Helping students improve their pronunciation for the IELTS Speaking test

Helping students improve their pronunciation for the IELTS Speaking test

Thursday 21st March at 11am GMT

About the webinar

Pronunciation forms 25% of a candidate’s score for the IELTS Speaking test, yet this important speaking sub-skill often takes a back seat on IELTS courses. In this webinar, we will consider the aspects of pronunciation that are assessed in the IELTS Speaking test and possible pronunciation issues that candidates may face. We will then discuss ways of helping our students improve their pronunciation for the IELTS Speaking test and see an example of a practical classroom activity focusing on pronunciation for IELTS using materials from the MINDSET for IELTS series.

About the speaker

Lucy co-wrote MINDSET for IELTS Level 3 Teacher's Book and contributed units to the Foundation Level Student's Book. She began teaching English in 2002 in the UK and Spain, where she prepared young learners for Cambridge English exams. She has been a tutor of English for Academic Purposes since 2008, and has taught on IELTS preparation courses in addition to preparing international students to start degree courses at Brunel University and King’s College London. Lucy is currently based at King’s College London, where she teaches on Foundation Programmes for international students, provides in-sessional support in academic writing for current students and contributes to materials and course design.
