Religious Studies notes with sadness the death of Stewart Sutherland, on 29 January 2018. Stewart served as Editor of Religious Studies from 1984 to 1990, as successor to Prof H. D. Lewis. Through his dedicated service of the journal, he helped to consolidate its reputation as an outstanding venue for research in the philosophy of religion. As well as developing his own important publications in the field, he was also heavily engaged at that time with university administration as Vice-Principal, and subsequently Principal, of King's College London. He will be much missed by his colleagues in the discipline and at Cambridge University Press.
