The fourth edition of this classic writing skills book contains many new features and new readings, and it has been fully revised and updated. In this reading-based writing book, the author has selected six new high-interest pieces and retained six favorites from the third edition. The twelve readings appear in four thematic units: Language, Culture, Work, and Roots. The readings represent a wide variety of genres, with at least one academic reading per unit.

A Writer's Workbook takes advanced-level writing students systematically from reading to writing. Along the way, students read a high-interest text; study the structure of academic essays; grapple with troublesome areas of grammar and writing mechanics; read and analyze student model essays; and write, revise, and edit.
