Building on Learners' World Knowledge

Building on Learners' World Knowledge

Date: Tuesday 27 October

Time: 15:00

Learners’ world knowledge can affect their language skills, both in negative and positive ways. Sabina will share some practical ideas on how teachers might explore their learners’ world knowledge to support their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

Sabina Ostrowska has worked as an English teacher in Poland, Sweden, and the UAE and is currently Senior Lecturer in English at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi. She has worked as a freelance writer and material developer for online English learning websites and has written a coursebook for Polish EFL learners. She has presented conference papers on topics related to the teaching of academic skills, as well as using technology to foster learner autonomy in learning English. Her academic publications examine issues of teaching English to Arabic L1 speakers. Sabina is currently in the final stage of her doctoral studies in TESOL at the University of Exeter.
