Cambridge University Press sees three of its titles nominated for ELTons in 2013

Cambridge University Press sees three of its titles nominated for ELTons in 2013

As we approach the annual British Council ELTons Awards ceremony, it's looking positive for Cambridge University Press.

The ELTons are the only international awards that recognise and celebrate innovation in English Language Teaching and this year, Cambridge University Press publishing has been shortlisted in three of the six categories.

First up is Super Minds, in the "Excellence in Course Innovation" category. Super Minds is a young learners course that aims to develop children's thinking skills along with their language skills. Written by an established group of authors, including Herbert Puchta, children are encouraged to use language creatively in activities such as project work, arts and crafts and visualisation exercises.

The second nomination, in the "Innovation in Learner Resources" category, is English Grammar in Use Online. Raymond Murphy's re-working of his hugely successful book, with additional content from Miles Craven and Brigit Viney, provides intermediate learners of English with a new way of accessing clear explanations of grammar points, along with interactive exercises to check their understanding.

The online version includes automatic marking, an interactive Study Guide to help learners decide which units to study and to track their progress, plus audio recordings of all the grammar explanations, so learners can listen to the explanations as well as read them.

The final Cambridge product to be shortlisted for an ELTon this year is Classroom Management Techniques, in the "Innovation in Teacher Resources" category. Jim Scrivener's book has been extremely well received by teachers and reviewers, and has already picked up two prestigious awards: the English-Speaking Union (ESU)'s HRH The Duke of Edinburgh English Language Book Award and the Ben Warren International House Trust Prize.

To get so much recognition at a high-profile international awards ceremony, and particularly one that focuses on innovation, is gratifying evidence that Cambridge continues to publish teaching and learning materials that are meeting the needs and expectations of the ELT community.

Winners will be announced on 22nd May so we're keeping our fingers crossed!
