Since its introduction in Spain in 2004, Aedes albopictus has rapidly spread across the country. Its aggressive biting behaviour causes nuisance, limiting outdoor activities. Also, its role as a vector of several arboviruses implies a major public health risk, with several cases of autochthonous dengue having been reported nationwide over the past few years. Control strategies usually focus on interventions in breeding sites. As such, accurate knowledge of the main larval habitats becomes a major priority in infested areas. A detailed identification of breeding sites of Ae. albopictus was carried out in the outdoors of 60 residential properties during July–August 2022 in El Vedat de Torrent (Valencia, Eastern Spain), an area recently colonised by this species. A total of 1444 real and potential breeding sites were examined. The most abundant potential larval habitat were plant pot plates (6.48 units/house), although a low infestation level was found, both for larvae (2.06% positivity, x̄ = 30.5 larvae/container), and pupae (0.51%, x̄ = 2.5 pupae/container). A total of 7715 larvae and 205 pupae were found in a disused flooded water pool depuration system. Animal drinkers, buckets and irrigation water containers were found to be the most common positive containers. No statistical difference was observed among the different container materials. A general statistical increase of 1 larva per 11.7 ml of water in breeding sites was detected. Breeding sites of other species such as Culex pipiens (n = 2) and Culex modestus (n = 1) were also rarely found in this residential area. To our knowledge, this is the first aedic index study carried out in Europe, and it provides valuable information about the main domestic breeding habitats of Ae. albopictus, which can greatly improve control programmes.

Background
A significant proportion of people with clozapine-treated schizophrenia develop ‘checking’ compulsions, a phenomenon yet to be understood.
AimsTo use habit formation models developed in cognitive neuroscience to investigate the dynamic interplay between psychosis, clozapine dose and obsessive–compulsive symptoms (OCS).
MethodUsing the anonymised electronic records of a cohort of clozapine-treated patients, including longitudinal assessments of OCS and psychosis, we performed longitudinal multi-level mediation and multi-level moderation analyses to explore associations of psychosis with obsessiveness and excessive checking. Classic bivariate correlation tests were used to assess clozapine load and checking compulsions. The influence of specific genetic variants was tested in a subsample.
ResultsA total of 196 clozapine-treated individuals and 459 face-to-face assessments were included. We found significant OCS to be common (37.9%), with checking being the most prevalent symptom. In mediation models, psychosis severity mediated checking behaviour indirectly by inducing obsessions (r = 0.07, 95% CI 0.04–0.09; P < 0.001). No direct effect of psychosis on checking was identified (r = −0.28, 95% CI −0.09 to 0.03; P = 0.340). After psychosis remission (n = 65), checking compulsions correlated with both clozapine plasma levels (r = 0.35; P = 0.004) and dose (r = 0.38; P = 0.002). None of the glutamatergic and serotonergic genetic variants were found to moderate the effect of psychosis on obsession and compulsion (SLC6A4, SLC1A1 and HTR2C) survived the multiple comparisons correction.
ConclusionsWe elucidated different phases of the complex interplay of psychosis and compulsions, which may inform clinicians’ therapeutic decisions.

This review is concerned with the synthesis and physical-chemical characteristics of a specific type of modified clay material: Ti-PILCs. The two general synthetic procedures and the main problems associated with the scale-up synthesis of these pillared materials are discussed in detail. The general characteristics of Ti-PILCs in terms of basal spacing, pillar homogeneity, surface area, microporosity, mesoporosity, pore size and distribution, thermal resistance and acidity are discussed in depth. Likewise, the most important synthesis parameters that have a clear and marked influence on the final characteristics of the materials are summarized.

Iron-pillared clays (Fe-PILCs) were synthesized from hydrolyzed FeCl3 solutions added to NaOH solutions using different synthesis conditions. X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption-desorption, chemical analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermal analysis, temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia and temperature-programmed reduction were used to characterize the resulting Fe-pillared clays (Fe-PILCs). A higher degree of pillaring was obtained when the Fe content was adjusted to 60 mmoles of Fe/g of clay. It was observed that higher values of this ratio led to worse acidity and textural characteristics, a consequence of the probable formation of Fe oxides that could not only deposit on the surface but also block the pores formed during the pillaring process. Likewise, it was found that the amount of Fe that can be introduced depended on the OH/Fe ratios. Total surface and micropore area decreased and Fe content increased with increasing pillaring solution concentrations. Finally, all pillared samples prepared here were thermally stable at temperatures up to 400°C.

Background:
Large-sized clinical trials have failed to show an overall benefit of surgery over medical treatment in managing spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhages (ICH); less invasive techniques have shown to decrease brain injury caused by surgical manipulation in the standard open approach improving the clinical outcomes of patients. Thereby, we propose a low-cost 3D-printed endoport for a less invasive ICH evacuation. In this study, the authors compare the clinical outcomes of early surgical evacuation using a 3D-printed endoport vs. a standard open surgery (OS).
Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted comparing patients who underwent early evacuation of a deep hypertensive ICH through an endoport vs. OS at a single center from August 2017 to March 2019. Demographic, clinical, and radiologic data were reviewed. The primary outcomes were the 90-day post-stroke functional outcome and mortality.
Results:A total of 36 patients were included. The two cohorts (18 endoport; 18 OS) showed no statistically significant differences in demographic, clinical, and radiologic characteristics, including median admission hemorrhage volume, Glasgow Coma Scale, and ICH scores. At 90-day post-stroke, 44% of patients in the endoport group and 17% in the OS group had a favorable functional outcome (mRS 0–3) (p = 0.039); moreover, the endoport group showed lower mortality (33% vs. 72%, p = 0.019).
Conclusions:This study suggests that an endoport-assisted ICH evacuation may have better functional outcomes and lower mortality than OS. The proposed device could provide a safe, low-cost alternative for ICH’s surgical treatment. More rigorous research is hence needed to assess the potential benefits of this technique.

In this paper we show that the well-known Poincaré–Lyapunov non-degenerate analytic centre problem in the plane and its higher-dimensional version, expressed as the three-dimensional centre problem at the zero-Hopf singularity, have a lot of common properties. In both cases the existence of a neighbourhood of the singularity in the phase space completely foliated by periodic orbits (including equilibria) is characterized by the fact that the system is analytically completely integrable. Hence its Poincaré–Dulac normal form is analytically orbitally linearizable. There also exists an analytic Poincaré return map and, when the system is polynomial and parametrized by its coefficients, the set of systems with centres corresponds to an affine variety in the parameter space of coefficients. Some quadratic polynomial families are considered.

Vase-shaped microfossils (VSMs) occur in dolomitic extraclasts of indeterminate provenance within the basal diamictite of the Neoproterozoic Urucum Formation (Jacadigo Group) of west-central Brazil, having an age constrained between 889±44 Ma (K-Ar; basement rocks) and 587±7 Ma (40Ar/39Ar age of early metamorphic cryptomelane in overlying manganese ore). Early isopachous carbonate cement entombed these VSMs, preserving rare direct evidence of original wall composition that is carbonaceous (now kerogenous) in practically all specimens. Some tests are siliceous or composed of a quartz-kerogen mixture; secondary replacement explains some features of these tests, but original biomineralization seems more likely for others. This interpretation, coupled with test morphology, suggests affinity to arcellinid testate amoebae. Five VSM taxa are recognized in the deposit: Cycliocyrillium simplex Porter, Meisterfeld, and Knoll, 2003, and C. torquata Porter, Meisterfeld, and Knoll, 2003, originally described in the Chuar Group (USA), and three new monospecific genera—Palaeoamphora urucumense n. gen. n. sp., Limeta lageniformis n. gen. n. sp., and Taruma rata n. gen. n. sp. Most of the taxonomically important characteristics of these VSMs occur also in extant testate amoebae, but the combinations of some characters, such as organic-walled tests having exceptionally long necks that exhibit terminal apertures (L. lageniformis n. gen. n. sp.), are evidently novel additions to the known diversity of Neoproterozoic VSMs. Evidence of glacially influenced deposition in the conformably overlying Santa Cruz Formation may indicate that the Urucum Formation slightly preceded or was penecontemporaneous with a major Neoproterozoic glaciation, although the VSM-hosting extraclasts must be older, possibly rivaling the age of the testate amoebae of the Chichkan Formation (766±7 Ma) that are currently regarded as the oldest record of protists in the geological record.

Based on a combined three locus analysis two new genera, Charcotiana and Amundsenia, are proposed in the lichen family Teloschistaceae, subfamily Xanthorioideae. Charcotiana includes the new species C. antarctica, which is known only from continental Antarctica. The bipolar genus Amundsenia includes the new species A. austrocontinentalis, which is also known only from continental Antarctica, and the Arctic species Caloplaca approximata which is here combined into the new genus. The two new genera are phylogenetically distinct, but poor in morphological characters; the new species consist mainly of minute apothecia in cracks of rocks located in the climatically harshest regions of the Antarctic. They are somewhat similar to another continental Antarctic species, Austroplaca frigida, which is described as a new name based on the illegitimate name Caloplaca frigida Søchting. The distribution of the four species is mapped.

The annealing behavior of three HSLA steels is studied using the combined techniques of EBSD-KAM and Sub-grain Method. These techniques have been successfully used to assess the annealing behavior of AK, IF and other high strength steels. Stored energy maps in the hot band, cold rolled and after annealing are constructed and analyzed. The combined usage of the Sub-grain Method and EBSD-KAM techniques are employed to calculate and compare the evolution of the stored energy and recrystallization behaviour during the annealing of Ti-bearing, Nb-bearing, and V-bearing HSLA steels. Orientation dependent stored energy distribution maps at different annealing stages are constructed and analysed. The results show that the stored energy distribution through the thickness of the samples is not uniform and is independent of the steel composition. Similarly the recrystallization behaviour is strongly related to the initial microstructural condition and particularly to the grain boundary character distribution of the steels.
