Edited by David Norton, this important scholarly edition presents a revised KJV text based on a thorough evaluation of textual variants in current renderings as well as the extant notes of the 1611 Translators. The text itself is presented in paragraph form, with marginal notes, and adopts modern conventions of spelling and punctuation to make it easy to read and use. The New Cambridge Paragraph Bible was originally published in 2005 in a large format and, like the original King James Bible and successive editions until the nineteenth century, included the Apocrypha. As it has become known in the marketplace, a demand has become apparent for this Bible in a smaller, more manageable format. Its is therefore now being issued in Personal Size editions, either with or without the Apocrypha. This particular Bible contains just the Old and New Testaments. It is printed on Bible paper, has gold page-edges and two ribbon markers, and is bound in black calfskin leather.

I decided to review my brand new Cambridge Paragraph KJV Bible (Personal size). I actually ordered my copy through Book Depository and it was posted from the UK. Good things first: the size of the Bible is excellent. Litter bit bigger compared with the Clarion but thinner. I love the Calfskin leather cover more than the goatskin on my Clarion. It just feels so silky and soft to touch and smells so beautiful. To me this size Bible is very handy size although the type setting could have been 9 instead of 8 print fonts. The book size compared with the Clarion would allow it to be slightly bigger in font size and therefore it would have been more readable. I wish it was semi-bold type as well. I am not saying that it cannot be read. But it would have been more efficient like the Cameo KJV that I bought for my son. That is just about the same font in size but bold and therefore I can read it even in not so much light. It would be wonderful to have a KJ, single column, Paragraph Bible that is more readable like the small Cameo with the same or slightly larger print size for that much money. This Bible has NO art gilding on but Gold. I will put red under gold on the book myself, as soon as the ink arrives. But for the cost of this expensive Bible it would have been a nice addition. Negatives: My Bible arrived with all the pages glued together with the gold gild. I set down with this Bible for 3 hours to separate all the pages, before I was able to open the Bible out flat. The gold gild on the edges of the pages, where it was stuck together before, its looks faint in gold and exposed now. Disappointing really, that whole ordeal I went through with this Bible so far. Two black ribbon instead of the red on the picture. But that is fine. But what is not so fine is that, one of the ribbons is twisted around and fitted in that way, plus the other one is 4 cm longer and with choppy cut on both. Is it possible that because it was done in Italy by L.E.G.O. that this workmanship is so low grade? Bible paper is not Clarion or Cameo standard. It's feels like fine tissue paper. Ghosting is terrible on some of the pages especially in Habakkuk and in the prophetic books. Again, for the price I paid for it, I feel reaped off. It is not Cambridge standard at all and it is very disappointing that this otherwise terrific Bible is ruined and I have to put my special touch on it to make up for it. Nevertheless, I have decided to keep it. I realized, that even if I returned it to get other copy, chances are the same that it'll have all or some of the infirmities as this one. all have been done in Italy and not in the Netherlands like the Clarion or the Cameo. Final thoughts: Pretty much this is my ideal single column KJV Bible on the market today with all the good staff from David Norton on the inside and plenty of space to write my own note in the margins. I love the leather feels and after I put red the art gilt on, it'll be perfect enough for me apart from the ghosting and fainting prints.

“Like dancing on a path of stepping stones…” READING THE NEW CAMBRIDGE PARAGRAPH BIBLE (NCPB) ALOUD, by Paul Klenk As a basic part of my daily Bible study, I read lengthy passages aloud, for intelligibility, and often record myself on iPhone Voice Memos. It has greatly helped me understand challenging Bible passages. Last night I ready approx. 15 Psalms from the NCPB, my new personal size calfskin edition. It was quite an experience! I aim for a natural, just *slightly* heightened conversational voice. It’s a challenge to deftly speak through the 1611 King James text so it sounds like a native speaker easily tripping it off the tongue. My goal is, to master the actual speaking of this 1611 writing so that someone overhearing it, as an overheard real conversation, would completely understand what I am talking about, and correctly infer the meanings of the few arcane words they do not know, from the context and the voice inflection. And wow, is it worth it! It Plowing through the New Cambridge Paragraph in this way results in a very dramatic reading, due to the way words are emphasized through placement in the syntax by the original translators (often curated by David Norton). Really, it’s like a window into biblical interpretation through the physical mechanics of speech, enunciation, cadence and timing as the reader navigates word order, like dancing on a path of stepping stones. I’m beginning to see for the first time the *true brilliance* of the 1611 King James Version bible as a magnificent translation of God’s word. I highly recommend! (c) 2022 Paul Klenk
