Unlock's Approach to Critical Thinking
Many Academic English courses approach critical thinking in a superficial way. Whilst “Think about and Discuss” sections usually involve critical thinking, such exercises on their own do not help learners develop their skills; nor do they provide scaffolded practice.
In Unlock, we have provided your learners with a set of building blocks that enables them to effectively develop their critical thinking skills, right from Level One.
The critical thinking sections in Unlock are based on Benjamin Bloom's classification of learning objectives (Bloom's Taxonomy). These sections allow your learners to develop the lower and higher order thinking skills that are essential for success in an academic context.
Directly linked to the writing or speaking task at the end of the unit, Unlock's critical thinking content sets your learners up to succeed.
