Cambridge University Press wins President’s Choice Award and two First Prizes at 2016 BMA Medical Book Awards
We are delighted to announce that three of our titles were honoured at this year’s BMA Medical Book Awards ceremony.
Presented by the prestigious British Medical Association, the awards aim to encourage and reward excellence in medical publishing, with prizes given out in 21 categories.
Chosen from all 684 submissions, Parental Psychiatric Disorder (3rd Edition) was announced as the winner of the highly coveted 'President's Choice Award'. Edited by Andrea Reupert, Darryl Maybery, Joanne Nicholson, Michael Göpfert and Mary V. Seeman, the publication presents innovative research and practice guidelines to prevent the intergenerational transmission of mental illness.
BMA past president Professor Sir Al Aynsley-Green Kt presented the award, congratulating the team for creating a publication that tackles a subject that is often overlooked:
‘This outstanding book is timely in addressing a neglected area in a comprehensive yet practical way. It should be mandatory reading for trainees and practitioners in all professional disciplines in mental health services and in primary care as well as in child health. I commend it unreservedly.’
Atlas of Surgical Techniques in Trauma won first prize in the Surgery category. The title, edited by Demetrios Demetriades, Kenji Inaba and George Velmahos, is the first atlas of surgical techniques in trauma, using hundreds of high-quality intra-operative photos of fresh human cadavers to create a realistic step-by-step guide to both common and uncommon procedures.
The final accolade was given to The Stahl Neuropsychopharmacology Masterclass: Antidepressants in the Digital and Online Resource category. With the editorial guidance of the University of Cambridge Department of Psychiatry and the Neuroscience Education Institute and endorsed by Cambridge University Health Partners, this online educational programme comprises interactive readings, short lectures, animations and case studies.
Speaking after the awards, Danny Bean Retail Marketing Manager - Science, Technology and Medicine at Cambridge University Press said:
“Our success in the 2016 BMA Book Awards is a testament to the effort of authors, editors and colleagues across the business. These awards are highly regarded and the different areas in which we triumphed reflect the diversity of talent and expertise we possess at Cambridge.”
