Without doubt the second letter is "a". On Weber's 1976 photograph the first letter does indeed seem to be "T", but here it looks more like "V". Visible on the parchment itself (March 2003) are the lower part of a stroke sloping down, and then an entire stroke sloping up.

Onward stretch: X ( 10)Scarponna The chicane for the stretch goes "up" rather than "down," presumably to avoid a collision of the route linework here with the mountain range (#13) ahead.
