University of Cambridge Language Sciences
Cambridge University Press was first granted permission to publish books in 1534, making it the oldest publishing house in the world. Our purpose is to further the mission of the University by sharing knowledge in the pursuit of education, learning and research.
The English Language Teaching department of the Press works in partnership with Cambridge English Language Assessment to share expertise and strengthen the link between language education and language assessment. Together as Cambridge English, we share one of the largest language research teams in the world. It’s this unique combination of knowledge that puts Cambridge English at the heart of innovation in learning.Â
The language research team at Cambridge English also contributes to the University’s Language Sciences Initiative. The Language Sciences Initiative is a diverse group of research teams that aims to find new ways of understanding how humans use and learn language. It also means that our author and editorial teams have access to a much wider range of research disciplines to inform our publishing.
