A special email from a student
| By Jon Horvitz
A few weeks ago, I received an email from a student who took a class that used this textbook.
She mentioned that she suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and that she was recently in a treatment center for several months to learn to overcome her obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. She asked that in a future edition of the textbook we include information on OCD – maybe in the section of the textbook that deals with anxiety disorders. This was a great suggestion — we’ll do it. She also said that she brought the textbook with her to the treatment center, and that in some strange way the book was a comfort to her. It was a comfort, she said, because it dealt with anxiety and other topics of relevance to her life, and also because she was taking time off from classes and missed learning. She asked me to pass on thanks to Barry Jacobs, the co-author of the textbook. I emailed back to let her know that her email meant the world to me, that we would add OCD to the next edition of the textbook, and that while Barry passed away a few years ago, I know it would have meant a lot to him too.
