We are in the running for Academic and Professional Publisher of the year and for the annual Sustainability Award.

We have been shortlisted in two categories for this year’s Independent Publishing Awards.

Cambridge University Press & Assessment as a whole has been shortlisted for the Sustainability Award, while Cambridge University Press is in the running for Academic and Professional Publisher of the Year.

This is the third year in a row that we have been shortlisted for the Sustainability Award, having won it in each of its first two years. The judging panel liked the combination of what they called ‘big-picture work’, including a thorough analysis of the organisation’s carbon emissions, and colleague-driven sustainability projects.

The judges said: “They’ve got every base covered. Sustainability goes right through the business, and you get the impression they’re properly committed to improving in every area.”

When shortlisting for the Academic and Professional Publisher of the Year Award, the panel remarked on the innovative nature of Cambridge University Press, highlighting work to support shifts to digital learning, including the work done to help people study during the pandemic; progress on open access publishing; and the added strength that comes from the integration with Cambridge Assessment.

The prestigious awards are run by the Independent Publishers Guild (IPG) and recognize the remarkable success of the independent publishing sector.

IPG chief executive, Bridget Shine, said: “2021 was a remarkably successful year for the UK’s independent publishing sector despite all the ongoing upheaval.

“The standard of submissions to the Independent Publishing Awards was higher than it has ever been, and it is no surprise that our judges selected a record number of publishers and people for the shortlists. Together they show the brilliant resilience, innovation and diversity of UK publishing. We can’t wait to celebrate their achievements at our Awards lunch.”

The winners of all the Awards will be revealed at a special gala lunch at the OXO Tower in London at 12pm on Wednesday 27 April.
