Combining Exams and Life Skills – with Olha Madylus
As teachers of English, we may often feel torn about what the aims of our courses are. Are we, teaching English, preparing our students to pass important exams or helping them develop important life and work skills in a world where using English has become a necessary skill?
This webinar explores what exactly these life skills are, examining skills such as collaboration, emotional skills and social responsibility. And crucially investigates how we merge language development and exam preparation with the development of these skills.
Tasks that encourage students to use critical thinking and put language into meaningful contexts where it is used for authentic purposes is not only motivating, but also helps students to use English in a variety of authentic situations and prepare to better address exam questions and respond with English that is nuanced and ultimately get good exam marks.
A number of practical examples will be presented and analysed.
