Press author honored by the National Academy of Sciences

The National Academy of Sciences announced Press author Adriana Galván is a winner of the 2019 Troland Research Award, given annually to recognize achievement by young researchers.

She joins 17 other members of the scientific community recognized for their extraordinary achievements in a wide range of fields.

Galván was honored for her “pioneering work studying adolescent brain development and behavior,” and will receive a $75,000 prize to support her research.

Her first book, The Neuroscience of Adolescence, was published by the Press in 2017.

“Collectively, Galván’s groundbreaking work has challenged and changed our perception of adolescent development and has, in just over a dozen years, had tremendous impact on science, law and social policy,” the prize announcement noted.

The National Academy of Sciences is a private, nonprofit institution that recognizes achievement in science by election to membership, and—with the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Medicine—provides science, engineering, and health policy advice to the United States government and other organizations.
