In the Know teaches intermediate students and above the idioms they need to know in order to understand everyday idiomatic English. Based on corpus research, the book has forty units that present the most frequent and useful idioms, grouped either by context, concept, or key words.

Each set of related idioms is presented in a carefully constructed four-page unit. The opening page presents the idioms in context, and for additional clarity lists them with their definitions. The second and third pages of the unit contain one-page sections called respectively Focus on Meaning and Focus on Form. Here a number of fun and challenging tasks help students gain greater understanding of the meaning of the idioms and their formal aspects, such as how they are spelled, how they are pronounced, and what adverbs and prepositions they combine with. The final page of the unit, Focus on Use, has students gain insight into the register of the idioms before being asked to produce them in speaking and writing tasks.

To give the book even greater flexibility, one additional page per unit of supplementary activities has been provided on the Teacher Support Web site. These fun, lively, game-like tasks provide the ideal way to round out the teaching of the idioms and make them memorable.
