Education in Emergencies

Humanitarian emergencies caused by armed conflicts, protracted crises and climate change are disrupting education systems worldwide. By developing a resilient education system, countries will not only help to ensure that children’s education is not disrupted by emergencies, but also improve learning outcomes during stable periods.

We are committed to helping governments, NGOs and development organisations ensure continued learning even in the most challenging circumstances, by offering support in two ways.

We will work in partnership with you to prepare for emergency situations by building a resilient education system that can manage change with minimal additional resources. This could involve developing curriculums, designing or adapting teaching and learning resources, developing tailor-made solutions to assess and evidence learning, and training teachers to teach effectively in times of crisis. If disaster strikes, we will also support you to respond quickly.

Working in partnership with UNICEF and Microsoft, we contributed to the development of the Learning Passport. This tool enables learners to continue their educational journey anywhere in the world, even if they are forced to migrate or are displaced.

Together, we will co-create resilient education systems that ensure continuous quality education for your learners and protect their future, even in times of crisis.
