Onward stretch: VIIII ( 9)Albe[- ? - ]+imillo Here the copyist's placement of the name, and of Gemenello VIIII preceding it (both sloping upwards, as would naturally be expected to allow for downward chicanes), is in fact further up than necessary - partly, no doubt, to ensure avoidance of the physical feature below. As a result, the next downward chicane must be unusually long, and in order to remain more or less vertical it must proceed down from the start of Maritima rather than from the end. The distance figure VIIII is deliberately placed under Maritima, and is arranged for the chicane to bisect it.
