From Writing to Composing

From Writing to Composing Second edition introduces high-beginner to low-intermediate students to the basics of formal writing in English.

This book employs a unique approach in which guided, structured writing activities interweave with freer, multi-draft composing activities. Each unit has a two-part structure. The first part of the book introduces different genres of writing and the key activity types of the book. The second part teaches how to write paragraphs using different modes of rhetorical organization, such as chronological organization to describe someone's daily routine, and enumeration to classify something into its different types. Throughout the book, students build a portfolio of their writing and produce projects that they publish as wall displays, a class newspaper, or a class website.

Key features

  • Units that teach different rhetorical patterns of paragraph organization.
  • Lively oral activities to engage student interest and dictation tasks to promote accurate paragraph building.
  • A self-study appendix for students to deepen their understanding of sentence and paragraph structure.
