   <p id="placenote1575">If the intention is to name a land region (as seems likely), the name's placement in open water is untypical. Admittedly, it would not fit just inland from the shore below if the name of the people PONTICI is to be retained there. Moreover, since the region Pontus Polemoniacus does in fact extend to Trapezus (here placed above the open water), intermediate placement of the name (with much of the region below it, and the remainder above) can be seen as appropriate enough, albeit in open water.</p>
