Modern Trends in English Language Teaching and Assessment. International qualifications for English Language Learners and Teachers.

Assessment and evaluation are crucial cogs in the wheel of the education system and as such need to be reliable and fit for purpose. During his talk, Michael Carrier will introduce the changes in Cambridge English: First and Advanced exam, present the new system of reporting results among Cambridge English exams (Cambridge English Scale) as well as provide a detailed outlook at Cambridge English Qualifications for Teachers.

Michael Carrier is Director of Strategic Partnerships for Cambridge English, a division of University of Cambridge.

He has been involved in English language teaching for over 25 years as a teacher, trainer, author, school director, and network director. He has worked in Germany, Italy, Poland, the UK, and the USA, and has lectured in many other countries. He has an MA in Applied Linguistics and an MBA, and has worked in various senior management positions in language education. Most recently he was Director of English Language Innovation & Partnerships at the British Council in London.  His special field of interest is in e-learning and the application of technology to language teaching. He is the Editor of the Technology section of Modern English Teacher Journal, and was recently Associate Professor at New School University, New York. Michael Carrier is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Member of the Institute of Directors, and a Member of the Society of Authors, London.

Boost your vocabulary

This seminar looks at how to present, practice and revise vocabulary. It also focuses on the importance of recycling vocabulary. The session participants are going to be actively involved in analyzing and adapting the tasks. And of course, the session will  provide the teachers with a handful of fun practice and revision activities.

Lana Sushko, has been a teacher for over 22 years and a trainer for over 6 years. She has worked in Ukraine for IH Kiev and the British Council Kiev,  teaching adults, teenagers and children. She has also trained teachers and teacher trainers for the British Council in Kiev. Lana  founded  her own methodology school SOVa which holds interactive workshops and summer schools for teachers and administrators all around Ukraine.
