Breathing life into your classes – the perks of being creative

Creativity is one of the Four Cs and an important skill for students to develop. Likewise, being creative is an important part of teaching – we adapt content to different teaching scenarios and learning needs. It’s more than simply generating new ideas – being creative implies the use of available resources within a given amount of time, in order to reach very specific goals.

These new/original ideas must be valuable, and should be used as tools that will help students achieve their goals. As a result, we enhance opportunities for meaningful, relevant use of language. These ideas can be generated by a reference book you have read, a successful activity you have tried or even a game you have played with friends.

During this session, we look at some sample activities from the Interchange series (be it for vocabulary and grammar practice or reading strategies). We will see how we can adapt the content to a variety of situations (from virtual to face-to-face classes), taking into consideration several aspects of teaching including class planning, patterns of interaction and skills development.

This presentation is part of our Flexible materials for changing times: teaching and learning with Interchange series. Find out more information and watch the other presentations.
