Enabling Learners to Assess and Progress!

Enabling Learners to Assess and Progress!

Date: Tuesday 13 October

Time: 15:00

Nowadays it is generally considered useful for learners to be self-aware and autonomous, to understand their own progress. This is based on the principle that in order to achieve progression, learners need to understand where they have weaknesses that require attention. But how do we help them do this? Indeed how can we, as teachers, measure their progress at task and course level in effective and practical ways ourselves? After all we also have to set up activities, prepare materials and manage the logistics of teaching as part of a busy timetable. How do we find time to do this as well and how important is it?! This webinar looks at the benefits of self and peer assessment, of formative assessment as part of a learning oriented cycle, and suggests some practical classroom techniques you can employ to do this and help your learners both assess and progress to become more independent.

Stephanie Dimond-Bayir is a lecturer and teacher trainer at Anglia Ruskin University, and has considerable experience as a writer of teaching materials and as a trainer.
