This is an excellent book for teaching an introductory course in linguistics. I teach a course called Introduction to Linguistics and I adopted this book. I have been using it as the student's course book for almost seven years. My students find it student-friendly. They enjoy using it.

The book is really useful, except for chapters 7 and 8. Chapter 7 is too brief and in chapter 8, the tree diagrams are out of date with 3 branches. And I expect for a more comprehensive introduction in chapter 1, containing the definition of language, characteristics of language, and what linguistics is.
