Embedded Courts recognized by the Asian Law and Society Association

The Asian Law and Society Association (ALSA) has named Embedded Courts: Judicial Decision-Making in China by Kwai Hang Ng and Xin He the winner of its 2018 Distinguished Book Award.

 Based on extensive fieldwork and in-depth interviews, the book offers a penetrating discussion of the operation of Chinese courts.

Opposing the Rule of Law: How Myanmar’s Courts Make Law and Order by Nick Cheesman also took home this prize in 2017.

The ALSA award committee also gave Honorary Mention to both Authoritarian Legality in China: Law, Workers, and the State by Mary E. Gallagher and Corporate Islam: Sharia and the Modern Workplace by Patricia Sloane-White.

All award winners will be invited to attend the association’s annual meeting on December 1^st at Bond University in Australia.
