Background and Objective:
The Residual Lesion Score is a novel tool for assessing the achievement of surgical objectives in congenital heart surgery based on widely available clinical and echocardiographic characteristics. This article describes the methodology used to develop the Residual Lesion Score from the previously developed Technical Performance Score for five common congenital cardiac procedures using the RAND Delphi methodology.
Methods:A panel of 11 experts from the field of paediatric and congenital cardiology and cardiac surgery, 2 co-chairs, and a consultant were assembled to review and comment on validity and feasibility of measuring the sub-components of intraoperative and discharge Residual Lesion Score for five congenital cardiac procedures. In the first email round, the panel reviewed and commented on the Residual Lesion Score and provided validity and feasibility scores for sub-components of each of the five procedures. In the second in-person round, email comments and scores were reviewed and the Residual Lesion Score revised. The modified Residual Lesion Score was scored independently by each panellist for validity and feasibility and used to develop the “final” Residual Lesion Score.
Results:The Residual Lesion Score sub-components with a median validity score of ≥7 and median feasibility score of ≥4 that were scored without disagreement and with low absolute deviation from the median were included in the “final” Residual Lesion Score.
Conclusion:Using the RAND Delphi methodology, we were able to develop Residual Lesion Score modules for five important congenital cardiac procedures for the Pediatric Heart Network’s Residual Lesion Score study.

Background:
While echocardiographic parameters are used to quantify ventricular function in infants with single ventricle physiology, there are few data comparing these to invasive measurements. This study correlates echocardiographic measures of diastolic function with ventricular end-diastolic pressure in infants with single ventricle physiology prior to superior cavopulmonary anastomosis.
Methods:Data from 173 patients enrolled in the Pediatric Heart Network Infant Single Ventricle enalapril trial were analysed. Those with mixed ventricular types (n = 17) and one outlier (end-diastolic pressure = 32 mmHg) were excluded from the analysis, leaving a total sample size of 155 patients. Echocardiographic measurements were correlated to end-diastolic pressure using Spearman’s test.
Results:Median age at echocardiogram was 4.6 (range 2.5–7.4) months. Median ventricular end-diastolic pressure was 7 (range 3–19) mmHg. Median time difference between the echocardiogram and catheterisation was 0 days (range −35 to 59 days). Examining the entire cohort of 155 patients, no echocardiographic diastolic function variable correlated with ventricular end-diastolic pressure. When the analysis was limited to the 86 patients who had similar sedation for both studies, the systolic:diastolic duration ratio had a significant but weak negative correlation with end-diastolic pressure (r = −0.3, p = 0.004). The remaining echocardiographic variables did not correlate with ventricular end-diastolic pressure.
Conclusion:In this cohort of infants with single ventricle physiology prior to superior cavopulmonary anastomosis, most conventional echocardiographic measures of diastolic function did not correlate with ventricular end-diastolic pressure at cardiac catheterisation. These limitations should be factored into the interpretation of quantitative echo data in this patient population.

A systematic approach was taken to identify methods to prevent post CMP corrosion of copper in 22nm interconnect structures. Line to line current leakage measurements (at various times post CMP) were used as a means to quantify the extent and time-dependence of copper corrosion. Interruption of the corrosion mechanism by the use of passivating agents in post-CMP clean chemistries is explored. A broad-based screening was conducted to identify aqueous formulations of passivating agents for protection of copper which do not have deleterious effects on line resistance and overall defectivity. A formulation was identified which was effective in preventing corrosion when applied during post CMP brush clean.

Summary
The traumatic exposure
The dramatic effect of the pictures notwithstanding, the physical and mental effects of being at “Ground Zero” were described by many “Ground Zero workers” as only able to be understood through direct experience of it. The site occupied 16 acres in lower Manhattan, with buildings grouped around a 5-acre central plaza. The site is bounded by Vesey Street on the north, Church Street on the east, Liberty Street on the south, and West Street on the west, about three blocks north of the New York Stock Exchange. The Twin Towers were 110 stories, 1353 feet (412 meters) tall. In total, there were about 10,000,000 square feet of rentable space. About 50,000 people occupied the buildings. There were 43,200 square feet (4020 square meters) – about an acre of rentable space – on each floor. The seven buildings were made up of 95% air by volume, and contained 15 million square feet of space. Commercially, the seven-story mall beneath the World Trade Center (WTC) was America's third most heavily trafficked mall (Tomasky, 2003). In the aftermath of 9/11, the site continues to be an object of much interest, discussion and meaning for droves of visitors.
Whatever else “Ground Zero” may have been, it was also the workplace for a large number of workers and volunteers. In addition to the firemen and policemen whose volunteer, rescue, and recovery efforts have been chronicled in the media, “Ground Zero” also provided employment for at least 50 other professions, as well as a host of volunteers.

Phase equilibria and dielectric properties were analyzed for selected compositions in both LaCa0.5Zr0.5O3–CaTiO3 (LCZ-CT) and LaCa0.5Zr0.5O3–SrTiO3 (LCZ–ST) systems using x-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The end-member LaCa0.5Zr0.5O3 does not occur as a single phase but rather as a mixture of a perovskite-type phase with approximate composition La0.94Ca0.53Zr0.53O3 plus a minor amount of La2O3. This perovskite phase exhibited a combination of 1:1 ordering of Ca and Zr on the B-sites and octahedral tilting. In the (1 – x)LCZ– xCT system, the compositions x = 1/3 and x = 1/2 yielded single phases with perovskite-like structures featuring similar 1:1 B-site ordering superimposed onto octahedral tilting. The x = 1/2 composition in the LCZ–ST system resides in a two-phase field and contains a major perovskite phase and La2O3; the B-cations in the perovskite phase remain disordered at all temperatures. The approximate boundaries of perovskite-like phase fields in the La2O3–ATiO3–CaZrO3 (A = Ca, Sr) systems were outlined, as well as a schematic diagram for perovskite B-cation ordering transitions in the LCZ–CT system. The dielectric properties of the compositions investigated were measured at microwave frequencies and were correlated with the observed structural behavior.

Synroc containing mixed fission products and four actinides (237Np, 239Pu, 241Am and 244Cm) was fabricated by hot pressing on a 75 g-scale in separate hot-cell and glove-box facilities. Samples were physically characterised by density, which ranged from 98.2 to 99.1% of theoretical, by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and by the cc-track etch technique to determine the distribution of actinide elements.
The chemical durability of specimens prepared from the hot-pressed Synroc was determined in 460 leach tests carried out under static conditions at 70°C. Release of 137Cs dominated the fission-product source term while 237Np was the most leachable actinide element. Short-term release is dominated by the initial spilce from Cs and other readily soluble species at grain boundaries and in non-equilibrium phases. Long-term release is probably controlled by matrix solubility. A phenomenological model is developed which accounts for both short- and long-term release.
