Number of Nobel Prize winners published by the Press rises to 64

The number of Nobel Prizes awarded to Press authors has risen again this year as William Nordhaus, co-author of Industrial Pricing in the United Kingdom, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics Sciences. Nordhaus shares the award with Paul Romer, another economics genius, for their contributions to economic modelling and climate change.

Former visiting fellow of Clare Hall in Cambridge, Nordhaus is a well-known American economist and professor of economics at Yale University (where he also studied achieving his MA). Nordhaus is the author or editor of over 20 books, including Press-published Industrial Pricing in the United Kingdom, which he co-authors with Kenneth Coutts and Wynne Godley. Industrial Pricing in the United Kingdom was published by the Press in May 1978, as part of a 'Department of Applied Economics Monographs' series.

The Prize award for Economic Sciences is also known as the The Sveriges Riksbank Prize commemorating the memory of Alfred Nobel. Submitted nominations go through a rigorous process taking up to seven months, resulting in the award. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences respectively recognises Nordhaus' efforts to develop 'an integrated assessment model', a quantitative model that describes the global correlation between the economy and the climate. The model takes theories and empirical results from physics, chemistry and economics – now widely spread, this model is used to portray how the economy and climate co-evolve.

The Press now publishes 64 Nobel Prize winners, in all categories. View the full list of winners at cambridge.org/awards.
