Background
Catatonia is a neuropsychiatric disorder characterised by psychomotor changes that can affect individuals across the lifespan. Although features of catatonia have been described in adults, the most common clinical symptoms among paediatric patients with catatonia are not well characterised.
AimsThe goal of this study was to characterise the symptoms of catatonia demonstrated by paediatric patients, and to explore demographic and diagnostic factors associated with greater catatonia severity.
MethodWe conducted a multicentre retrospective cohort study, from 1 January 2018 to 6 January 2023, of patients aged 18 and younger with a clinical diagnosis of catatonia and symptom assessment using the Bush Francis Catatonia Rating Scale (BFCRS).
ResultsA total of 143 patients met inclusion criteria. The median age was 15 (interquartile range: 13–16) years and 66 (46.2%) patients were female. Neurodevelopmental disabilities were present in 55 (38.5%) patients. Patients demonstrated a mean of 6.0 ± 2.1 signs of catatonia on the Bush Francis Catatonia Screening Item, with a mean BFCRS score of 15.0 ± 5.9. Among the 23 items of the BFCRS, six were present in >50% of patients (staring, mutism, immobility/stupor, withdrawal, posturing/catalepsy, rigidity), and four were present in <20% of cases (waxy flexibility, mitgehen, gegenhalten, grasp reflex). In an adjusted model, patients with neurodevelopmental disorders demonstrated greater BFCRS severity than those with other diagnoses.
ConclusionsCatatonia was diagnosed in a range of mental health conditions. Further research is needed to define optimal diagnostic criteria for catatonia in paediatric patients, and clarify the clinical course of the disorder.

Background
Early life maltreatment (ELM), borderline personality disorder (BPD), and major depressive disorder (MDD) have been associated with empathy deficits in different domains. Lack of maternal empathy has also been related to child behavioral problems. As ELM, BPD, and MDD often co-occur, we aimed to identify dissociable effects on empathy due to these three factors. In addition, we aimed to investigate their indirect effects via empathy on child psychopathology.
MethodsWe included 251 mothers with and without MDD (in remission), BPD and ELM and their children, aged 5–12. We used the Interpersonal Reactivity Index as a measure of empathy on four different dimensions (personal distress, empathic concern, perspective taking, and fantasy) and the Child Behavior Checklist as a measure of child psychopathology.
ResultsHaving included all three factors (ELM, MDD, BPD) in one analysis, we found elevated personal distress in MDD and BPD, and lower levels of perspective-taking in BPD, but no effects from ELM on any empathy subscales. Furthermore, we found indirect effects from maternal BPD and MDD on child psychopathology, via maternal personal distress.
ConclusionThe present study demonstrated the dissociable effects of maternal ELM, MDD, and BPD on empathy. Elevated personal distress in mothers with BPD and MDD may lead to higher levels of child psychopathology.

Summary
Introduction
The objective towards which we are working is the development of a French Recognition Grammar (FRG) capable of being automatized. Apart from the purely formal aspects (development of the model, logicomathematical definition of the operators, writing the rules), such an enterprise must necessarily have its basis in a linguistic theory; in this work the essential linguistic concepts are borrowed from A. Culioli (see Culioli (1971) and Culioli, Fuchs, and Pecheux (1970)). The aim of this paper is not to expound or justify the theory, but rather to show how, from this theoretical starting point, the linguistic phenomenon of aspect can be treated within the framework of an FRG.
We shall note very briefly that the chief characteristic of the theory we adopt is that it takes into account the whole dimension of ‘utterance’. Our basic assumption is that syntactic structures (to which may be added an interpretation of the lexical units by means of semantic features) cannot on their own satisfactorily account for a certain number of phenomena such as the different roles of determiners, the choice of the passive as opposed to the active, the use of auxiliaries, tenses, ‘presenters’, etc. Even less can this level of explanation account for the ties of affinity or the rules of exclusion which exist among these different phenomena. Worse still: certain phenomena which seem at first sight to belong to the realm of syntax (e.g. complex sentences, relative clauses) can be treated solely in terms of structural concepts (e.g. ‘embedding’) only if one takes certain theoretical decisions which are likely to conceal more problems than they elucidate.
