its well-posedness and stability, employing operator semigroup theory. Based on the system’s stability, steady-state performance measures, such as service efficiency, energy consumption and expected costs, are quantified using the steady-state solution. The paper subsequently demonstrates the existence of optimal queuing strategies that achieve maximum efficiency and minimum expected costs. Finally, two numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the system.
Polarized electron beam production via laser wakefield acceleration in pre-polarized plasma is investigated by particle-in-cell simulations. The evolution of the electron beam polarization is studied based on the Thomas–Bargmann–Michel–Telegdi equation for the transverse and longitudinal self-injection, and the depolarization process is found to be influenced by the injection schemes. In the case of transverse self-injection, as found typically in the bubble regime, the spin precession of the accelerated electrons is mainly influenced by the wakefield. However, in the case of longitudinal injection in the quasi-1D regime (for example, F. Y. Li et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 135002 (2013)), the direction of electron spin oscillates in the laser field. Since the electrons move around the laser axis, the net influence of the laser field is nearly zero and the contribution of the wakefield can be ignored. Finally, an ultra-short electron beam with polarization of $99\%$ can be obtained using longitudinal self-injection.
Echinococcosis poses a significant threat to public health. The Chinese government has implemented prevention and control measures to mitigate the impact of the disease. By analyzing data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, we found that implementation of these measures has reduced the infection rate by nearly 50% between 2004 to 2022 (from 0.3975 to 0.1944 per 100,000 person-years). Nonetheless, some regions still bear a significant disease burden, and lack of detailed information limites further evaluation of the effects on both alveolar and cystic echinococcosis. Our analysis supports the continuing implementation of these measures and suggests that enhanced wildlife management, case-based strategies, and surveillance systems will facilitate disease control.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have recently been widely applied in a comprehensive realm. By enhancing computer photography and artificial intelligence, UAVs can automatically discriminate against environmental objectives and detect events that occur in the real scene. The application of collaborative UAVs will offer diverse interpretations which support a multiperspective view of the scene. Due to the diverse interpretations of UAVs usually deviating, UAVs require a consensus interpretation for the scenario. This study presents an original consensus-based method to pilot multi-UAV systems for achieving consensus on their observation as well as constructing a group situation-based depiction of the scenario. Taylor series are used to describe the fuzzy nonlinear plant and derive the stability analysis using polynomial functions, which have the representations $V(x )={m_{\textrm{1} \le l \le N}}({{V_\textrm{l}}(x )} )$ and ${V_l}(x )={x^T}{P_l}(x )x$. Due to the fact that the ${\dot{P}_l}(x )$ in ${\dot{V}_l}(x )={\dot{x}^T}{P_l}(x )x + {x^T}{\dot{P}_l}(x )x + {x^T}{P_l}(x )\dot{x}$ will yield intricate terms to ensure a stability criterion, we aim to avoid these kinds of issues by proposing a polynomial homogeneous framework and using Euler's functions for homogeneous systems. First, this method permits each UAV to establish high-level conditions from the probed events via a fuzzy-based aggregation event. The evaluated consensus indicates how suitable is the scenario collective interpretation for every UAV perspective.
There has been limited research on clay mineral transformation in serpentinitic soils under humid tropical conditions. In this study, four soil pedons were selected along a toposequence from the summit (Entisol), shoulder (Vertisol), backslope (Alfisol) to footslope (Ultisol) positions to explore the contributions and the significance of landscape and weathering status of serpentinitic rock with regard to clay mineral transformations in eastern Taiwan. Experimental results indicated that the large amount of dithionite-citrate-bicarbonate-extractable Fe (Fed) and clay in the subsurface horizon were mainly caused by the strong leaching potential from intensive rainfall and weathering of the fine-grained parent rocks. The clay mineralogy reflected the clear weathering trend of the soils along the toposequence: (1) the soils on the summit and shoulder contained smectite and serpentine, which are predominant in the young soils derived from serpentinitic rocks; and (2) vermiculite gradually increased in the relatively old soils on backslope and footslope. The mineralogical transformations observed along the toposequence indicated that chlorite and serpentine, initially present in the Entisol on the summit, weather into smectite and interstratified chlorite-vermiculite in the intermediate soil on the shoulder under strong leaching and oxidizing conditions. Furthermore, vermiculite formed as the major weathering product of chlorite and smectite in the soil developed on the backslope. In addition to vermiculite, kaolinite and quartz formed in the soils on the footslope with the greatest concentration of Fed along the toposequence.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been associated with cognitive deficits as evidenced by neuropsychological testing in the domains of attention/working memory, verbal memory, processing speed, and executive function. OSA is often comorbid with hypertension and has been considered a risk factor for hypertension (Kareem et al., 2018; Tietjens et al., 2019). Both hypertension and OSA have been shown to be independent predictors of memory (Kinoshita et al., 2012). OSA and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are also frequently co-occurring, especially among veterans. In a group of veterans with a history of PTSD, we seek to explore the effects of sleep apnea and hypertension on cognitive functioning, particularly auditory learning/memory.
Participants and Methods:
One hundred and three male and female participants with comorbid OSA and PTSD symptomology were screened as part of a larger VA Palo Alto Health Care System study. Participants (age: x=56.3, a=13.8, 24-81 years; education: x=14.6, a=2.3, 8-20 years; 9.6% female, 89.6% male) completed a neuropsychological battery, including the CVLT-II and WMS-IV Logical Memory. Presence or absence of hypertension was dichotomously coded and AHI severity was categorically coded. An auditory learning/memory composite variable was created using the z-score transformation method (Dodge et al., 2020). Variables and covariates were entered into a hierarchical regression.
Results:
The initial regression model revealed hypertension and OSA severity to be independent predictors of performance on auditory learning/memory (hypertension: ß= -0.71, p<0.01; OSA: ß= -0.42, p<0.01), where presence of hypertension or increased severity of OSA resulted in worse performance on the auditory learning/memory composite.
Conclusions:
Results suggest that hypertension and OSA may independently and negatively affect performance on measures of auditory learning/memory in veterans with PTSD symptomology and OSA. Such findings underscore the importance of assessing and treating both hypertension and OSA among veterans with PTSD to improve not only physical health, but also cognitive health. Further research demonstrating similar findings is recommended along with studies investigating whether or not the treatment of hypertension and OSA can improve auditory learning/memory.
This article investigates the impact of male migration on left-behind women in nineteenth-century Chongqing, focusing on the intersection among gender, migration, and religion. It analyze the unintended consequences of failed male migration, in which the husband's failure to send regular remittances was prone to cause tremendous anxiety and financial difficulties for his wife. In the absence of strong male-centered kinship organizations, Chongqingese women exploited unorthodox options to support themselves. Buddhist monasticism proved appealing because it provided both a stable source of livelihood and an inclusive all-female space. However, female renunciation was controversial because it challenged state-sponsored patriarchal values. Returned husbands enlisted the state's help in revoking their wives' religious decisions. Paradoxically, for vulnerable women like concubines, nunhood proved an attractive option because it helped them obtain migration-triggered divorces on favorable terms. They strategically synergized the bodily practice of monastic celibacy with the discourse of female chastity to assure their estranged spouses of lifelong commitments to non-remarriage. By doing so, these women succeeded in receiving generous financial compensation. This study highlights how the combination of religion and translocality enabled women to renegotiate their positionality within the patriarchy.
Of 731 restricted antimicrobial prescriptions subject to antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) prospective audit and feedback (PAF) over a 3-year period, 598 PAF recommendations (82%) were fully accepted. Physician auditors had an increased odds of PAF recommendation acceptance, reinforcing the complementary role of the ASP physician in the multidisciplinary ASP team.
Most mental disorders, when examined individually, are associated with an increased risk of cardiometabolic complications. However, these associations might be attributed to a general liability toward psychopathology or confounded by unmeasured familial factors.
Objectives
To examine whether the associations between psychiatric diagnoses and increased risk of cardiometabolic complications are attributable to a general liability toward psychopathology, or confounded by unmeasured familial factors.
Methods
We conducted a cohort study in Sweden and identified all individuals and their siblings born in Sweden 1955-1962 with follow-up through 2013. After excluding individuals who died or emigrated before 1987, the final sample consisted 672 823 individuals. We extracted ICD-coded diagnoses (recorded 1973-1987) for ten psychiatric conditions and criminal convictions when participants were aged 18-25 years, and ICD-coded diagnoses (recorded 1987-2013) for five cardiometabolic complications (obesity, hypertensive diseases, hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular diseases) when the participants were 51-58 years old. Logistic regression models were used to estimate the bivariate associations between psychiatric conditions or criminal convictions and cardiometabolic complications in individuals. A general factor model was used to identify general, internalizing, externalizing, and psychotic factors based on the psychiatric conditions and criminal convictions. We then regressed the cardiometabolic complications on the latent general factor and three uncorrelated specific factors within a structural equation modeling framework in individuals and across sibling pairs.
Results
Each psychiatric conditions significantly increased the risk of cardiometabolic complications; however, most of these associations were attributable to the general factor of psychopathology, rather than to specific psychiatric conditions. There were no or only small associations between individuals’ general psychopathology and their siblings’ cardiometabolic complications, suggesting that the associations were not attributable to genetic or environmental confounding factors shared within families. The same pattern was evident for the specific internalizing and psychotic factors.
Conclusions
Individuals with mental disorders in early life had an increased long term risk of cardiometabolic complications, which appeared attributable to a general liability toward psychopathology. Sibling analyses suggested that the elevated risk could not be attributed to confounds shared within families.This highlights the importance of transdiagnostic and lifestyle based interventions to reduce the risk of cardiometabolic complications, particularly in patients with several mental disorders.
We examined the effect of an antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP), procalcitonin testing and rapid blood-culture identification on hospital mortality in a prospective quality improvement project in critically ill septic adults. Secondarily, we have reported antimicrobial guideline concordance, acceptance of ASP interventions, and antimicrobial and health-resource utilization.
