| A: |
No. You can run the program off the disc without first installing it. But where possible, we recommend that you install the program. After you install it, you don't need to put the disc into your CD-ROM drive to use the program. Also, if you install the program, you can add new expressions, notes, and examples to "My Vocabulary Notebook."
For complete installation instructions, refer to the insert card in the plastic sleeve at the back of the Student's Book or see the readme file on the CD-ROM. |

| Q: |
What's an Audio CD/CD-ROM? |
| A: |
An Audio CD/CD-ROM works both as an Audio CD (like a music CD) and as a CD-ROM. As an Audio CD, the Touchstone Self-study Audio CD/CD-ROM plays in any Audio CD player, such as a home or car stereo system, a portable disc player, or a computer with a media player like the Windows Media Player and iTunes. The tracks on the Audio CD include the two parts of the conversation from the Conversation Strategy section of each unit.
As a CD-ROM, the Touchstone Self-study Audio CD/CD-ROM plays in a computer and provides extra listening and speaking activities and an interactive vocabulary notebook. |

I don't see the CD-ROM application when I insert the Audio CD/CD-ROM into my computer. What should I do? |
| A: |
On most Windows machines, when you insert the disc into the CD-ROM drive you will see a prompt with the question "What do you want Windows to do?" Select "Open folder to view files" to see CD-ROM content.
If you don't see this prompt, it may be necessary to locate the CD-ROM folder on your desktop. Follow these steps:
1. Click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
2. Right-click on the CD-ROM drive icon.
3. In the drop-down menu, click on "Explore."
On Macintosh computers, you will see two CD icons appear on your desktop. One icon is for the Audio CD part of the disc, and the other icon is for the CD-ROM portion. |

| Q: |
I can't save my notes and example sentences in My Vocabulary Notebook. What can I do? |
| A: |
There may be two reasons. First, you need to install the CD-ROM program on your computer in order to save new My Vocabulary Notebook entries as well as notes and example sentences to existing Notebook entries.
Second, some versions of the Touchstone Self-study Audio CD/CD-ROM have this editing feature disabled. To enable this feature, you will need to download some files. Click here for a menu of files to download. |

I have a Touchstone Level 1 Audio CD/CD-ROM, and I can't do speaking exercises on my Macintosh computer. What can I do? |
| A: |
One version of the Touchstone Level 1 Audio CD/CD-ROM cannot record your speaking responses if you don't have the proper level of privilege on a networked Macintosh computer. To enable the recording function without adjusting your level of privilege, you will need to download a file. Click here for a menu of files to download.
