Communicate with Cambridge is a comprehensive English course for classes 1–8. It aims to develop communication skills in students by integrating the essential language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The Literature Readers aim to open up the world of literature to young learners. They explore themes, storylines and characters and also sensitise readers to moral, emotional and narrative complexities. This experience spurs learners to engage with a variety of writing in an enjoyable way, and at the same time gets them to reflect on and analyse a text; broadening their worldviews in the process.
The selections includes stories, fables, myths, plays and poems in the lower classes, adapted suitably wherever needed; excerpts from the classics and contemporary literature in the higher classes; and stories from around the world as well as from India.
Introductions, wherever necessary, to give context and lead into the text.
Difficult words glossed in context to aid comprehension.
Questions to explore themes, characters, and plots, as well as to elicit personal responses in the form of discussions.
Vocabulary tasks designed to explore literal meanings and connotations as well as to help students learn new vocabulary and their use.
Writing tasks to initiate students into creative writing.
Introduction to literary terms and devices to enhance the enjoyment of literature.
