Cambridge University Press and the Open University are excited to announce the forthcoming launch of the first digital teaching package specifically created for undergraduate laboratory classes in Mineralogy and Petrology, including a virtual petrological microscope with most of the functionality of a real microscope. The package comes with over 100 high resolution virtual rock samples and thin sections from a suite of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Pedagogical materials, including short tutorial videos, screencasts and on-line practical assessments using the Virtual Microscope, will be arranged in an engaging 10-week course, making this an essential resource for students wanting to develop their skills independently and for lecturers to use for in-class demonstrations, student activities and homework exercises.
