Super grammar: Making practice perfect for young learners

Super grammar: Making practice perfect for young learners

Date: Tuesday 6 December

Time: 15:00

Grammar teaching in Primary classrooms often starts with the presentation of a new grammatical form, and ends with students producing this form in a freer activity or task. In between these stages, students practice the form so that they can remember it and start to use it automatically. In this webinar, Colin Sage zooms in on this practice stage, arguing that it is often neglected in teacher training and rushed-through in teaching practice. He suggests that the objectives of this stage are too complex to be achieved by a single activity and, instead, proposes dividing practice into sub-stages. He goes on to offer practical suggestions about how to build these sub-stages into a teaching sequence for young learners and give tips for bringing an example sequence to life.

Colin Sage is an ELT author, editor and teacher-trainer who specialises in Primary and pre-Primary learning. Colin has an MA in TEFL/TESL from the University of Birmingham and has taught English to young learners in South Korea, Germany and Vietnam. He also worked on ELT courses including Super Safari and Kid’s Box.
