Abstract

This experiment’s aim is to investigate the impact that different wind speeds have on a wind turbine’s efficiency. This will be done by making observations on the maximum theoretical power capacity of the wind turbine, and the actual power that it generates. It was predicted that higher wind speeds would corroborate with lower efficiencies. A wind speed of 15.8 m/s had an efficiency of 3.22%, while a wind speed of 3.3 had an efficiency of 40.58%. However, it was concluded that there is a “sweet spot”, wherein the efficiency of the wind turbine is optimum. Any increase or decrease of wind speed in this region would cause the efficiency to reduce.
