This paper mainly concerns the KAM persistence of the mapping $\mathscr {F}:\mathbb {T}^{n}\times E\rightarrow \mathbb {T}^{n}\times \mathbb {R}^{n}$ with intersection property, where $E\subset \mathbb {R}^{n}$ is a connected closed bounded domain with interior points. By assuming that the frequency mapping satisfies certain topological degree condition and weak convexity condition, we prove some Moser-type results about the invariant torus of mapping $\mathscr {F}$ with frequency-preserving under small perturbations. To our knowledge, this is the first approach to Moser's theorem with frequency-preserving. Moreover, given perturbed mappings over $\mathbb {T}^n$, it is shown that such persistence still holds when the frequency mapping and perturbations are only continuous about parameter beyond Lipschitz or even Hölder type. We also touch the parameter without dimension limitation problem under such settings.

The Eastern Depression in the Bayanhaote Basin in western Inner Mongolia has experienced multi-stage Meso-Cenozoic tectonic events and possesses considerable exploration potential. However, structural deformation patterns, sequences and the genesis of oil-bearing structures in the basin are still poorly understood. In this study, based on high-quality 2D seismic data and drilling and well-logging data, we elucidate the activities and structural styles of faults, the tectonic evolution and the distribution characteristics of styles, as well as assessing potential petroleum traps in the Eastern Depression. Five types of faults that were active at different stages of the Meso-Cenozoic faults have been recognized: long-lived normal faults active since the late Middle Jurassic; reverse faults and strike-slip faults active in the late Late Jurassic; normal faults active in the Early Cretaceous; normal faults active in the Oligocene; and negative inverted faults active in the Early Cretaceous and Oligocene. These faults constituted 12 geometric styles in NE-trending belts at various stratigraphic levels, and were formed by compression, strike-slip, extension and inversion. The temporal development of structural styles promoted the formation and reconstruction and finalization of structural traps, while regional unconformities and open reverse and strike-slip faults provided migration pathways for petroleum to fill the traps. In general, potential traps that formed by compressional movement and strike-slip movement in the late Late Jurassic are primarily faulted anticlines. Those traps developed in Carboniferous rocks and are located in the southwestern region of the Eastern Depression, being controlled by NNE-NE-striking reverse and transpressive faults.

We consider a two-stage submodular maximization problem subject to a cardinality constraint and k matroid constraints, where the objective function is the expected difference of a nonnegative monotone submodular function and a nonnegative monotone modular function. We give two bi-factor approximation algorithms for this problem. The first is a deterministic $\left( {{1 \over {k + 1}}\left( {1 - {1 \over {{e^{k + 1}}}}} \right),1} \right)$-approximation algorithm, and the second is a randomized $\left( {{1 \over {k + 1}}\left( {1 - {1 \over {{e^{k + 1}}}}} \right) - \varepsilon ,1} \right)$-approximation algorithm with improved time efficiency.

Flaxseed oil is rich in α-linolenic acid (ALA), which is the metabolic precursor of EPA and DHA. The present study investigated the effect of flaxseed oil supplementation on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced muscle atrophy and carbohydrate oxidation impairment in a piglet model. Twenty-four weaned pigs were used in a 2 × 2 factorial experiment including dietary treatment (5 % maize oil v. 5 % flaxseed oil) and LPS challenge (saline v. LPS). On day 21 of treatment, the pigs were injected intraperitoneally with 100 μg/kg body weight LPS or sterile saline. At 4 h after injection, blood, gastrocnemius muscle and longissimus dorsi muscle were collected. Flaxseed oil supplementation increased ALA, EPA, total n-3 PUFA contents, protein:DNA ratio and pyruvate dehydrogenase complex quantity in muscles (P < 0·05). In addition, flaxseed oil reduced mRNA expression of toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 and nucleotide-binding oligomerisation domain protein (NOD) 2 and their downstream signalling molecules in muscles and decreased plasma concentrations of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8, and mRNA expression of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 (P < 0·05). Moreover, flaxseed oil inclusion increased the ratios of phosphorylated protein kinase B (Akt) 1:total Akt1 and phosphorylated Forkhead box O (FOXO) 1:total FOXO1 and reduced mRNA expression of FOXO1, muscle RING finger (MuRF) 1 and pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 in muscles (P < 0·05). These results suggest that flaxseed oil might have a positive effect on alleviating muscle protein loss and carbohydrates oxidation impairment induced by LPS challenge through regulation of the TLR4/NOD and Akt/FOXO signalling pathways.

Geoffrey Robinson conjectured in 1996 that the $p$-part of character degrees in a $p$-block of a finite group can be bounded in terms of the center of a defect group of the block. We prove this conjecture for all primes $p\neq 2$ for all finite groups. Our argument relies on a reduction by Murai to the case of quasi-simple groups which are then studied using deep results on blocks of finite reductive groups.

Dairy cows with ketosis display severe oxidative stress as well as high blood concentrations of non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) and β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB). Cytochrome P4502E1 (CYP2E1) plays an important role in the induction of oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate CYP2E1 expression and activity in the liver of clinically ketotic cows (in vivo) and the effects of NEFA and BHB on CYP2E1 expression and activity in hepatocytes (in vitro). Dairy cows with clinical ketosis exhibited a low blood concentration of glucose but high concentrations of NEFA and BHB. Hepatic mRNA, protein expression, and activity of CYP2E1 were significantly higher in cows with clinical ketosis than in control cows. In vitro, both NEFA and BHB treatment markedly up-regulated the mRNA and protein expressions as well as activity of CYP2E1 in cow hepatocytes. Taken together, these results indicate that high levels of NEFA and BHB significantly up-regulate the expression and activity of hepatic CYP2E1, and may be influential in the induction of oxidative stress in cows with clinical ketosis.

Dairy cows with fatty liver or ketosis exhibit hyperketonemia, oxidative stress, and a low rate of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) assembly, and there may be a potential link among these characteristics. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the effect of acetoacetic acid (AcAc) on the assembly of VLDL in cow hepatocytes. Cultured cow hepatocytes were treated with different concentrations of AcAc with or without N-acetylcysteine (NAC, an antioxidant). AcAc treatment decreased the mRNA expression and activities of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and significantly increased malondialdehyde (MDA) content, indicative of oxidative stress. Furthermore, AcAc treatment significantly down-regulated the mRNA expression of apolipoprotein B100 (ApoB100), apolipoprotein E (ApoE), and low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), which thus decreased VLDL assembly and increased triglyceride (TG) accumulation in these bovine hepatocytes. Importantly, NAC relieved AcAc-induced oxidative stress and increased VLDL assembly. In summary, these results suggest that AcAc-induced oxidative stress affects the assembly of VLDL, which increases TG accumulation in bovine hepatocytes.

The Tianshan orogen is divided into the Northern, Central and Southern Tianshan tectonic zones by the northern and southern sutures on both sides of the Central Tianshan Tectonic Zone. The eastern segment of the Central Tianshan Tectonic Zone is characterized by the presence of numerous Precambrian metamorphic blocks and is unconformably overlain by Ordovician–Silurian and late Palaeozoic strata. The Precambrian Kumishi and Pargantag metamorphic blocks are the largest older blocks in the eastern segment of the Central Tianshan Tectonic Zone, consisting mainly of metamorphic granitoids and sedimentary rocks in greenschist to amphibolite facies. There are two major lithological assemblages of the metamorphic granitoids: (1) quartz dioritic gneisses, and (2) granodioritic–monzogranitic gneisses with a minor amount of tonalitic and syenogranitic gneisses in both the Kumishi and Pargantag blocks. The quartz dioritic gneisses are characterized by low Sr/Ce (<5.3) and Sr/Y (<28), relatively high Mg no. (51.0–57.0), K2O (2.65–4.04 wt %) contents and εNd(t) values (−2.37–5.84), and negative Nb and Zr–Hf anomalies, as well as relatively flat chondrite-normalized REE patterns with slightly negative Eu anomalies, suggesting that the quartz dioritic gneisses were derived from partial melting of a depleted mantle source enriched by fluids and sedimentary melts from the subducted slab. However, most of granitic gneiss samples display high K2O contents, low Al2O3/(FeO* + MgO + TiO2) values, and relatively flat chondrite-normalized REE patterns with intensively negative Eu anomalies. Integrated low εNd(t) values and older TDM model ages suggest that crustal materials played a significant role in the petrogenesis of these granitoid gneisses and that they were mainly derived from the partial melting of calc-alkaline mafic to intermediate rocks in the crust. Also, variations in geochemical features between the Kumishi–Gangou and Pargantag regions, such as Zr and Hf, may reflect geographic variability in the development of coeval granitic magmas. Tectonic discrimination for granitoid, using trace elements, together with Nd isotopic data, demonstrates that these granitoid gneisses in the eastern segment of the Central Tianshan Tectonic Zone formed in a continental margin arc during late Mesoproterozoic times.

In this paper, we report a facile route, the tin vapor treatment method, to prepare tin oxide containing mesoporous silica composites (TOMS), which display room-temperature photoluminescence (RT-PL). Among them, TOMS-1 and TOMS-2 were synthesized from mesoporous silica SBA-15 and KIT-6, respectively. They are composed of amorphous SiO2 and tin oxide species and they display strong emission near ultraviolet (UV) when excited by UV light. By increasing the preparation temperature, their Sn content can be increased and subsequently their photoluminescence (PL) intensities can be greatly enhanced. Besides, their PL properties are revealed to be closely related to 2-fold-coordinated tin oxygen-deficient centers.

We present a new approach to engineer the band structure of carbon nanotube field-effect transistors via selected area chemical gating. By exposing the center part or the contacts of the nanotube devices to oxidizing or reducing gases, a good control over the threshold voltage and subthreshold swing has been achieved. Our experiments reveal that NO2 shifts the threshold voltage higher while NH3 shifts it lower for both center-exposed and contact-exposed devices. However, modulations to the subthreshold swing are in opposite directions for center-exposed and contact-exposed devices: NO2 lowers the subthreshold swing of the contact-exposed devices, but increases that of the center-exposed devices; In contrast, NH3 reduces the subthreshold swing of the center-exposed devices, but increases that of the contact-exposed devices. A model has been developed based on Langmuir isotherm, and the experimental results can be well explained.
